Last year once my DCs place was confirmed post results the university contacted him directly asking how the fees would be paid. I’d just contact the university directly.

Has anyone's dc had an offer from Durham recently, but not yet a college allocation, and not yet an invitation to an offer-holders' day - which as far as I can see are on 27th March at the latest?! Just wait and see, at this stage, or pursue admissions for more information?

Report
bigTillyMint · 19/03/2019 21:13

DS got an offer last week, but not the college. No idea about the offerholders day or if they have now allocated a college - he hasn't mentioned and I haven't asked Grin

I think it's quite normal to get the college after the offer from what others have said.

Thanks tilly - yes I think college allocation following the offer is the norm - just seems like leaving it a bit close to the line to arrange an offer holders' day (and possibly night) next week!
But reassuring to know others may still be in the same position (though I realise your ds has neither confirmed nor denied!)

@blametheparents
my son took the IB last year - HL maths, chemistry, biology and SL - English, German and geography. He is now at Warwick studying accounting and finance.
Good luck to your son for the IB exams. On a positive note my ds says his first year at university is nowhere near as hard as the second year of the IB!

shanghai That's reassuring! HL English, Chemistry & Anthropolgy with SL Maths, History & Russian here. IB students work sooooo hard!

Hello all. My DS had a mock maths exam yesterday and said he forgot everything. He is devastated and has convinced himself he is going to fail. My heart beaks for him as he tried so hard. I am trying to keep him positive, but constantly saying the wrong thing

Oh no that’s horrible to hear, my heart always sinks when DC come home and are convinced they’ve done badly. Usually though they have attempted most of the questions and got at least part of the way there, though it takes a day or so before they get they realise it.
Hoping your DS has a better day today, and that the teacher is able to mark the papers quickly so at least he knows what he doesn’t know iyswim.

@BringOnTheScience
Yes, IB is a tough programme - Ds was completely fed up of CAS reflections, TOK, EE reflections...
When he started at Warwick he had a compulsory course called something like 'my future self' which involved loads of reflections and building things out of lego to show their learning style. Ds said the A level students were quite confused about this, but those who had taken the IB knew exactly what was expected as they were experts in 'reflecting'!

@shanghai -
Hopefully all be ok here on results day. DS needs 38 points which is achievable, but never easy. Fingers crossed.
Warwick is a fab uni, my DH was there many years ago!

Hello all, checking in!

DD got one of her A level coursework marks yesterday - top marks which takes the pressure off a bit for the written paper. She’s so chuffed - she lacked confidence for her GCSEs, struggled with subjects she hated and was seen as a bit of a duffer generally. Changing to a new 6th form has been the making of her and so this is just so great for her. Onwards!

Well done vancleefs dd! My dd got almost top marks in her coursework for A level but she has to present it to an outside examiner today. Eek. It counts for 30% of the grade so I've been trying to work out what she'd have to get in the written paper to get an A or B. My dd sounds similar, anxiety tends to spoil exams but give her coursework and she's flying.

I'm checking in.

My DS has Birmingham as his first choice.
I'm waiting for him to do finance and accommodation next.
He's waiting for the next party invitation!

dd's coursework assessment with the external examiner went really well so hopefully her marks will stand. Phew. She's more or less finished now - will just need to go in for A level revision.

itsallsoobviousnow and bigTillyMint - my DD has an offer from Durham a couple of weeks ago. She got her college allocation about three days later, unfortunately, not the one she wanted.

vancleefs and Fazacherley - that's good news for your DDs!

bigTillyMint · 20/03/2019 14:55

Ifonly4, I'll have to ask him now!

itsallsoobviousnow · 20/03/2019 15:54

Thanks ifonly and tilly - think it's been about 5 days for dc since offer, so still waiting for college.
Ifonly, has dd been invited to an offer day/night yet? From what i can tell that follows separately as well......TSR or Durham website would probably explain but I think looking there would be over invested of me!

DS got personalised post from Aberystwyth today : a nice letter and a handwritten card. Obviously, I know it's recruitment strategy but it's still nice. He gets stuff from them a fair amount; the others have gone a bit quiet.

itallsoobviousnow - I can't help much with an invite to offer holder day

  • DD hasn't mentioned and not so easy to check as she boards and we're not in daily contact. She thought long and hard, but has firmed St Andrews so perhaps not on her radar. She felt she'd struggle to get the grades for Durham, also the college she chose (and didn't get) particularly suited her. Not sure how often they release college allocations, but she got hers on a Thursday.

errorofjudgement -(waves!) hope your DD hears soon re: her audition and pleased she's done well in her mocks. Can you believe my DD has firmed a uni 400 miles from home? Proud of her though.

Hi everyone, just checking into the new thread.

DD is still wavering about what to put as insurance choice, I just want it finalised, then we can get on with working Confused

Report
BringOnTheScience · 20/03/2019 23:11

Finally got the offer from Manchester (34, with 655 for Highers). So that's been Firmed, with Sheffield (33) as Insurance. Good job DC1 chased them.

DD got an email today from one of the Unis she rejected. It says “please tell us why you didn’t take up our unconditional offer”. Can’t decide whether this is sensible garnering of feedback, or slightly desperate, bottom lip out whining 😂

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/03/2019 06:51

Gosh I wish I could get a look at DS's emails to see what's come through. I think I've managed to clap eyes on just the one and I can't recall how I did that even! DS is like an impenetrable fortress much of the time!
