Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

After that maths fun yesterday, DS has Geography and Biology today. Thank heavens for the weekend 😀

Laniakea · 06/06/2019 09:31

Sluj which biology has he got? Dd is doing OCR A - she was up ‘til god knows what time going over glucose metabolism, all the respiration reactions & the ornithine cycle (the stuff school didn’t get to ... yes I’m bitter!). She was really stressed about it.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/06/2019 10:02

slalomsuki DS has the same combo of exams today too, although he is looking at doing Geography at university. I've advised DS to take this evening off from revision tonight. A week today he will finish - he's counting down the days.

It really annoys me how they are all so crammed together. It becomes more of an endurance test than testing how good you are at a subject. Dd has had the majority of her exams over 4 days and is going in today absolutely exhausted.

Gettingthroughtheweek · 06/06/2019 10:32

Sorry to hear about the maths yesterday. If it’s any confort German Listening AQA was also apparently dire with even native speakers unable to do it and much harder than previous ones. Not helped by noisy building works right outside the room DS took it in .. You would have thought language A level boards might be trying to make their exams a bit more accessible and cater for all abilities; no wonder entries keep going down when students with As and A star in other subjects find they just can’t hope for similar grades in languages. Let’s hope next week’s paper is a little more user friendly. And good luck to everyone with horrible workload - it does seem unfair when some have them so close together and others are nicely spread out.

ifonly4 · 06/06/2019 11:35

Good luck to your DC sluj and NewModel. DD also has geography today, CIE. It hasn't gone ok so far, but not great, so really hope for a good paper. She wants to study sustainable development at uni, so geography is the nearest subject to that.

Shimy · 06/06/2019 12:13

Good luck to all those doing geography & Biology today. Hope feedback is uplifting.

juicy0 · 06/06/2019 14:05

Same exams as my DD sluj. Hoping for good news as chemistry wasn't great on Tuesday.

juicy0 · 06/06/2019 14:06

You and me both shimy! Could do with a positive response today to keep her spirits up. Two weeks to go and counting!

LIZS · 06/06/2019 14:26

Dd did aqa Biology today, lots did not finish (she was mid word) and there was quite a lot of maths/physics content involved with graphs .

Mustbetimeforachange · 06/06/2019 15:15

Edexcel further maths "urgh" today, apparently :(

Citygirl2019 · 06/06/2019 15:18

Been lurking and posted once before. My DS has geography today, it's his final exam.

He has sat English Literature, Economics and Geography. He was disappointed when he got his timetable s they have been close together and literally over two weeks (week before and after half term).

He has remained focused and worked so hard I do hope it's reflected in his grades.

Good luck to all the DC and their parents. I have to admit I'm relieved it's over for us today. It's felt a real slog.

ifonly4 · 06/06/2019 15:31

Hope the biology and geography exams have gone ok. DD just finished fourth CIE exam in geography, sounds like it went fairly well and she seems a bit more positive.

juicy0 - how geography go for your DD? I remember ours are doing the same board.

Laniakea · 06/06/2019 15:41

Dd was reasonably happy about the biology today, she’s over half way now & has four days before the next one. Two weeks, then she’ll be done.

She’s got a job interview next week too!

bizzey · 06/06/2019 15:49

Waiting for ds to come home.
First time i have seen him "twitchy "
This geography paper is not his strongest.
Could be though that the human geography teacher is not the best.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 15:51

Re EDEXEL maths.. i am on the gcse thread as well ...lots saying hard and wtf !

ifonly4 · 06/06/2019 15:57

Lanikea, glad it's gone okay for her.

bizzey DD has had a change in her human geography teacher and doesn't think much of him, her previous one was brilliant. She spoke to her physical geography teacher who told her it's harder to pick up the marks in human, lets hope he's right all sound.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 16:04

Ifonly4 ..physical is definitely his thing . Which is why fx he is hoping to do geology in September and not geography.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/06/2019 16:17

Bizzey, 'sluj and ifonly4 DS thought the Politics paper was good but was not best pleased with the Geography one. Human usually is his thing too...

Citygirl2019 · 06/06/2019 16:27

DS has said Geography was going well but confused himself on a 20 mark question. Hoping he did enough to pull it back. Really wanted an A in geography, it's his strongest subject and uni choice.

Piggywaspushed · 06/06/2019 16:36

DS did politics today . It was 'fine'.

ifonly4 · 06/06/2019 16:45

Glad politics seemed to go ok.

Another here wanting to do well in geography, as DD wants to do sustainability, more from the social side although other forms will overlap.

Citygirl - many misunderstand questions, run out of time, so I'm sure he'll be fine. DD hadn't quite finished summarising at the end of her last question. DD wants an A as well, but was worried at one point if she'd get a high B, it's so hard to tell.

bizzey · 06/06/2019 16:48

My one is still not home.
Cant work out what time the exam would have finished ?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/06/2019 16:53

Citygirl2019 ditto with DS. I did ask him what happens if he does better in the other two than in Geography. We shall see. He's most confident about the paper next week.

Bizzey would have thought the exam would have finished by 3.30pm latest. DS's OCR paper was 1 1/2 hours rather than two. So he was home earlier than usual.

Well he is home ..and seems happy !
Mind you my food delivery arrived at the same time with lots of (unhealthy) snacks!!
