New thread started. Here's the previous one

Does anyone else think 2 options out of the original 5 university choices is too few? I think 3 out of the 5 would’ve been a lot better.
1 aspirational (a bit above predicted grades) 1 (matches predicted grades) and 1insurance.

Anyone know when UEA is opening for accommodation applications? Not sure what the delay is Hmm

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/04/2019 15:21

sluj no idea. It was supposed to be the end of March but I took my finger off the pulse rather, so was shocked to take another look last week and still find it's not open. I do think they've already put back the 'apply by' date though, haven't they? Taps finger in an impatient manner.

sluj I'm also waiting for the UEA booking system to open, very frustrating indeed. There's been no updates since they changed from 'opens end of March' to 'opening soon'

GoldenRuby · 23/04/2019 15:52

My DS is under the misapprehension that he had already booked his UEA accommodation just because I made him look at the options online. Good job it's not first come first served as otherwise he wouldn't be fast enough off the mark (although I'd be nudging him in the background). He did get a nice glossy little booklet from them with nice photos of campus last week, and he is excited, just a bit laid back. I helped him do student finance at the weekend, so that's out of the way at least.

Itscoldouthere · 23/04/2019 16:15

DS got the glossy photo book from UEA as well, I did think it was a bit OTT as DS hasn’t firmed UEA yet.

juicy0 · 23/04/2019 17:37

No glossy brochure here! Perhaps they're still trying to tempt those who haven't firmed yet?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/04/2019 17:46

juicy0 DS has insured UEA and we got one - thought it a bit of a waste of money myself but I guess the intention was good.

Dd received her Student Finance letter today having applied on 16th.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/04/2019 17:54

LIZS isn't that the standard (preliminary) one though? I believe DS applied on the 3 March and received the equivalent five days later. Incidentally he has just received another one asking for his bank account details. I didn't think he could apply for a student one until his university place is confirmed (i.e. after Results Day) - is that right?

Fazackerley · 23/04/2019 18:03

Dd rejected UEA and still got the book!

LIZS · 23/04/2019 18:07

The SF letter is headed Your 2019/20 student finance application has been approved, with figures, plus there is a page headed University or college payment advice.

sluj · 23/04/2019 19:30

Interesting about the UEA book, DS2 firmed it and has not got the book so maybe it is intended for the ones still considering? Shame as we would have liked one, DS1 is already there.

GoldenRuby · 23/04/2019 19:45

My DS firmed UEA back in February - maybe their marketing dept maybe are still sending them out to everyone on their contact list, I think DS's arrived last Thursday.

juicy0 · 23/04/2019 19:54

goldenruby sluj what courses are your DC planning to study at UEA?

Shimy · 23/04/2019 20:36

We didn’t get any book from UEA.Envy

sluj · 23/04/2019 21:39

Mine is Geography BSc at UEA, how about everyone else?

GoldenRuby · 23/04/2019 22:28

My DS is going to do Physical Education (he wants to be a PE teacher).

juicy0 · 24/04/2019 07:01

My DD is BA Geography

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/04/2019 08:44

DS has UEA as insurance for Geography, Sluj.

On a different note, DS got his Geography coursework predicted grade yesterday (a high B he reckoned) and was beyond disappointed, as he's aiming for an A overall. Having discussed it with him, we decided that his area of research wasn't the most 'meaty' and think this impacted on the quality of the whole piece of work. He's going to have a chat with his teachers today to see if an A is still achievable.

What has come through loud and clear though is his strong desire to get into Durham.

Dd is looking to do history at York. Or a mix of history and ancient history at Liverpool.

Bangor was trying to throw money at her (£3.5k) if she made them firm which would then be UIF with the money given if she still got her high grades.

She really liked the look of their history and heritage course and reasonably, I think she could get into that after clearing no problem.

juicy0 · 24/04/2019 12:23

For those waiting for UEA accommodation I just received the following message via twitter:

We are pleased to say that everything is now in place and we'll be launching this via our colleagues in Admissions very very soon.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/04/2019 12:45

JuicyO thanks for the update.

Those courses sound interesting, DrMadelineMaxwell. Wow my head would have been turned by a £3.5K grant offer!!!!

@juicy0 @sluj I've just checked the UEA website and accommodation booking is now open. Deadline is 31st July.

Itscoldouthere · 24/04/2019 13:16

Thanks for the update, DS is going to firm his choices today and UEA is his insurance, good to know he will be able to apply for accommodation as well 😊
