Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Do they not worry that if they achieved the, let's say AAB needed, they'll be sitting with ABB, or BBB students?

I'm not really sure what they'd be worrying about? Would those students with AAA or A*AA be worried about sitting alongside those just with the AAB entry requirement?

88.5% for an A in OCR English 😭

I have just prepped some ice for a G and T....

The OCR Eng Lit grades are beyond extraordinary. Can't explain it.

Oh ollie,that's so sad.

ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 20:16

Piggy do OCR have to have the same percentage of A’s as AQA and Edexcel? Are they standardised across boards?

DD has absolutely no interest in going into college for her results. In fact, she sat bolt upright in her chair at our end of A level meal with a strange look on her face and said
"I've just realised - I never have to see those people ever again!" with a smile on her face.

She's been a bit jaded by having a group of friends whose main goal was to get by and to enjoy themselves and who didn't appreciate the amount of time she would spend working in college in her free periods rather than just hanging around.

I'm nervous for her for tomorrow.

Don't forget everyone that the alleged 48% who get the wrong grade in History or English includes those who get more than they deserve!!

Ollie just scrolled back to see your sad news. Hope you have a good day tomorrow Flowers

DD's course is showing (along with lots of others) on the Cambridge site as being in their adjustment. Just checking it out in the wild possibility that she pulls an AAA* out of the bag tomorrow.

zanda ,yes, more or less. The exam boards are all expected to have roughly the same proportions of awarded grades. Which is interesting given OCRs dominance in selective schools.

Dd was in a bog-standard comp. Great.

But sees many on his course who are 'seat-fillers'. And has had to be quite 'proactive' in group projects to have to chuck some of the assigned group under a bus to confirm who, in the group, has put in the effort, and who didn't bother;

@Miljah Did you mean to make your DS sound so unpleasant? Hmm.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 20:25

Presumably it means a lot of people got very high raw marks in the OCR English, resulting in very narrow bands?

Report
ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 20:26

DrMadeline how exciting!

Report
Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2019 20:28

Don't worry too much Zanda. I'll bet ,given that bizarre Hamlet question, the examiners marked very generously , hence the high boundaries.

My sons very mainstream science course is in clearing at a very, very good university for three grades below their standard minimum offer. It's insane. Can't work out why as it's definitely not in clearing everywhere and nowhere else has made such massive reductions.

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2019 20:40

Oh. Well, I am sure she did brilliantly. They are bonkers boundaries so there must be a reason.

Report
Decorhate · 14/08/2019 20:40

Are you able to say which uni it is Marine? I knew Southampton would accept AAA as they had said that on the open day but I’m surprised it has dropped so much. It’s No 5 in the country for that subject on most league tables so we’ll regarded.

I just hope ds doesn’t regret not putting it as his insurance (if he gets his insurance)

All this clearing is probably just a sign of the population dip?

My DS failed his driving test today. He was so frustrated and disappointed he cried, which made me cry. He says its a bad omen and that he will fail his exams. I am so stressed, emotional and tired with it all.

I stopped DS2 from booking his test for today for that very reason. I didn’t think he needed stress right before results day.

His is next week now!

Justasking - re med application and ucat - was it the situational judgement that went badly because some med schools don't look at that score at all?
Coleoptera - each uni has its own deadline and I think they write and tell you by when you need to pay up and confirm accomm contract. Durham are relaxed about this but sadly refused deferral for us.
I don't think you have any contact from insurance if you have met your firm.
Thanks for ocr boundaries link - has calmed my dd a bit. Has anyone got a link to the edexcel maths boundaries?
Adrenaline has virtually run out here after desperate dash to far away hospital after my dm was in an accident.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for this comforting thread. xx
