Looks like we need a new thread.

Ok. Why do they say it’s 8 am if it isn’t?

Our school opens at 7.30 am with a team to help. Dd is not good at mornings at the best of times and is just in bits now, quite angry and unhappy with the whole 6th form experience and the whole system. She wants to be there when it opens. Do you think that is a good thing for her? Are mates in the same boat the best companions?

If I don’t say anything, she will believe the 8 am thing.

There is no way she would give me access to her track (I’m an early riser but...). I darent even suggest it. I even got told off for trying to explain to a relative on the phone last night, due to her overhearing and being reminded. All relatives are abroad and can’t understand why we don’t know what our dd is doing with her life in less than a month’s time. Most other countries seem to have some actually sense and humanity with their youngsters, imho!

I will be waiting outside on my usual taxi duties and in order to pay for remarks if nec.

Hubbleisback · 15/08/2018 10:33

Au I can feel your stress. My advice would be to let her find out in her own time and in her own way. 630 or 8.00 - doesn't really matter.

HingleMcCringleberry · 15/08/2018 10:47

Congratulations to your DD pietersburg - another Oxford Classicist, how awesome!

Hubbleisback · 15/08/2018 11:24

Yes pietersburg congratulations to your DD!!

Pomegranatemolasses · 15/08/2018 11:32

Best of luck to all. DS got his results here this morning (Ireland) and thankfully has got the required grades. So Cambridge it is - relief is an understatement!

STEPmum18 · 15/08/2018 11:48

We'll done to all students who have made their offers. 👍I didn't know dome found out today. Lucky you! I haven't asked DS for his tracker log in details (although I'd love to!) and he hasn't decided yet whether to look online early or just go into school when it opens. I'm leaving it up to him and hoping he shares the info with me as soon as he knows.

STEPmum18 · 15/08/2018 11:49

Should have said "some"not dome.

toomanytolist · 15/08/2018 11:50

Maths grade boundaries are out (leaked?) for Edexcel. They look very scary!

Hubbleisback · 15/08/2018 13:39

Congrats to pomegranate DS!!

ErrolTheDragon · 15/08/2018 14:00

Congratulations to those who know already - what's he going to be doing, pomegranates?

It seems like a long time since last year to me. DH got a parking fine, he and DD were so delighted he forgot he'd only paid for an hour and she wanted to talk to her mates.

HesMyLobster · 15/08/2018 14:53

Brilliant news pomegranate, congratulations to your DS! Star

Pomegranatemolasses · 15/08/2018 15:57

Thanks so much for congrats, he will be doing law.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2018 19:28

Congratulations Pomegranate :)

Lots of students didn’t get their grades this year - if your DC was one don’t assume that they didn’t get in. As there were so many then admissions tutors knew it was something systemic, and have accepted some who missed by a whisker.

Lucycat · 15/08/2018 19:53

BeBesideTheSea how do you know that lots haven't got their grades? Are you in admissions?
Feeling even more nervous now....

kaiserschmarrn · 15/08/2018 19:56

DS has forbidden any discussion of results day for the last few weeks. The embargo has now been lifted.

He is not hopeful about his Cambridge offer as some of the further maths papers didn't go well, not to mention STEP. Based on what he's said, it would be a miracle if he got his place, to be honest.

There's also a significant chance that he may miss his insurance offer with Warwick by not getting the A* in further mathss. Up till now he had said he wouldn't consider clearing and would rather take a year out, but now he is considering trying Bristol and maybe Bath if they have places.

I'm still hoping for a miracle but preparing for reality. DS is very calm and rational about the whole thing and I'm happy to see that he knows what he wants and is thinking clearly.

The very best of luck to all the clever, hardworking DCs on here; I hope everything goes brilliantly tomorrow. And thank you to everyone on this thread for being so supportive. ThanksWine

Hubbleisback · 15/08/2018 20:11

I want to echo ^Kaiser's* gratitude for all the help and support you gave me at the time of the interviews. I disappeared for a while for personal health reasons but I am really pleased to be back at this crucial time. We did not have a smooth exam period so are very anxious here tonight.

Hubbleisback · 15/08/2018 20:16

I'm thinking bubble bath, bed and a murder mystery.Biscuit Brew

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2018 20:42

Kaiser Bath had clearing places when I looked a couple of days ago.

Flowers for everyone. Hang in there. Not long now.

Universities get the results a week ahead of students.

goodbyestranger · 15/08/2018 21:17

Fingers firmly crossed for Hubble DS and Lobster DD (and indeed all those nervous of results).

I'm mystified by BeBesideTheSea's comment without further clarification. Do you work in the sector BBTS? Are you saying that this year's results have slumped at the top end? Well, you are saying that really so not sure why I'm asking tbh :)

Good luck the DC!

goodbyestranger · 15/08/2018 21:26

Also BBTS basically Track says if Oxford / Cambridge have decided to accept a DC anyhow, having had their meetings this week, so if Track says no then it's likely to be a no unless the DC is at a posh school (not naming names :) with lots of influence, in which case things seem to sometimes move on the day (case in point on MN last year). But for ordinary DC the uni will have made their decision by now, with the caveat that some colleges may agree to wait on a priority re-mark.

goodbyestranger · 15/08/2018 21:32

Should have closed my bracket after :)

BeBesideTheSea · 15/08/2018 21:36

Was just trying to reassure that if you hear the raw results, don’t assume it is a “no” from Oxbridge (or indeed anywhere). As goodbye says, the decisions have been made. Some of which will be to accept with seemingly lower results than “usual”.

Good luck to all DCs

Thesearepearls · 15/08/2018 22:05

So here we are all

Good luck for everyone for tomorrow
