Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Thanks howwudufeel. That’s very kind. I’m very proud of her. I think she’s unlucky. Maybe a rethink needed - possible apprenticeships.

ZandathePanda · 15/08/2019 09:12

Piggy Dd got her A* in English!!!!!! Full marks on Richard iii. Got 97.5% overall. Very proud.

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 09:14

Oh just seen your message. Thank you @NewModelArmyMayhem18 Very wise advice.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 15/08/2019 09:14

Wow Zanda that’s brilliant ( English teacher here!)

DS isn’t interested in looking at his marks breakdown ( shame!)

Rivkka · 15/08/2019 09:15

Dunlurking definitely tell her to get on the phone ASAP to her first choice, good luck to her.

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 09:17

Rivkka that was her first instinct but I didn’t think she had any chance and convinced her to talk to the teaching staff first. She’s in there now. I’m in the car.

glitterbiscuits · 15/08/2019 09:19

Good results here.
A* A A

I wanted DS to apply for Oxbridge but he didn't.
He is undecided if he wants to go through adjustment.

Ho hum

Lililili · 15/08/2019 09:19

DD got 3A*s and is so relieved! She got a C in one History paper, which she had been really worried about, but everything else brought it up.

bizzey · 15/08/2019 09:22

Wow what a rollercoster this has been for some of you .
Congratulations to those that are happy and safe .

Zander wow !!.

I am still waiting ..

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 09:22

What a relief zanda !

bizzey · 15/08/2019 09:22

Sorry Zanda

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 09:24

jellybean , same : no mark breakdowns, no unit marks. Ridiculous.

DS did as badly as expected. Everyone is in different rooms now sulking/ fuming/ weeping (last one is me, not DS, obviously). I am so frustrated.

ZandathePanda · 15/08/2019 09:26

La Belle thank you. She got a high A* in history too but a bizarre 2 marks off an A in Politics. Her ‘best’ paper actually got really low marks.
Edexcel Politics was very odd. People who were expected Ds got As and vice versa.

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 09:28

Oh no. Commiserations Piggy.
It takes the shine off the earlier success.

What now?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 15/08/2019 09:30

Dd is 2, 3 or 4 marks off an A in a lot of her different papers. Not sure whether to chase anything there when all her results in mocks etc were higher.
But she's got her first choice so not much point I suppose.

Difficult dealing with their disappointment when they have worked so hard!

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 09:30

God knows. I mean he has the UC. But , really, even I would say that uni isn't really the place for someone with his grades.

I do partly blame the school for this (especially Spanish), but most of it is down to him and he won't change his work ethic any time soon.

MillicentMartha · 15/08/2019 09:32

Dunlurking, hopefully school will encourage her to ring her first choice with her marks. She’s only just missed it.

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 09:32

Do you think he might benefit from a gap year Piggy?
I feel your frustration.

jellybeanteaparty · 15/08/2019 09:33

Sorry to hear that Piggy and so hard if you don't have the detail of how close to boundaries they are. Will school be of any use? ( Presume different school from yours?)

ZandathePanda · 15/08/2019 09:33

Piggy sorry to hear about your Ds. Is it worth pushing for breakdowns? Dds school is really good at giving breakdowns with the number of each paper. They have a specific remark station with forms ready.

marine04 · 15/08/2019 09:34

DS has missed Warwick. Did well in one subject but fairly disastrously in the two sciences. He's off to his insurance university of Kent. Tbh I think he's really lucky they've taken him.
No information with the grades so no idea how close he was to boundaries. A lot of his friends have done much worse in the sciences than predicted/expected so I can't help feeling that there is a school/teaching element at play here too.

scarecrowhead · 15/08/2019 09:35

It's a horrible time, I missed Cambridge by a grade and was gutted. Ended up going to another RG and had a great time but it's such an awful feeling.

Piggywaspushed · 15/08/2019 09:35

I suspect he is nowhere near higher grades. The senior teacher took him aside an said he was near the next grade up in politics, but that's the one subject I have an overall mark for and he was nowhere near it, so I have no idea what she is talking about.

Shimy · 15/08/2019 09:38

Piggy So sorry about the news. Would he consider retaking? That’s was my backup plan, what about a integrated Foundation degree? I don’t know what his grades were but that could be an option. I also considered a Btec for DS because some students just don’t get A’levels and then fly with Btec.

slalomsuki · 15/08/2019 09:42

Missed a grade here and was rejected by 1st choice and offered insurance which is a great university but not the one DS has set his heart on.

We had a family disaster during the exams and the school said they had applied for special consideration for DS but it's only showing up on one of his results as having been taken in to account. I have queried this with the school for an explanation but I'm not sure it would make any difference overall.
