Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Congrats to those whose DCs are happy with their outcomes, however they got them! Commiserations to those with a more mixed bag. Uncertainty still looms chez getting as DC missed two grades for his firm, but in his best subjects, and amazed everyone by an A in his worst. Only 0.6 and 2 marks off required grades - so I’ve written the cheque and gone for review of marking, as his firm is keeping the place open. Trying to big up his insurance (Edinburgh) but he was more invested in his firm than I had realised. I really feel for them having to make these difficult phone calls when they’re still so young 😟. Piggy may remember he was extremely lucky with remarks at GCSE two years ago - here’s hoping the gods shine on him again...

@Itscoldouthere UEA will start making accommodation offers from 19th August to the student getting confirmed places as of today. Not long to wait. My DS is going to UEA, has had his results for a bit so knows his accommodation already (in the Village).

Entschuldigung · 15/08/2019 13:15

@Benjispruce Good luck to your DD although she's done fabulously well already! That's useful to know you had to find out from school about the other subjects. I wonder if anyone's still at his school now. I don't suppose I could find out for him.

TravellingSpoon · 15/08/2019 13:16

Anyone know anything about clearing. DS has declined his firm offer place and has a clearing place at another uni. He now needs to apply for that but we can't see an option. Will it be available at 3pm or are we missing something?

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 13:20

OMG. I kept telling him ‘just call them’ and DS was all ‘but I don’t know yet, what if they make me decide immediately?’, and I was ‘just speak to them first and have a chat’

Finally (just now) he pops upstairs to call. 5 mins later he comes down - bath offered him a place for maths! Now he just has to decide

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 13:22

@uzfrdiop I didn’t mean it was second rate. I was at pains to point out to my son that logically there is probably not much difference. He wasn’t in a logical place after his results so continuing to pull that lever wasn’t getting anywhere

Itscoldouthere · 15/08/2019 13:23

@GoldenRuby thank you for the UEA information, that’s really useful.
I’m trying to be positive and move on but DH is being very grumpy. The main issue we have is DS is a gamer and it has for sure had an impact, makes us very worried as to how he will choose to prioritise his time once at uni and away from me, moaning at him and telling him to get off the bloody computer !
Does anyone else have this issue?

ZandathePanda · 15/08/2019 13:25

MrKlaw well done to your Ds! It does make me laugh that dc can get those grades yet don’t want to make a phone call.

marine04 · 15/08/2019 13:28

Just had a call from school to say that DS is only a couple of marks away from the next grade up in biology so they are requesting his script. Whilst it won't change his destination it is his degree subject so I think he would feel happier with a higher grade.
Nice to get a little bit of semi positive news.

Mustbetimeforachange · 15/08/2019 13:29

itscoldoutthere yes, it terrifies me. He watches other people gaming half the night & can't get up. I'm sure it had an impact on his results. Goodness knows what he will do when left to his own devices.

ProlificLurker · 15/08/2019 13:29

Itscoldouthere yes very much a gamer here.

Rivkka · 15/08/2019 13:31

@TravellingSpoon has he had his place confirmed through clearing?

LIZS · 15/08/2019 13:34

Another narrow miss on firm awaiting remarks here, although a bit of a long shot tbh. Will insurance just assume it is accepted and process accommodation etc?

Fibbsdottir · 15/08/2019 13:38

How did he get through??

Fibbsdottir · 15/08/2019 13:39

@mrklaw

Fibbsdottir · 15/08/2019 13:43

Actually dd1 is totally over Bath and looking forward to her insurance. Its cheaper, top 15 for her subject and looks fun.

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 13:44

Just discovered DS was only 5 marks away from C in Spanish having outright failed paper 2 , the one I offered to help with, don't believe the teacher revised with them and for which he had several study guides. Grrr. Pondering remark.

SweetJasmine17 · 15/08/2019 13:46

@Itscoldouthere

My brother was a gamer and he ended up dropping out of uni, I think because he wasn't keen on the course and uni so he'd rather play games. From experience they can be very addictive and the whole day can go by without realising

TravellingSpoon · 15/08/2019 13:49

@rivkka, yes he got a place this morning and has an email offer.

Itscoldouthere · 15/08/2019 13:53

@ProlificLurker @Mustbetimeforachange well I’m pleased I’m not the only one, but it’s such a worry.
I had chilled a bit about it as DS has been at home all year (he was resisting) and gaming with his friends in the evening has been his main social outlet.
But getting such a small improvement in his resits has really shaken us, his tutor thought he’d get an A and B so 2 Cs really aren’t great and the only other thing in his life has been gaming, so it must have contributed.
God knows what he will be like when left on his own.

Itscoldouthere · 15/08/2019 13:56

That should say re-sitting but hey resisting works 🤣

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 14:04

@Fibbsdottir no idea - I sent him the link to the bath clearing search page and the phone number was on there

Shimy · 15/08/2019 14:04

@MrKlaw 😂 I can feel your frustration. That sounds like a very good offer from a terrific place.

Shimy · 15/08/2019 14:08

@Piggywaspushed No harm trying otherwise it I’ll forever play on your mind....what if?

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 14:11

@Shimy honestly it’s just trying to decode these blooming teenagers! Poked a bit more and he admitted the indecision wasn’t about Southampton/bath - it was all about not getting Warwick.

He’s a quiet one and i’m Not the best at picking up on cues so took a while to get there..
