I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

Glad it went well Decorhate, it's so hard to answer those type of questions though, you really don't know what they'll come up with! Which is the point I guess!
Did she find it difficult doing so many stations in quick succession?

No. I think she didn't mind that aspect of it. Just a waiting game now. They make offers purely on the basis of the interview. So hard to judge.

I think we have a long winter ahead!

Sounds as though it went well Decorhate. Big week here as one interview (MMI) and also waiting to hear from Cambridge which will depend on BMAT results - out on Weds. Lots of keeping calm required!

Hopefully but it's so hard to know. And Birmingham make purely based on the interview...
Awaiting BMAT here too as dd has applied to 2 that use it

Best of luck with your big week, oyster2, hope it all goes well.
Hope all BMAT results are good too!

So, how was the BMAT? Uneven result here with wide variation between sections. So mixed feelings and quite a bit of uncertainty. Not sure what to think really!

My dd seems happy with hers. But it's uncertain how Leeds will use the results & think she would still be v v lucky to get an Oxford interview as her GCSEs are slightly below what they look for.

Quick update - Dd v happy to get email with Cambridge interview. I think several colleges are getting these out now having looked at BMAT scores. Her BMAT was OK but not fantastic so I think hope still for everyone.

So glad you have good news Oyster! I didn't quite know what to say with a few of you with unhappy DC after the BMAT Sad
Carriemac, any good news yet for your DS? How's he doing? Best of luck to him for the Birmingham interview!

Had a chat with DS 're BMAT. It seems his was worst result in school ( out of 4) others are really high flyers though, Oxbridge hopefuls who do extra A2s for fun. His was above average nationally

Carrie, above average (5 and up?) is a good result. Looking at TSR there are lots of Cambridge interviews with scores less than this. Is he going for Leeds? If so, the BMAT is only a small part of their scoring so if the rest of his application is strong there is every chance. Sometimes if they are surrounded by really high flyers it's difficult to see the bigger picture. It doesn't sound as if he should be too downhearted at this stage.

Yes, it's for Leeds. I know it's just a part of it, but they are really up against a lot of others. He was also a little miffed at one of his classmates who has just done a birmingham interview. DS asked him how it went, and he said ' I'm not telling you anything, you're the competition'
Miserable bugger. Most if the other med candidates at his school are lovely though

Carrie, it sounds like your DS did really well, I hope he hears soon, and I hope the miserable little arse gets what's coming to him! Grin

That's fab decorhate, does she know anyone who's been though the Oxbridge process? Are her school helpful?

Report
Decorhate · 02/12/2014 21:39

Thanks Carrie. Her school don't get many applying for medicine though a few others have Oxbridge interviews for other subjects. She doesn't know anyone who has applied or got a place for medicine there. She has been in touch with someone who went to her school who is doing Medicine at Cambridge but don't know if the interview process is similar.

Fingers crossed that Leeds comes good for your ds. My dd is hoping for an interview for there too

Great news Decorhate. I get the impression Oxford medicine is more competitive than Cambridge so your dd is doing really well to get an interview, and once at interview don't the odds come down significantly?
