Shimy · 07/05/2019 20:13

Fazack Well done to your DD, that's a fab result. I have some good news of my own, DS got 61/70 in his Computing coursework. I know its not much (20% of the overall mark) but hey, every little helps!Smile

GoldenRuby · 07/05/2019 20:23

@Fazackerley you've just made me laugh out loud! Well done to your DD (in more ways than one!)

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 20:32

WinkGrin lol!!

My DS already has a bank account but wants to open a student account, although he hasn't started looking yet. We left bank details off the student finance application as it said it was ok to do so. Today he got a letter from SFS saying he had to provide bank details asap or their will be a delay in him receiving funds. Couple of questions, (1) what's the rush when the first payment is not until October, and (2) any recommendations on the best bank accounts. Thank you

Danglingmod · 07/05/2019 20:57

minesawine - I believe they can't open a Student Account yet unless they are holding an unconditional offer (ds is). We just gave his current current account (!) details and will just opt for converting it to a student one when we get around to it. I believe if you open a new account with a new institution (so numbers will change), he can just update Student Finance with new details.

bizzey · 07/05/2019 21:11

Minesawine...from what has been said on here is to put their current account down for sf and change over when student account is open.
That is what we are doing ..though we will wait till first payment is in ...so it doesn't get lost in the system !
As far as i know sf does not have to get paid into a student account...infact none of them will be able to get one yet. And the account could stay as it is.

Student account just come with petks .
We are going with the overdraft ..railcardi do onmy club card points.

Disclaimer...1st time i have given advice on this thread ..so errr could be wrong !!🤣

bizzey · 07/05/2019 21:15

I am soooo slow !! Started mine before dangling !!

ZandathePanda · 07/05/2019 21:17

Oh dear we left the bank account details clear so we’ll be getting a letter.....

Just had a funny conversation with Dd:

Me: at least you won’t have to download the dishwasher when you’re at university.
Dd: why?
Me: Confused you do know there isn’t going to be a dishwasher don’t you?
Dd: But how......Shock(realisation dawns)

Me: Tea towels and fairy liquid Grin

I have to say Dd has got ‘revision-brain’ at the moment but the delayed look of horror on her face made me laugh!

She’s a good cook but I bet she’ll learn to use less pans etc by the time she comes home.

Shimy · 07/05/2019 21:33

Zanda your DD will make a good flatmate for DS. He is an accomplished dishwasher with fairy liquid and tea towels but cannot cook.

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 21:37

My DS's first choice accommodation has a dishwasher! I couldn't help but wonder what rows break out over loading/unloading!

Danglingmod · 07/05/2019 21:38

Or downloading, according to Zanda Grin

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 21:39

I just thought maybe zanda had a very posh high tech dishwasher. Grin

bizzey · 07/05/2019 21:43

I want one of them...whete everything gets downloaded into it ...in a click of a button !!

Decorhate · 07/05/2019 21:51

Well done to your dd Fazackerley Remember Bath accomodation opens tomorrow!

ZandathePanda · 07/05/2019 22:22

Oh dear! We’ve always called it loading and downloading - maybe a Northern thing??Or just my mad family! I can still remember the muffin/bap/stottie/bun/cob confusion in my first term.

ZandathePanda · 07/05/2019 22:30

P.s. As downloader-in-chief, I also want a dishwasher that downloads itself. However, it is a rather lovely Bosch with a nifty red light that beams light on the floor until the cycle is finished so you know when to open the door.

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 22:43

decorhate thank you. Dd has made her list and she'll be trying to sort it tomorrow.

blametheparents · 08/05/2019 11:50

And off he goes to his first exam!
Me? Nervous? Noooo!
Is it too early for Gin?

Fazackerley · 08/05/2019 12:12

So I'm trying to work this out

If dd got 84 out of 90 marks for her coursework, and the two exams are worth 105 marks each, and you have to get 190 marks for an A - what percentage does she need to get in each exam for an A????? Grin

Fazackerley · 08/05/2019 12:14

Sorry 194 for an A (Last years grade boundaries)

blametheparents · 08/05/2019 12:24

So - total marks are 300, and you needed 194/300 for an A last year. So - an A grade was 64.6%.
But, I see that you are asking what she needs out of 210 now, cos she already has 84/90 for her coursework.
So - 110 / 210 required for the exams. Which is less than 50%?

Is that right?
Maths is not my strong point!

blametheparents · 08/05/2019 12:25

Or sorry, do you mean you need 194/210 for an A Grade in the exam?

Confused! (It doesn't take much!)

Fazackerley · 08/05/2019 12:37

No I think its 194 out of 300 for an A and that includes coursework that is 90 marks

Fazackerley · 08/05/2019 12:38

Tjat diesnt sound very high for an A though?
