Do we have a thread already?
ds1 has decided to definitely apply to Oxford to do Biochemistry. He will probably apply to St John's.

Great to hear all the interview news rolling in. Warm congratulations all round. Is anyone on this thread still waiting to hear?

I guess we'll need a new thread very soon!

welshpixie interview selection for biosci is very formulaic, at least it has been for the last few years.

in 2013, from here www.keble.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/subjects/past-feedback/2013BiologicalSci.pdf

"All candidates who met at least one of the following criteria were automatically interviewed:

  • achieved 6 or more A at GCSE and AAA A-level predictions (or equivalent - e.g. IB or Cambridge
Pre-U);
  • the Widening Participation Flag;
  • already achieved the required A level grades.
Candidates who had not taken GCSEs, or had fewer than 6A* grades, were assessed on the quality of other qualifications they had taken (if relevant), their personal statements, their school reports, their predicted/obtained A level (or equivalent) grades, and any other personal circumstances of which we were aware.£
ScreamingSpires · 26/11/2014 18:33

so, basically, anyone with at least 6 A* at GCSE got an interview, plus a few more with specific circumstances. This isn't just Keble, Biosci interviewing is very centralized.

Note this was last year - they haven't published this years info, could bre all change.

ScreamingSpires · 26/11/2014 18:36

Oh, plus the right A level predictions. which is a bitch if your school still refuses to predict A* as I believe some do.

PD6966 · 26/11/2014 18:50

I've only dared to dream about this very day - DS has been invited to interview at Oxford (for English) today. Wishing everyone the VERY best; those who are still nervously waiting and those who are making their Oxbridge journeys soon enough x

webwiz · 26/11/2014 18:54

Well done to those who have heard about interviews today and fingers crossed for those still waiting.

ryansbeat · 26/11/2014 18:55

Haven't posted before but still waiting here - it's so hard to be patient! Good luck to everyone waiting to hear and huge congrats to those who have interviews.

webwiz · 26/11/2014 19:06

MrsBartlet DS has a general interview first with his subject interview straight afterwards, lunch in college and then a written test in the afternoon (sounds tiring!)

Hope you hear something soon ryansbeat

GraceFox · 26/11/2014 19:13

More good news! I'm so pleased for all the dcs who've got interviews lined up.

welshpixie · 26/11/2014 20:07

Screaming thanks for the info. I don't know if she took GCSE's but her IB prediction is good. I have been helping out as her Mum doesn't speak much English. However she speaks 4 languages very well. She is a lovely young lady and Ireally hope it works out for her.

Littleham · 26/11/2014 20:15

Yaay Hocus (have been thinking about you all afternoon - phew) and also PD6966.

Thanks everyone.

MrsBartlet · 26/11/2014 20:57

Agree webwiz, it does sound tiring. So glad I don't have to do it!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 26/11/2014 21:25

Congratulations to one and all! Good luck to your offspring for the interviews.

MadameJosephine · 26/11/2014 22:07

Woo hoo! Great to hear so much good news, congratulations to all mumsnetter DD's and DS's! Keeping everything crossed for good outcomes for these interviews

HocusUcas · 26/11/2014 22:12

Well done PD6966 and absolutely know how hard the waiting is ryansbeat. I wish you well.

Thank you , Littleham , for thinking of us. I actually feel so much calmer now - if he does it he does , if he don't then he doesn't. (Hocus - professor of the bleeding obvious Grin )

Molio · 26/11/2014 23:07

Really extremely pleased for your DC Littleham and Hocus and thank you both very much for your messages of luck :) No news here either way, which I much prefer to bad news. An interview would be great, but I'm erring on the doubtful. That said, I'd still far rather he got the call up than not, for his sake - it would just be better. Oh well.

HocusUcas · 27/11/2014 00:36

Thank you Molio , Still wishing you well. It is very generous of you to be so gracious when you are still waiting on your own DS's decision. HU

MarianneSolong · 27/11/2014 08:11

Offspring very pleased as she has offer from Kings, London.

Littleham · 27/11/2014 09:24

Thanks so much Molio. Really keeping my fingers crossed for your ds.

Well done to your dd Marianne. Smile

BlueStringPudding · 27/11/2014 12:45

Congratulations to all those who have heard about their interviews. Nothing yet for DD, so not looking good, but really just want to know one way or the other now..

AtiaoftheJulii · 27/11/2014 13:16

Blue as far as I know, any particular subject at any particular college sends out its yays and nays at the same time, so I don't think it implies anything negative for your daughter, just that that particular group of tutors are being slow! Hope you don't have to wait too much longer x

Oyster2 · 27/11/2014 15:22

Late to the party but now sharing the pain of those waiting for the interview call! DD's Cambridge college were waiting on BMAT results but they've had those for 3 days now and still no word. Interview would be in week of 8 December so time is getting short. Really hoping for good news. Like Molio's DS a rejection after interview would be much easier for her to deal with I think. Pre-interview rejection would be difficult, partly because she just wants the experience if nothing else.

MissMillament · 27/11/2014 16:53

DD is still waiting to hear. The college website says decisions in her subject will be made on or before December 3. Just wish we knew one way or the other now!
Congrats to all those DC who have offers. What an exciting time.

ryansbeat · 27/11/2014 17:03

Still waiting here.....had a text from DD today and my heart skipped a beat, however she wanted to know what was for supper!!! Fingers crossed to everyone still waiting to hear, hopefully we'll all know soon.
