Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

what college mrsB??

ZandathePanda · 16/08/2019 21:38

There’s a fantastic Indian in York called the Cat’s Pyjamas. Recommend.

MrsBartlet · 16/08/2019 21:42

I was in Wentworth Piggy. We went to look at York with dd 5 years ago and I couldn't believe how much it had changed. I completely lost my bearings outside Wentworth as the surroundings were completely different and it had become a graduate college. I did spend a lot of time hanging out in Vanbrugh.

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 21:46

And I used to love Wentworth Bop. Lots of my friends were Wentworth. I do hear it has changed a lot!

errorofjudgement · 16/08/2019 21:47

@ifonly4 link to Edinburgh wrist band

MrsBartlet · 16/08/2019 21:51

@Piggywaspushed - good old Wenty bop! I am feeling very nostalgic now Smile

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 21:54

Me too, especially as I am currently watching old TOTP!

FrameyMcFrame · 16/08/2019 21:54

@piggy, Vanbrugh must be ok then! Smile

It seems like it's quite musical and arty... that's good for DD!

ifonly4 · 16/08/2019 21:58

error (waves) thank you. Not as bad as I thought. What's happening with your DD now?

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 21:59

Just found old thread :mrsB and I have conferred before!

Vanbrugh was always v English/music/archaeology types.

RedRec · 16/08/2019 22:07

I have just seen the York / Vanbrugh comments. My son is going there too. It was his first choice accommodation as he has a music background (music school) although will be studying Maths. There is quite an active Vanbrugh group chat going on - might be good for other Vanbrugh-ers to join if they are interested?

MrsBartlet · 16/08/2019 22:11

Have we Piggy? Just had a search and can't find anything. Have you had a name change?

RedRec - York has always been amazing for music. I know of someone who did maths and music combined and has gone on to have a great career in film music.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/08/2019 22:18

Its Vanbrugh for.my dd too.

RedRec · 16/08/2019 22:25

Thank you MrsBartlet. He loved York from the open day onwards and chose it because of the Maths course but also because of the great musical aspect (he won't be actively studying music but hopes to get involved in the extra curricular Early Music / Baroque/ choral side). He could not be happier with his choice and neither could I.

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 22:25

@MrsBartlet @Piggywaspushed I was York too, Wentworth! Next year it will be 30 years since I started there....what a small world! I studied History.

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 22:27

@Piggywaspushed it may have been me that chatted about York before - I knew there was someone else on here but couldn't remember who!

MrsBartlet · 16/08/2019 22:31

@GoldenRuby - I was history, too but I must have been a year ahead of you (1989-1992)

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 22:38

English 88 to91 !

Piggywaspushed · 16/08/2019 22:40

Not name changed, no. We chatted on a query about studying at York in Feb 18. Sad but true....

MrsBartlet · 16/08/2019 22:43

I have been on so many threads about my dd when she was applying I wasn't sure if it was from back then.

We all obviously crossed over with one another when we were at York. Small world indeed!

GoldenRuby · 16/08/2019 22:49

@MrsBartlet yes, you were one ahead of me. I'm getting all nostalgic now for good times studying medieval heresy with Prof/Dr Pete Biller.

Clankboing · 16/08/2019 22:53

scarecrowhead, yes we will be taking ds to Lancaster on the Sunday then, as he is in Furness. How about you? We did chat about going to the Premier inn the night before moving in but we are only 90 mins away, so decided not to.

Anasnake · 16/08/2019 23:01

@Clankboing we are Saturday as he is County. We're less than an hour away so not too bad. He's been looking online at fresher's groups and societies, think it's slowly hitting him. Just need to pay the accommodation deposit.

EllieFredrickson · 16/08/2019 23:03

I was York too! Derwent Economics (1990-1993). York was DD's insurance for Physics but she has her firm as she got what she needed. Campus was so different to when I was there when we went to open day - especially as Derwent now includes Langwith (which was moved to the new site). Having said that we did get shown accommodation in my old Derwent block!

olliepolly · 16/08/2019 23:12

LIZS and ifonly4 , I suppose I’m biased as am an Edi graduate and DD1 is there. It is a wonderful city to be a student in. Don’t worry re catered halls pollock is a great starting point for uni career and catered is good for making friends. Many buildings within the pollock site my dd was in grant which is known as a friendly place . Her room on the top floor was lucky to have a view of Arthurs seat. Don’t know what subjects your dd are doing but pollock is pretty well located for KB the science site and George sq. Hope they will soon start really looking forward to Edinburgh.
