I thought I would start a new one, as the last one went a bit 'off topic'! How's everyone getting on? Am so excited, and a bit nervous, as DS has two interviews coming up! How is everyone else's DCs preparing? Also, any tips from anyone who's been there?

I don't know Oyster. They use different criteria to choose who to interview - AS with v high scores for Cambridge, GCSEs for Oxford. Dd didn't think her ASs were high enough though tbh her GCSEs, whilst good, were not the straight A*s they imply you need. So almost pleasantly surprised to get over yet another hurdle!

What does your DD need/ want to know about the Oxford process Decorhate? DS has always been an interview helper and was his college medic rep. He's there this year too as far as I know. The interviews vary slightly from college to college but the overwhelming focus is on science - very difficult, challenging stuff - though there's inevitably an ethics element too. Tell her not to give up if she hits a wall, but to take a deep breath and to carry on trying to think the question through. DS went blank on several occasions but just paused and started again. The Oxford interviews were completely unlike any other interviews that DS had, including Imperial's - far tougher intellectually, though it's important to keep in mind that Oxford is testing the aptitude for becoming a practising doctor too, so don't panic even if tempted!

Any news from Leeds Carrie? Just saw in TSR that one or do have had emails today for interviews. Nothing here so far. DD will be gutted if she doesn't get an interview as she really liked Leeds

Nothing from Leeds yet either. Had a fairly indifferent parents evening, the first ever that was not absolutely glowing for DS. Expecting 3As, predicted A*AA , not really working to his potential. He is besotted with girlfriend and is a changed boy. Not in a good way

My dd got an email today to say she has an interview at Cardiff in January. No news from Leeds though apparently they emailed everyone to say it would take a few days to get the interview emails out?

I'm being a bit negative , he has been such a delight for 17 years, probably just being a teenager now. I think, especially if he gets an offer, he will fit down to some serious work

Decorhate, well done! Exciting news!
Carrie, even the most delightful kids have their moments! Maybe it's tougher on them, and us, because we just don't expect it. Hang in there :)

Oh that's good news Mindgone. My dd was interested in applying there but didn't want to take a chance with only average UKCAT

Great! If you want any practical advice re getting to Nottingham, parking etc pm me as I actually work beside the med school building (for the NHS, nothing to do with the school we just share some space)

Thanks Decorhate and Carrie. It's not until Jan 30th, but parking tips would be useful, thank you.
Any more interviews for anyone else? DS had his Leicester one today. It was MMI, and quite tough! DS really can't tell how it went, but at least he came out smiling, prob nervousness! One girl said it was worse than her Oxford interview! I'm guessing that's just because it was so fast paced.

I can believe that MMI was harder than Oxford. I think my dd found the same. We have Cardiff mid-Jan. no news from Leeds still. I wonder if the change from UKCAT to BMAT has caused problems?
