I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

Good idea. Dd has one interview before Xmas and at the moment just keeping up to date with medical news and issues but nothing more. At least no rejections as yet. She definitely doesn't want track to update at the moment! Where are your dc's interviews? Are they MMI?

Mindgone · 11/11/2014 13:07

He has Leicester next month, which is MMI, and Durham next week, which is panel. Is your DD's Birmingham? Is it MMI? I must admit, the MMI sounds though!

Oh well done Mindgone I was also thinking we needed a fresh thread!

Mindgone · 11/11/2014 19:34

Great minds! Wink

Great I'm in ! DS has Birmingham coming up - just had some mock interviews in school which went well, and BMAT was 'ok' apparently

Mindgone · 12/11/2014 14:03

Great that BMAT was 'ok'! DS has friends who did it, and said it was horrible!

QueenQueenie · 12/11/2014 19:17

Well done op. Good call.
Ds also has B'ham i/v soon... and also says BMAT was "OK" Grin
Waiting to hear from everywhere else (Cambridge / Leeds / Sheffield).

Mindgone · 12/11/2014 19:37

Thanks Queenie! Best of luck with Birmingham, and Carriemac too. DS also waiting to hear from Sheffield.

Ds did the BMAT London preparatory course which he found really helpful, so we shall see... Does anyone know when Sheffield start offering interviews?

Mindgone · 14/11/2014 12:57

Sounds good Carriemac! When will you know the results of the bmat?

Has anyone thought about, or tried an interview prep course? DS isn't keen, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of them?

DD's interview is at Birmingham but also waiting for news from Cambridge although that won't come until after 25 November as that is when they get the BMAT results. Someone she knows has already got an interview there as it's a college that doesn't factor in the BMAT in selecting for interview. Wish she'd known that before choosing the college! I think Sheffield send out interview dates just before Xmas - or was that Leeds...... Good luck to everyone - it's going to be an action-packed Xmas and New Year!

Carriemac · 14/11/2014 15:03

Re the interview course, it depends on the school. DS a school seems very on the ball re practice interviews and have a great hit rate for their applicants so he is not interested in another course!

Mindgone · 17/11/2014 10:38

DS has his first interview tomorrow! He has only had one mock interview with a teacher last week. School have arranged for a GP parent who used to be involved in medical school admissions locally, to come in and give some interview practice. But she can't come until Wednesday! One day out! Good luck MasterMind Wink. Hope it goes well!
Still waiting for Cambridge i/v / rejection here...

Decorhate · 17/11/2014 18:43

Fingers will be crossed for your ds Mindgone. Is that Birmingham? My dd is there on Weds

Mindgone · 17/11/2014 22:14

Thanks Queenie and Decorhate, will let you know how it goes! It's for Durham. Best of luck for Wed Decorhate, and hope you get good news soon Queenie.

Do you know yet how he got on Mindgone?

Mindgone · 18/11/2014 22:56

He was very nervous, but thinks it went ok. It's so hard to tell, and a lot depends on the competition. It was a long way to go for a 35 minute interview! No tour, or chat with current students, I waited in the car. It's still his favourite though! I guess they try to woo them at the post offer days, when they know who they want! :)

Very best of luck to your DD tomorrow Decorhate! And you too, I hope they entertain you, or at least give you time for a wander round the shops! I went there with DS1 last year for a chem eng interview, and we had a lovely day. I was surprised at how nice Birmingham is! :)

Glad to hear it went well. I'm not going with my d tomorrow, my h is taking her. Which I'm slightly anxious about as he's not great at navigating & hasn't been there before... My d is now panicking about what they may ask. Biting my tongue in case I say something about leaving it till the last minute! Durham is supposed to be lovely so hope it works out for him.

QueenQueenie · 18/11/2014 23:09

Well done to your ds Mindgone and good luck tomorrow for your dd tomorrow Decorhate. Ds got i/v invite for Cambridge today. Yikes!

Mindgone · 18/11/2014 23:32

Decorhate, am sure she'll be fine, the first is always the worst! With ethical scenarios it's so hard to prepare, and tbh, I don't think they want prepped answers, but a real idea of the candidate's thinking and personality. Tell her to relax and be herself, that's what they want to see. I hope your H has a satnav! If not, at least unis are well sign posted!

Queenie, thanks, glad it's done, now just the long wait until March to find out! Very well done to your DS for a Cambridge interview! Very exciting! If you're staying over, get a hotel booked, it'll be a very busy few days in Cambridge! It's such a lovely city, and he'll have a great experience!

Decorhate · 19/11/2014 13:37

Not sure how relaxed she is going to be today - they had a nightmare journey, motorway was shut due to an accident, they had to go cross country. But she has registered now though her interview isn't going to be till 4. She will be shattered tonight.

Decorhate · 19/11/2014 13:38

Forgot to say what fab news Queenie! And quite quick considering BMAT results are not back yet

QueenQueenie · 19/11/2014 18:20

How did she get on Decorhate?

I'm very pleased he's got his Cambridge invite pre BMAT results - it does suggest his chosen college mean it when they say they don't place great emphasis on the BMAT scores... He is very calm at the prospect of the interviews - I'm the one that feels anxious!

Decorhate · 19/11/2014 20:02

It was MMI format. Overall she thought it went well though was a bit Hmm about some of the stages. Those "give us an example of ..." type of thing
