Just when exam season gets fully underway our previous thread has almost filled up. Everyone welcome Wink.

Yes, it's generally much more diverse, certainly if you follow the more interesting 20th C route through paper 2 , which it seems most DCs on here did.

I actually loved Brecht but I believed myself to be very socialist back then (hence the Shaw) and was quite intense!

bizzey · 05/06/2019 14:31

I eas just co.ing on to ask the same about maths.
Ds andc i are not on Twitter so was wondering what had been said .

bizzey · 05/06/2019 14:33

Sorry that was for @minsawine

minesawine · 05/06/2019 14:35

Bizzy Did they say it was really hard. He is in shock

LIZS · 05/06/2019 14:35

Dd's maths teacher said yesterday that as FM had been hard to expect today's to be. Hopefully the grade boundaries will be lower to compensate.

TheCheeseAlarm · 05/06/2019 14:36

DS1 sat Edexcel Maths. He also found it awful and is very upset. He has had to go straight into a History exam this afternoon.

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 14:42

Oh dear . Poor DCs being upset. I'll look on Twitter in a mo.

LIZS · 05/06/2019 14:44

Dd was taking AQA Maths. Won't hear how it went until after this afternoon's exam as she was in isolation in between.

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 14:45

Yes twitter is awash with various memes and comments. Does seem the whole country found it hard.

bizzey · 05/06/2019 14:47

Just checked ..yes EDEXEL.
He said there were loads of graphs.
He does not like graphs ...and did not finsh.

How do i join Twitter? !

Piggywaspushed · 05/06/2019 14:50

You don't need to join to view it . I think you can use twitter.com/search and get a search bar to look for Edexcel maths.

ifonly4 · 05/06/2019 14:53

bizzey - I don't think you have to join, just search twitter Edexel maths today and it'll come up. tsr might provide some further insight. If the paper was really bad, hopefully grade boundaries will be low.

Wiifitmama · 05/06/2019 14:56

Just to add what my da said about Edexcel maths this morning. He takes Further Maths too and generally finds Maths very easy. He came in saying it was really hard and that he pitied all the regular maths students who don’t be take further maths. Hopefully the grade boundaries will be kind to everyone.

minesawine · 05/06/2019 15:09

Its all over Student Rooms as well. Whilst I think its a shit situation, I am really glad to know that it was the exam that was hard and not that our DC's had not worked hard or revised enough. I know how hard my DC worked for that exam and am proud of him. Anyway onwards and upwards, they will all do better in papers 2 and 3 (fingers and everything else crossed!!!)

MrKlaw · 05/06/2019 15:28

Oh god - mine had Edexcel maths this morning. He had a horrible time with the Edexcel further maths last year - stuff that hadn’t been covered in the course or was asked in an unfamiliar way. Hope he’s ok (aiming for a maths degree at Warwick so needs a high mark and redoing further maths as he missed an A* by inches)

MrKlaw · 05/06/2019 15:32

And he had history this afternoon

I hope it doesn’t hit his confidence. He knows his stuff. But that further maths was horrible last year too. First exam of the new type so they’re all Guinea pigs to an extent

bizzey · 05/06/2019 15:52

Got on to the Twitter comment s
They are so funny.

Danglingmod · 05/06/2019 15:57

MrKlaw - did your ds do Further Maths A level a year before regular Maths? Seems a tad unusual?

Ds has two mates with Camb and Warwick places riding on their maths grades, so here's hoping grade boundaries are kind to them, too.

5LeafClover · 05/06/2019 16:09

Hope it's ok to join the thread so late. Edexcel maths here too. I sent a text saying' how did it go' and got back 'not good....you'd better look on Twitter' . Then the first post I saw was someone bragging that they'd had a 120 pound calculator that did graphs in the exam room with them. Hoping that was a wind up....

5LeafClover · 05/06/2019 16:11

(the calculator bit that is). Am fairly sure the not good wasn't a wind up.

MrKlaw · 05/06/2019 16:21

Danglingmod - not sure if I’ve got it the wrong way round but he did one of them last year :) maths & further maths A-level they do one after year 1 and the second in year 2

He’s retaking because he didn’t get his target for Warwick so doing both this year (along with history and chemistry)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2019 16:26

In contrast to the horrible sounding Maths paper, DS reports OCR History paper was 'good'.

OP posts:
Shimy · 05/06/2019 16:35

Poor DS really struggled with Maths this morning ☹️.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2019 16:36

Maybe because of the type of subject maths is, it was so hard to challenge the really strong candidates (of whom there must be many at A Level)?

OP posts:
Laniakea · 05/06/2019 16:52

Much sympathy to the maths people - maths & sciences seem to have been really hard this year.
