I had that chat with the principal once, apparently they make sure they are stocked up with food the day before so they don’t bump into any students in Tescos! Once they leave school today they batten down the hatches and go home!

bizzey · 14/08/2019 10:31

Ifonly4 glad the car situation is "better" ...till you get the bill !
Do the CIE boundries match with other boards ?

AWanderingMinstrel · 14/08/2019 10:39

Delurking... Was feeling fine all summer but last 24 hours am beginning to feel a bit sick. Third time through for me- you would think I would have become a bit more blasé about it by now. Just want results so we can celebrate or deal with fall out- anything better than this limbo!

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 10:53

Ifonly4 I hope your dd’s not too worried by the CIE grade boundaries. Good luck to her. My dd also doing Geography but a Welsh board (we’re not in Wales). Some of the coursebooks are only being released THIS summer! bizzey one of dd’s friends is the daughter of the school’s exam officer so apparently she has to go and stay somewhere else tonight after sorting out the results so that they’re not in communication.

BettyPitts · 14/08/2019 10:55

Someone posted in the What I Wish I Knew About University Facebook page that Sheffield are offering scholarships for some clearing places.

Definitely worth looking, I think it was in engineering.

ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 11:13

A school I knew used to ask selected pupils to come in early for the ‘jumping in the air’ shot. If you got the call you knew you were in.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/08/2019 11:21

@ZandathePanda that's really not on, is it? Thankfully, despite being a very high achieving school, DS's doesn't enter into that type of malarkey at all. They don't even report their successes to the local paper on the day.

Despite not getting back from holidays till after 2am, Ds has been up relatively early - he must be more concerned than outward appearances would suggest!

ifonly4 · 14/08/2019 11:28

Bizzey it depends on the options they've sat and I've only looked at geography boundaries, but 67% is required for an A*(161 marks), A (143 marks).

Dunlurking DD is ok about grade boundaries. She thinks she picked up about approx 160 marks, so a high A. She's needs an A so hopefully can afford to miscalculate.

Potentially in for a massive car bill, one part is £250, if the second is needed it's £600! So much for buying a newer car, it's only five years old.

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 11:30

*@ZandathePanda our school does that. Used to be the top scoring pupils only but now they also ask a few who have made good offers even if they’re not in the all As/Oxbridge/Medicine elite. I’ve never had a problem with them doing it, knowing mine were never going to be one of them.

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 11:33

Good luck for the car bill, and your dd’s Geography A ifonly4

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 11:41

www.sheffield.ac.uk/clearing/scholarships

Laniakea · 14/08/2019 11:43

found the ocr boundaries biol (A) & physics (B) pretty much the same - a mark lower for biol & higher for physics for A & B (that's a shock for physics feedback was paper 1 particularly was awful). Chemistry (A) is a lot lower this year - down from 205 & 169/270 to 196 & 161.

(assuming that they are legit etc)

ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 11:55

Dunlurking Grin
NewModel I think how much publicity schools want is related to how much they need. Dd’s school is going down the league tables and there’s no Oxbridge candidates this year so they’ll definitely be wanting the leaping photos for the high graded students. There’s a very highly marketed academy about 30 mins away which has done a great job of creaming the more academic year pupils and this has started showing dividends the last few years for them.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 12:01

I've just looked & DS's firm choice is no longer in clearing (it was at the beginning of the week). His insurance & 2 of the other places he originally had offers from are there.

Lililili · 14/08/2019 12:07

A 4 hour time difference where we are now so am wondering whether we should get up at 4am!!

LIZS · 14/08/2019 12:12

Had hoped to have a day out as distraction but teeming rain put paid to that. Not telling dd grade boundaries for German are raised, she was hopeful of pulling off a good grade in it.

Arewedone · 14/08/2019 12:14

Good luck everyone, we are anxiously awaiting to see what happens with edexcel maths here!
This feels like forever now ‘

ProlificLurker · 14/08/2019 12:28

DS’s exact course with a very niche optional extra is still in clearing. Currently veering between “oh good, they’ll want to keep the ones they’ve got then” and “oh crap, is it because the applicants weren’t good enough?” I think I need to step away from the internet.

Have found the OCR and Edexcel alleged grade boundaries, but I’m not showing them to DS. Not seen anything AQA yet.

Good luck to everyone and your DDs/DSs - both for tomorrow’s results and today’s tension.

oneteen · 14/08/2019 12:29

Good luck to all your DC for tomorrow Star

ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 12:47

Shock I hope those OCR English Lit boundaries are fake Shock

justasking111 · 14/08/2019 12:53

Friends DD has had a setback applied for medicine predicted grades outstanding, but despite studying hard for the UCAT she seems to have done badly in the psychometric testing. She is now at a loss as where to go next.

HostessTrolley · 14/08/2019 12:56

Is she planning to sit the BMAT?

Piggywaspushed · 14/08/2019 13:10

zanda, I do have access to the real grade boundaries for OCR . I shan't post a link because I am not sure of the ethics of that. Even though the boundaries are accessible to anyone with a password. They are probably the ones you wish weren't real.
