DS who is waiting on Edexcel results for two of his exams (maths and further maths) is unconvincing those leaked ones are genuine. He said something about a bitcoin donation link on each page. He is a cyber security high flier so I am inclined to go with his doubt. I suppose we will know for sure tomorrow anyway!

Wiifitmama · 14/08/2019 08:40

He also reminded me that grade boundaries can only go up by a maximum of 5% from last year. This is relevant for maths but not further maths as it is the first year for his exam.

FrameyMcFrame · 14/08/2019 08:41

From what I've read on Twitter predictions are that they won't be as high as that v high year so fingers crossed

It's very relevant to DD who is borderline on almost ALL of her essays 😩

Laniakea · 14/08/2019 08:41

Really hard to sleep last night. Dd’s working 5-11pm shifts this week then coming home & is on minecraft most of the night. It’s a distraction I guess.

All her exams were OCR & I haven’t seen anything about boundaries yet - consensus at the time seemed to be biology was pretty much as expected (but narrow list of topics examined), chemistry was harder than usual, & physics B was a mixture - one nightmarish paper one easier than expected & one standard. It’s got the potential to be bad.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 08:44

Someone's gone to an awful lot of trouble if they aren't genuine. I presume the bitcoin link is so that the leaker can make some money out of it.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 14/08/2019 08:46

Are the grade boundaries really different for the different exam boards?

Wiifitmama · 14/08/2019 08:50

Mustbetineforchange - my son’s exact response to your question was “Because they can” Smile And I have to agree with him. I am not saying that they are faked/altered but I do agree there are plenty of kids out there who can hack this stuff and would do so just to show they can.

JanetheObscure · 14/08/2019 08:51

This is the first time that I've felt nervous! I'm having sudden flashbacks to my own A level results day, when they arrived by post on a Friday (I think). We returned from our family holiday on that very day and got stuck in the most almighty traffic jam on the M5, which somewhat raised the tension!

MrKlaw · 14/08/2019 08:54

You know, we could try and have one last calm day rather than fret over if and buts on grade boundaries considering we don’t know the actual results yet..

JanetheObscure · 14/08/2019 08:57

We could, couldn't we Smile?

Danglingmod · 14/08/2019 09:09

Good plan...

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 09:16

Or we could vent here instead of bugging our offspring!

LaBelleSauvage123 · 14/08/2019 09:20

Exactly!

FrameyMcFrame · 14/08/2019 09:30

Yesss.... I'm afraid I can't help stressing Confused

From what I can gather on reddit and Twitter EdExell English lit grade boundaries are lower than last year.

It's just gossip so far

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 09:36

Framey the Edexcel grade boundaries have been leaked (if genuine)

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 09:59

We’ve found the Edexcel chart. I see what you guys mean about the bitcoin donation. It does look convincing otherwise though. Dd still worried that the grade boundaries haven’t dropped from last year’s as much as she hoped. 44% for a B (134/300), last year’s was about 50% she says. She needs a B. So hoping this is fake actually!

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 09:59

Talking about Maths BTW.

TapasForTwo · 14/08/2019 10:00

I'm struggling to understand why a tampon is considered misogynistic. Girls have periods, boys don't. It's just a biological difference.

Although I do think it is a rubbish "gift". I agree that a USB stick would be far more practical - and won't go into landfill.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 10:02

Although on the plus side, considering the paper leaks, at least the Maths Edexcel boundaries have gone down, not up!

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/08/2019 10:06

Maths would be expected to go down because of the new exams.

Dunlurking · 14/08/2019 10:11

Mustbetime there was a cohort did the exam last year after one year of teaching - certain schools taught it and examined it in one year to their FM pupils and covered the FM syllabus this year. I kept telling dd the grade boundaries should go down if last year’s examinees were all FM candidates - i.e super Maths clever cohort, but she didn’t believe me, especially in view of the widespread leak of this year’s papers.

ZandathePanda · 14/08/2019 10:14

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

....and relax

ifonly4 · 14/08/2019 10:24

Dunlurking, grade boundaries for CIE were out yesterday. Annoyingly some schools have given students their centre number and password, so they know their results. DD has been in touch with her school, but they won't allow access to the CIE site. Geography grade boundaries are down from last year, which is what she's interested in.

DD keeping busy, yesterday went for coffee with friends, then back to one of their houses and a late night walk up nearby hill with the same group. They might meet today.

DD's school are releasing results at 6.30am tomorrow, with school opening at 7.30am. It'll probably be a 90 min journey at that time. Our car still in for repair, but luckily garage are letting us have a courtesy car today!

bizzey · 14/08/2019 10:27

Idley musing and wasting time with silly thinking!!

But schools have the results today.
Imagine if the headteacher was a parent/aunt/uncle any relative...or in fact just friend of the family.

They would have to keep quiet over the results.
Would be hard if you knew that student was going to get really bad results tomorrow!

Gettingthroughtheweek · 14/08/2019 10:28

I really hope the edexcel boundaries aren’t genuine, as the marks needed for an A at German have actually gone up according to this ...I was hoping they might have gone down, to try and remedy the falling takeup and level the playing field between native and non native speakers. Even language tutors at universities are begging the boards to make the exams easier so they actually have some applicants ..... If only DS had gone for another subject .....
