Following on from our previous thread.

Good luck to all DC awaiting results and university places.

School question: Is it only the SLT and the Exams Officer(s) who get to see the results today?

Interestingly DS didn't have to wait long for his initial Durham offer (less than a month I believe, if memory serves me correctly).

Well done to everyone making the grades (or exceeding them) for their first choices!

Is there any risk in applying speculatively through clearing? Seems like they recommend you don’t ask to be released from an offer until you receive a formal acceptance so you can sit on your insurance and try and improve on it?

I guess accommodation would be a risk

Shimy · 15/08/2019 08:26

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 So sorry to hear DS didn’t get his first choice but UEA is also good university as well, congratulations for that.

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 08:30

It seems silly to be disappointed in bit getting a first choice when even the insurance is a top 20 uni in that subject, but can’t help feeling DS looks a little deflated

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/08/2019 08:32

@Shimy it's not quite what I initially reported. It looks as if Durham haven't actually made up their mind about DS yet. The message update from UEA is dated 10.08.2019 and suggests his place there is assured if he doesn't get into Durham. So we have a wait on our hands.

Had to phone him en route to school to tell him the real lay of the land!!! Have advised him to talk to his teachers but that he may need to phone Durham this morning.

I think he's quite philosophical and didn't seem upset at all when he went off to school, so I guess we have a win: win situation, whether he does get Durham or UEA.

Did someone on here say that Track won't update again until after midday?

madeline, I went to York. Loved it.

BillieEilish · 15/08/2019 08:40

MrKlaw, your DS will LOVE Southampton and it is a great/top university and first choice for most. It never held me back, stay in Connaught Hall!

Congratulations everyone! Flowers

ZaZathecat · 15/08/2019 08:42

Has UCAS track updated for anyone yet? I was expecting it to update at 8.30, but no change here...

Shimy · 15/08/2019 08:42

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 😂 it’s not over till it’s over!

TapasForTwo · 15/08/2019 08:42

"Was predicted AABA. Got A* BAB and devastated."

When she has had time to digest this I hope she realises that they are fantastic results. An A*!

sluj · 15/08/2019 08:42

Yes, UEA is fabulous! DS got his confirmed 1st choice place this morning. Anyone else?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/08/2019 08:45

@MrKlaw I was under the impression that universities aren't supposed to consider young people for clearing places until they have a specific Clearing number (which they can't get until they are officially in it). Does that make sense?

So you might find that some of the lower ranking, less popular universities will give offers (without Clearing number) but the higher placed ones (for whom there will be more demand for places) won't.

DS got BBC from predicted BCC so he is happy. Couldn't switch to the degree he wanted to at NTU so he had now had a clearing offer for Derby Uni which he is happy with.

Well done to everyone for the results they have whether they are totally happy with them or not.

MrKlaw · 15/08/2019 08:50

I was thinking adjustment but apparently that’s only if you got a better result than your firm? Not if you improves in your insurance? That seems a bit harsh - if you deliberately chose insurance with a reasonable grade gap as a safety net then why not give you the opportunity to improve on that?

Empra123 · 15/08/2019 08:52

We're in! Exeter here she comes!

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 08:55

Dd devastated. Missed her firm by 1 grade - getting BBC and insurance was a higher offer - don’t ask :-( so they haven’t taken her. Obviously. Yet her course is in clearing, asking for a higher grade than the prospectus original offer. Are they trawling for adjustment students and being mean to those who had an offer? I thought this was the year you could get in with a dropped grade? I’m so upset for her. All her friends have got in. She worked so hard but has had to fight with her slow processing speed and working memory. Her Bs were good Bs as well - Maths was 4 marks off an A. Have persuaded her to d/w school staff. She was all for ringing the uni to ask for them to reconsider. She always said she didn’t want to go anywhere else - it was there or nothing.

errorofjudgement · 15/08/2019 08:57

Mixed report here, DD 2 marks off an A in EngLit so will be talking to the school about remarking.
It’s taken the shine off the other 2 where she did get her predicted grades

Still very proud of her and she’s worked sooo hard.
Congratulations everyone on getting the grades/uni places. I think they’ve all done so brilliantly ⭐️

Lepetitpiggy · 15/08/2019 08:57

Empra my DS is just about to start his second year at Exeter and loves it

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/08/2019 08:59

Oh @Dunlurking so sorry to hear that for your DD. Yes, wise to advise her to talk to school staff as they have the experience and insights. This is what I've advised DS to do.

DS's school message to the students was (bottom line) that every cloud has a silver linging, so very much hoping this will be the case for your DD. Not easy for them to see that though when all around them friends have their places confirmed.

4 marks off an A with slow processing and working memory is staggering good!

Dunlurking · 15/08/2019 09:04

Should have said - congratulations to those with good news. So lovely to hear of it. And good luck to those looking at clearing like us.

JanetheObscure · 15/08/2019 09:05

My DD has just thrown a curveball, but a good one ... Got into her first choice (hooray) and then revealed that she's been harbouring doubts about it for a while without telling anyone(huh?). Also had an unconditional acceptance from her insurance, but instead got on the phone to Sheffield and has accepted a place for the same course.

So - an unexpected morning Smile, but great celebrations now as I do think Sheffield will probably suit her better than her first choice. Here sister went there and loved it. So we're all very happy.

jellybeanteaparty · 15/08/2019 09:06

Did all your children get a breakdown of marks? My DC just got a sheet with the grades so it's hard to see how near he was to grade boundaries. Good news they have got their firm choice of uni.

PhannyMcNee · 15/08/2019 09:08

DC1 got AAD, needed BBB but has got her place at first choice on course she wanted. Very happy house here.

Sorry to read of the disappointments, it is a brutal process which hasn’t changed in the 30 years since I went through it.

Ragwort · 15/08/2019 09:10

DS into NTU, so relieved, no idea what his grades are, he’s just off to school now but not exactly hurrying ....!
