New thread started. Here's the previous one

I think it depends newmodel - if you get the grades they do confirm straight away, but if you miss them the university will either confirm, decline, think about it for a short while before deciding, or wait until August A level results to see how many other students have made/not made their offers.

Good luck to all with exams this week - ibac and A levels (A level MFL orals as well, or am I wrong?)!

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 11:01

Yup, orals this week. I am now very well versed in Catalan independence post Franco. (in Castilian, ironically)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/05/2019 12:06

Catalan independence post Franco. Sounds really interesting, Piggy. I made the mistake of trying to discuss the recent upheaval with a Catalan 'national' - clearly too hot potato a topic to discuss in polite society. I was totally blanked and the conversation moved on very swiftly.

Invisibleiink oh no, that would just add to the agony, having to wait another month or so to find out one's future.

Yes newmodel at least you usually find out quite quickly after A levels - though not always i suppose, if there are remarks involved.

(and some universities take longer than others to tell you whether you can come with dropped A level grades, I gather although I think the time scale is more like a week than a month!).

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 15:33

I'm v confused. Just gone back into DS's loan application and it says the amount minus top up is £4168. Surely that's not correct? That's way below what I though the minimum loan was!

MrKlaw · 07/05/2019 15:47

That’s exactly the minimum maintenance loan. If your combined income (both parents plus student income) is > £62k (ish) that’s where it’ll bottom out

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 15:55

Oh,OK. Got so many numbers going around in my poor head!

I have now been on hold to them for 18 minutes because if you try and make any changes, it tells you to phone.

Invisibleiink · 07/05/2019 15:57

Is it? Have to admit I thought it was more, but I am not very up to speed. So that is considerably less than even the year's rent for quite a lot of accommodation.

Obviously that doesn't include the tuition fees which are paid separately (which I know you know!)

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 16:25

Oh yes, miles less!

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 16:27

Yes lots less. If dd get her first choice accommodation we will have to top up by about 5 or 600 a month.

Hope you get it sorted piggy

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 16:30

A bit of good news here, dd got an A for her epq, one mark off an a* apparently (thanks teacher marking guy Hmm )

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 16:30

Got through eventually! It's lucky they all have lovely, soothing Geordie accents at SFE!

Apparently the changes I need to make are all done by them. I hope he's right!

This is all because DH UNresigned today. You couldn't make it up .

Am considering running away to join the circus taking DS2 with me

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/05/2019 16:49

Fazackerley well done to your DD. Couldn't it go up to an A* if externally moderated though? Those 'internal' marks are only guidelines rather than set-in-stone grades, aren't they?

I expect a big sigh of relief from you for DH unresigning (impressed that it's even possible!), Piggy. A pity you couldn't have made him phone SFE for his sins...

I was tempted but he would have just made me sit with him to answer all the questions. On his gravestone, it will probably say 'I'm not really sure this was a good idea. Can I change my mind?'

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/05/2019 17:10

He's not born under the star sign of Libra is he? Well at least he did think the better of his decision. Has he made the right one though, do you think?

OP posts:
Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 17:18

Yes that's what she's hoping wi happen.

Piggywaspushed · 07/05/2019 17:42

Financially, yes. We'll see. He is a Virgo, as am I. Same birthday as it goes!

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 17:45

Dh and I are both virgins

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 17:45

blametheparents · 07/05/2019 17:46

First exam for my DD tomorrow. I'm buckling my seatbelt for the ride and hope to see you all in the other side. Good luck to all your DC's x

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 07/05/2019 17:54

OP posts:
Itscoldouthere · 07/05/2019 18:00

Well done Fazackerley on the DD EPQ that’s very helpful as I know Bath takes them into consideration, you must be pleased.

Good luck to everyone who has already started exams.
