Starting to regret that DS applied for support under disability as SFE are driving us mad.
DS is dyslexic, he even attended a specialist dyslexia school for 2 years but they want a post 16 assessment, no way are we paying for anther dyslexia assessment as I know that once they accept your medical condition the first thing they do is send you to an assessment centre!
Madness... sorry moan over.

Shimy · 26/06/2019 14:13

@Itscoldouthere that sounds completely bonkers and very frustrating. Can a letter from your GP confirming his diagnosis suffice?

Itscoldouthere · 26/06/2019 17:31

@Shimy no it has to be a report from a currently registered Educational Psychologist. I shall just give up if they insist on a new report as he’s unlikely to get much help anyway, he’s doing an arts based course so hopefully he won’t have many exams.
I thought universities were good with dyslexia, so I’m rather disappointed to have these problems from SFE already 🙄

Shimy · 26/06/2019 17:56

Ed. Psych reports are usually valid for 3yrs. Have you got one that’s in the the last 3 yrs?

LIZS · 26/06/2019 18:34

If he has had access arrangements for A level then he must have a valid assessment. Just send them a copy, if needs be uni can arrange to repeat it or a uni close to your home may do so before September.

Piggywaspushed · 26/06/2019 18:43

Stop Press. DS is going OUT . He is going for a Chinese with 3 friends.

Shimy · 26/06/2019 18:52

Oh my God Piggy

Piggy, that's great news. Maybe he will become quite a different person without the pressure of exams upon him. Hope he has a great time!

They cynic in me things that anything bureaucratic in nature requires one to jump through hoops, Itscoldouthere.

Thank you everyone.
Well I’ve sent them everything I have, I’m working on the swamp them with paperwork approach 😂
To tell you the truth it’s all been a bit depressing as I’ve also had to go through all my old paperwork for DS2 as well, who has an ASD, couldn’t help but re read and it was so sad to remember how difficult life was when he was 5 years old 😢
We’ve come a long way and he’s amazing, but now I feel like a wreck and will be downing a large G&T this evening 😂

Shimy · 26/06/2019 22:16

itscold Those bulging folders with paperwork from the consultant, therapists, school etc are a reminder always of how far they’ve come. It’s help you put things in perspective doesn’t it? Arguments about
‘top” universities, RG debates etc just remind you that health is everything and how lucky we are now to even be contemplating higher education for them because at the time the future looked so bleak and so complex with so many unanswerable questions.
Anyway, enough of this 😓 if you could handle that massive SEN paperwork you can certainly handle SFE!

ProlificLurker · 27/06/2019 10:06

Itscoldouthere Flowers hope you are feeling better today.

Piggy my DS also went out yesterday! Turns out it was to a gaming session at his mate’s house. Baby steps.

Piggywaspushed · 27/06/2019 13:01

lurker Grin

Mine was back by 9.30. Two of his friends went on clubbing, which seemed to puzzle him!

Shimy · 27/06/2019 15:06

Prolific another introverted DS. Mine has asked us to go on a couple of walks together, these have been the highlights of our day. We are due another walk this evening, a new path he’s discovered.

Piggy Clubbing? Now why on earth would anyone want to do that 🤷🏾‍♀️

ProlificLurker · 27/06/2019 15:49

Sounds about right Piggy Grin

Shimy that sounds lovely. Mine doesn’t do outdoors. Something about the quality of the graphics. Grin 🙄

justasking111 · 27/06/2019 18:23

Piggy mine sitting here on the phone. He is not a real party animal. Going to the Chester Races tomorrow with friends, that should be interesting.

LillianGish · 28/06/2019 15:18

Has everyone got their finance sorted out? DD just filled in her form so we will wait and see what she gets. Surprisingly easy the end - she'd put off starting because it said you needed an NI number and bank account when in fact you need neither and can add those details later.

MrKlaw · 02/07/2019 07:28

@LillianGish yeah did it just before exams. However I didn’t find out until after exams (and three days before DS was off on a euro trip for two weeks) that he hadn’t applied for any accommodation! Got that sorted though

What are people’s plans for results day? Are they planning to check ucas on the morning or letting their kids go into school for results? I’m not sure my son even knows the results will be on ucas
