Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

Justasking Hers's hoping she does much much better this year. Is it just Physics she's resitting?

Itscoldouthere · 20/05/2019 20:38

Just checking in to new thread. DS2 first exam June 4th.

Danglingmod · 20/05/2019 20:51

There are about a gazillion different options/combinations for History. Grade boundaries vary massively such that the boundary for a B is the same as for a C with a different combination!

justasking111 · 20/05/2019 20:52

Shimy not my daughter but a friend of DS. She is resitting. Such a clever girl, who studies hard, doing maths, chemistry and physics. Her bad marks were such a shock. DS who is an average student did better than her. The teacher said they just have to keep going over old papers if they want to get a good exam mark. Personally I do wonder about this newish teacher, he takes GCSE as well, their results were not great last year either.

errorofjudgement · 20/05/2019 20:57

Hi @Bigtillymint DD is doing witchcraft tomorrow (sounds very Hogwarts) but seems to cover a huge area geographically from Germany, through the Uk and out to Salem.

bigTillyMint · 20/05/2019 21:32

Witchcraft? Shock I had no idea that that could be a topic!

Laniakea · 20/05/2019 21:36

Dd’s History friends have Russia tomorrow - they are all absolutely dreading it :/

Good luck all around!

Danglingmod · 20/05/2019 21:43

It's a lot of writing... Though not quite as much as English Hmm

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/05/2019 22:09

Dd has her first exam on Weds. she has the shits, a high temp, a swollen neck, painful throat and I think may have mumps. God give me strength!

errorofjudgement · 20/05/2019 22:10

DD is dreading the Germany topic in History but luckily it’s her last exam and is a 4 day gap from her previous exam so is planning on a massive cramming session - not sure it’s the best technique!

justasking111 · 20/05/2019 23:06

Nico that is awful. I am going nuts just now because DH has a chest infection if he passes it around the family I will bloody kill him.

Shimy · 21/05/2019 00:00

Nico how can she have mumps? Did she miss her MMR?

BringOnTheScience · 21/05/2019 00:07

Oh Nico, poor thing! One of mine had whooping cough at age 12, despite having all the jabs. It's never 100%. Really hope that she is better soon!

BringOnTheScience · 21/05/2019 00:10

NewModel DC1 will be travelling for part of their looooooong summer and working locally for the rest.

errorofjudgement · 21/05/2019 05:45

Oh Nico that’s awful. There’s a thread running about mumps at the moment, seems like it’s becoming very common

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3590845-20-yo-DS-has-mumps-and-so-do-5-of-his-friends

Hoping your DD is soon feeling better

NicoAndTheNiners · 21/05/2019 06:10

She never had mmr. She had single measles and rubella jab but no mumps vaccines were available.

Danglingmod · 21/05/2019 06:20

Fingers crossed she's OK, Nico.

(My ds had MMR but not the booster because he was really ill during pre-school years and we somehow never got round to it. Always planned to catch him up with everything before University.)

IronManisnotDead · 21/05/2019 06:42

Part 1 Physics completed yesterday, next exam Friday. Good luck to all our DC!

TapasForTwo · 21/05/2019 06:50

I hope she feels better soon NicoAndTheNiners. What terrible timing Flowers

There have been an awful lot of mumps cases among first year students at university this year. 18 years ago so many parents believed that charlatan Wakefield that I think a lot of parents are regretting not having the MMR for their children right now.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/05/2019 06:56

Hope your DD feels better soon, NicoAndTheNiners. One of DS's primary school friends got mumps when he was about nine (and he had been vaccinated, although single one not combined MMR jab). Not a good time to be ill :-(

justasking111 hope your DH recovers well from his chest infection. There is a very nasty virus doing the rounds at the moment.

Even I am feeling nervous for DS this morning. He appears to be doing a History paper that few others are doing (it's all about warfare).

Having read Bibbity's thread (hoping she's okay), I cannot believe that DC aren't allowed to even have old fashioned (non techy) watches on their tables. I cannot have imagined sitting school/university exams without my trusty Timex at my side.

OP posts:
NicoAndTheNiners · 21/05/2019 06:57

Yes, our kids are the right age to have been due mmr at the height of the media scare. Obviously that's been disproved now but at the time it seemed such a risk which is why we did single vaccines. Kept getting told for ages a single mumps vaccine would soon be available, then dr said let her try and catch mumps as a child.

Decorhate · 21/05/2019 07:04

What terrible timing Nico. I’m sure you already know this but the sooner the Exams Officer is informed the better. As well as asking for special consideration, they will need to make arrangements for your dd to take her exams in a room on her own (if she is well enough to do them) and this takes time to sort out.

bigTillyMint · 21/05/2019 07:15

Laniaka, DD did Russia 2 years ago!

Sorry your DD is do unwell - 🤞🏼 it's not mumps.

Error, Germany is DSs favourite topic!

DS wore (and has always worn) his old-fashioned watch in his exams. He was at the back of the hall and couldn't see the clocks well so he needed it! He was v clear that at his school they announce what the time is on the clocks that they are all going by, so it sounds like something v strange was going on with Bibbitys DDs situation.

TapasForTwo · 21/05/2019 07:21

DD sat her A levels a year ago and was allowed to wear her old fashioned watch during the exams. She was also sat at the back as students were sat in alphabetical order, and our surname is at the back end of the alphabet.

NicoAndTheNiners · 21/05/2019 07:27

She's already sitting the exams on her own as she has chronic diarrhoea and may need to rush to the loo. She's getting extra time due to dyslexia and special consideration due to 60% attendance as she's been in hospital so much this year. Poor kid has had it all stacked against her.
