I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

Does anyone know if Birmingham are likely to give out any more offers now or if you haven't heard will it be March for news? Something on TSR implied there would be more this week but I'm starting to doubt this. Any offer, from anywhere, would be so welcome!

Decorhate - DD went to Cardiff open day on the train with a friend and found the journey fine. The uni has it's own station called Cathays.

Hi Carriemac. Good luck with Leeds. I have a 2nd DD doing AS levels this year so I also have the extra stress like you! We still haven't booked the hep B - must sort it out this week.

Thanks Hellsbells. I think I will just give her money for a taxi. The medicine interviews are not on the main campus I think.

Decorhate, I think that's a good decision, and takes some of the stress out of the day! Very best of luck to her :)

Well done miniDecorhate! Fantastic news! Can I touch you for good luck while ds1 waits to hear from Cambridge?!

Thanks both. Tried to post the good news on here too but was having problems getting the website to work earlier. Dd is over the moon obviously - especially as it's her first medicine offer (waves two fingers at Birmingham who haven't got back to her yet)

Good luck to everyone waiting to hear from Cambridge.

The cardiff interviews are at UHW (heath park)There is a train station 5 minutes walk away or taxi from central station would take about 10-15 minutes.

Thanks Wanda!

Carrie, even if she got a Birmingham offer now, she can't make it her insurance as they will also want A*AA

DS has just come back for the GPs with no hep B vaccination. apparently the nurse did not know if he should be charged for it or no so wouldnt do it. what a waste of time/ money for everyone ! Ds had to leave school early for this appt and the only advice from the practice was to ask birmingham university if he should be charged for it or not.

That's ridiculous Carrie. My dd's letter from Oxford said that ideally she should get the vaccine before she arrives but they would sort it out there if she hadn't already. But they don't have any clinical placements for several years.

Yay! Good news from Cambridge for ds this morning. Offer from the college he applied to. Am so very pleased for him and so impressed - he's managed the whole process very well better than me anyway.

Oh Oyster that is fabulous news. I have been hoping to see a post from you today. You can also wave two fingers at Birmingham now!

Report
Oyster2 · 10/01/2015 14:21

Thanks. She is so happy to have an offer. Can't really give the two fingers to Birmingham yet though - Cambridge offer is their standard A A A so an insurance might be needed! Congratulations to Queenie and Decor's dcs.

Ah forgot that Cambridge offer is higher than Oxford so Birmingham still feasible for insurance.

Oyster2 Cambridge is pretty successful at picking out the students who go to get 2A*s or more so although it seems frightening almost all Cambridge medics end up getting a place. If she misses her grades she can send her ums and may still be taken in. Dont be put off when she gets the letter saying that, it goes to all Cambridge medics. However sensible applicants still keep an insurance offer.

We drove when we visited Cardiff but as soon as we got the map out and looked puzzled someone would stop to help, it was a very friendly medical school.
