Dear all,

I have really enjoyed these threads. So if anyone else wants to keep up posts on DC travelling through trials and tribulations of uni life - do post here.
Smile

Have your DC been revising at all for instance? Do you now stand back?

Littleho - hope your DD gets hers soon as well.

goodbyestranger · 14/07/2016 17:17

Thanks Hocus. Studiedly casual e-mail with a decent length non exam related preamble sent to Budapest. Not sure if Budapest will get it. Budapest may well have run out of phone charge now I come to think of it. Useful to know and hope your' DSs were ok (I'm completely confident they were!).

HocusLotus · 14/07/2016 18:20

He did OK , actually Goodbye , thank you. He knows of one other same subject friend from a different college who also got results today. Wider than that , he cannot say. Sorry for duff gen re next week being the time but I think Ds was genuinely surprised they were this early. Good luck to Goodbye Jnr & here's hoping he stumbles across a charger soon.

LittleHoHum · 14/07/2016 18:30

Still no news. No news is good news as they say.

goodbyestranger · 14/07/2016 22:16

DS isn't being given the heave ho it turns out, thank goodness. A very short and to the point return e-mail just gave me his four respective marks.

Well done to Hocus DS. Good luck to your DD LittleHoHum.

muffinmonster · 18/07/2016 13:28

DD finally got results last Wednesday - equivalant of a first overall. So pleased for her - she was accepted for her uni despite missing her offer by three grades (Shock) and I really worried that she would struggle with the course.

seimum · 18/07/2016 13:35

Well done Muffin DD!

Quietlygoingmad67 · 18/07/2016 14:13

Well done to everyone's dc - first year at uni is a BIG learning curve regardless of results I think all our dc have achieved a lot this year X

voilets · 18/07/2016 15:15

So glad to hear all the results. A lot to deal with for Mums as well as DC. Grin
muffinmonster - I get the worry about whether the course is too much for them. My DS did get the grades for his uni which we were astonished by ( I wanted him to go to his 2nd choice uni but he knew what he wanted) and at first he found the course so very hard but he just scraped a 2:1 which we are all so relieved and delighted by. A lot is demanded of them. Congrats to your DD.

Congrats to all who passed. Good luck to all those who need to re-take and reflect on what is best for them.

Have been so glad of this thread! Smile

My DS has just gone off camping today with thunderstorms approaching!! Hmm

LittleHoHum · 18/07/2016 16:53

Still no news but they have said we can drive in and collect it. I think dd1 will need a re-take for one unit (if it is allowed and considered wise of course). I'll just sit in the corner and quietly gnash my teeth.

Why can't all offspring be organised? dd2 organises life like it is a highly planned military exercise.

LittleHoHum · 20/07/2016 21:15

dd1 got good marks in two modules and bombed out in the third. No idea what the next step is but from what she says everyone is being kind about things.

She is a lovely girl but she drives me nuts sometimes. Hmm

goodbyestranger · 20/07/2016 22:30

What year is your DD1 in LittleHoHum?

Horsemad · 20/07/2016 22:33

How does she feel LittleHoHum?

LittleHoHum · 21/07/2016 10:41

Year 1 goodbye. She wants to find out what she did wrong Horsemad. Why did one module go wrong when the others were high? She will be meeting someone to discuss everything.

I think she feels worried and sick about things and this has galvanised her into a major revision programme (which may be for nothing). She is compiling a folder to show what she intends to do about it.

I'm going to leave it to her and I'm lucky that things are going well with the other three teenagers.

HocusLotus · 21/07/2016 19:26

I wish her well Little - I think she was amongst the musketeers.

DS says he cannot say on your Dds course , but by and large where he is (year 1) one paper you can retake without a big fuss. I hope it is the same for DD. All best wishes. She sounds like she has a decent plan - good for her for getting that in place

Horsemad · 21/07/2016 19:28

She sounds very organised and proactive Little, unlike my son who won't discuss anything with either myself, DH or his tutors... Hmm

LittleHoHum · 21/07/2016 19:37

No. Smile The musketeer is dd2 and she got really high marks as she is super organised.

dd1 is a creature of contrasts - mixture of high marks and a disaster. At least she is sorting out a meeting & revising.

Good luck Horsemad - really feel for you in that situation. So frustrating.

voilets · 21/07/2016 22:46

littlehohum- you must be pleased your dd is so pro-active. Most will have ups and downs at uni exams I'm sure. Glad uni seem supportive

So sorry horsemad - frustrating and worrying - at some point reality will hit him and he'll do something. Is annoying parents can't talk to unis and get advice at times like these.

Not visited this thread for a while but it was nice to catch up with everyone's news. I cant believe the first year is done and dusted already.
DD got very stressed during exams but ended up with a 2:1 so she was really pleased overall.
She is now spending alternative weeks in London for work experience and visits to her boyfriend. She has found a company called mega bus that takes her from Merseyside to London for the bargain price of £6!
She is so much more independent which is lovely to see.
I hope everyone is having a nice summer and those DC who are travelling have a great time. Fingers crossed horsemad that everything turns out well and your DS is able to resit.

Horsemad · 19/08/2016 18:26

Hello Everyone, how are we all?! Grin

I am ok, DS is going back to re-sit (he's hardly been here since he finished for the summer, so I haven't had much opportunity to talk to him about his plans but that's what he wants to do). I have everything crossed that he works hard this year. DH has had several 'chats' with him, so hopefully he realises he can't bury his head in the sand. Watch this space... Hmm

DS2 got AS results yesterday and is doing well, so that's good.

Hope everyone has had a good break and enjoyed the holidays. Smile X

voilets · 19/08/2016 18:34

Good luck to your DS Horsemad. Smile

Well done to your son with fine AS results.

Fingers crossed here for GCSEs next week. My DD awaits.

My DS says he's going back fro freshers which pleases me - he's so busy with friends here who all go back to uni later - I fear he'll stay around home and not go back early to get stuck in to build a greater circle of friends for year 2.

Am paying for house. He likes his prospective housemates so fingers crossed.

OP posts:
Horsemad · 19/08/2016 21:48

Thanks voilets Smile. Glad your DS likes his housemates - always a bonus!

PUGaLUGS · 19/08/2016 22:06

Hopefully fingers crossed Horsemad your DS pulls his finger out. Keeping everything crossedd for you. Well done your other DS.

voilets GCSE results awaited here too. I am going to reserve judgement on this.

DS went back to his new house the day we got back from holiday on the 25th July. He messaged me this morning to say he is helping out on Freshers Week and has to go for training on the 7th. He will be supplied with free food and soft drinks all week which I am sure is one of the reasons he is helping Grin.

Horsemad · 20/08/2016 00:06

PUGaLUGS, thanks. Hope the GCSE results are ok - and for your DD too voilets. Smile

hellsbells99 · 20/08/2016 02:33

Good luck to your DS Horsemad. My DD1 is starting afresh - new uni, new course. DD2 has just got her A level results and is off to her first choice. So, I am going to have 2 freshers and double the expense! I just hope they both hack it this year.
