Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

Just been reading through the comments on Twitter re: Edexel Maths. Seems DS was quite measured in his feedback. So so bad!

whereshalligo · 05/06/2019 17:51

Edexcel maths here too. Didn't finish the paper and was very hard. The mechanics and stats paper last year was really hard and had very low grade boundaries only 65% for an A*
52 % for an A and 44% B. Fingers crossed this year that paper 1 is the 'hard' one and the other two papers are better. On a positive note over the half way mark now only 4 exams left.

justasking111 · 05/06/2019 18:21

The maths paper this morning all over Facebook, was a brute so all the students were saying, many came out crying...

Shimy · 05/06/2019 18:30

Not sure why people keep taking comfort in grade boundaries being lower what difference does it make? It’s seems to only benefit those who would’ve got the top scores AA,B , if 65% is the new A etc because hardly anyone will get the much higher scores of 90something. People like my DS who were hoping for a C will probably end up with an E Sad

Danglingmod · 05/06/2019 18:38

Well, no, Shimy - there's a complicated way of doing it but they more or less make sure that a similar number of students get each grade compared to previous years AND to their own potential... So if the A grade boundary goes down because of a hard paper, they all will.

Shimy · 05/06/2019 18:44

Aah! so perhaps not as simplistic a formula as I was thinking. I just thought if the boundaries are pushed further down the lower grades will just fall off the cliff.

Danglingmod · 05/06/2019 18:51

Yes they might - so it's still no harder to get an E/D/C etc... Grin

Shimy · 05/06/2019 19:01

Here’s hoping the next two papers are much easier Wine. The comments on Twitter & meme’s did make me laugh though.

bizzey · 05/06/2019 19:22

Shimy ...so glad you said that .
I thought i had been insensitive in my earlier post saying they were funy ....and then people saying how sad their dc's were.

First time for me going on Twitter!

justasking111 · 05/06/2019 19:25

There were some clever memes. Tomorrow physics eek...

Shimy · 05/06/2019 19:29

Bizzey They definitely were funny, infact it’s the only thing that’s made me chuckle this evening. You’ve got to give it to them for their creativity.

By the way anyone is the plural “memes” or “meme’s”?

Shimy · 05/06/2019 19:30

Looks like I’m alone in the meme’s camp. Why is there no apostrophe?

Laniakea · 05/06/2019 20:07

oh dear dd's stressed - she just lost it with dh because he put her dinner in the fridge rather than leave it in the oven! There's just soooo much to learn for biology & the module which they didn't get around to doing at school Hmm is still a bit wobbly. Might be a long night.

bizzey · 05/06/2019 20:10

Laniakea ...your poor dd .
She has had a rough old ride at school with her sciences.
How was her chemistry as i know that was a worry?

bizzey · 05/06/2019 20:12

Shimmy ..according to my dc's i cant even pronounce it right ! Let alone trying to spell it !

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 20:17

My sixth formers laugh at me when I say 'meme'. Apparently, I pull an old lady face. Charmed.

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 20:18

Definitely memes . It's a plural! No possession or omission. Here endeth the lesson.

bizzey · 05/06/2019 20:20

Oh Piggy ...do you do the Les Dawson face like me then !😁

Smithy01 · 05/06/2019 20:22

Another here with my son and his girlfriend both saying how difficult Maths was and not one student in their exam finished. Nice to know they’re not the only ones worrying about this.

Decorhate · 05/06/2019 20:34

Edexcel Maths here too. Ds said it was the hardest Maths paper he’d come across. But not as bad as Further Maths on Monday.

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 20:43

I must do bizzey !

Laniakea · 05/06/2019 20:55

she thought the first chem paper went okay but has actively avoided talking about it with anyone!

FrameyMcFrame · 05/06/2019 21:20

Really hoping everyone's dc did ok on that terrible maths paper! 😢

Shimy · 05/06/2019 23:07

Thanks piggy.

slalomsuki · 06/06/2019 08:16

Hard day here today with Politics and Geography. DS is looking to do Politics at university so he has built this up as a big deal. We had History yesterday so there has been a bit of a pinch point here but now nothing until next Thursday when he has the same again.

Looking forward to it all being over
