Do we have a thread already?
ds1 has decided to definitely apply to Oxford to do Biochemistry. He will probably apply to St John's.

She is Molio yes, and I thought Littleham's DD had too, but looks like it is Oxford.

RandomFriend · 25/11/2014 10:59

Littleham I think you would be well within reason to call the admissions officer of the college and ask.

I called a couple of weeks ago and was told that they give "at least a week" notice if called for interview.

It could be that your DD is being considered; it could be that her file has been misplaced; it could be that the invitation has gone into spam or other; it could be that the decision is not to interview but she hasn't yet been informed of the decision.

There is nothing wrong with ringing up to ask, you can use the pretext of checking that everything required has been received. That is what I did, and I was even told the name of the person who was reviewing DD's application.

Littleham · 25/11/2014 11:16

I'll leave it until the beginning of next week RandomFriend as I think Molio is right and the History decisions come out last. Then I'll suggest she calls the college.

HocusUcas · 25/11/2014 11:57

Littleham,
If it's any consolation , DS also applying for same subject , same college , no news.
(or it could be that your DD's and my DS's files are stuck down the back of a bookcase somewhere Smile )

Molio · 25/11/2014 12:08

History isn't last Littleham, but DS2's college last year was the last to give out decisions for history. It was six days notice (because they asked him up a day early). I myself wouldn't dream of calling the admissions office, as they're swamped at this time of year and these notices always come - eventually. My DS would kill me anyhow :)

Littleham · 25/11/2014 12:09

Possibly. I don't think she will get an interview, but it will be nice to know. A shame because she managed to do one mock interview and apparently she managed really well. Mind you, that girl can talk! Grin

HocusUcas · 25/11/2014 12:40

I have my fingers crossed for you , Littleham. As above , still waiting for news (History , Lincoln) here . It is DS's birthday this week and I am just hoping if it's a "no" , he doesn't get it on his birthday.

Littleham · 25/11/2014 12:52

That is so kind of you HocusUcas. Smile Nice to have company for the wait.

Fingers crossed for your son also and I really hope he has a fantastic birthday.

cathyandclaire · 25/11/2014 12:54

There's definitely a pattern Littleham and Hocus, DD's friend also waiting on History and she says many haven't heard about interviews yet ...

AtiaoftheJulii · 25/11/2014 12:55

Going by the St Hilda's page, there are more that HAVEN'T been sent out than have, so no need to be phoning anyone, I wouldn't have thought.

Dd didn't seem too bothered this morning - just thought it would be admin being slow, and said she'd email if she hadn't heard by the end of the afternoon today. Everything else has been by email from them, so she was expecting this to be too. Just an added frustration!

Littleham · 25/11/2014 13:02

Good luck to your dd Atia. Flowers Hope you don't have too fraught a day.

HocusUcas · 25/11/2014 13:04

Thank you for that Cathy - good to know.

Littleham , yes nice to have company. I find I am not too good at this waiting lark. I'd rather just know.

Will no-one think of the parents? Smile

Littleham · 25/11/2014 13:11

Thanks cathy. Smile

welshpixie · 25/11/2014 13:26

Hocus I think it is harder on the parents than the kids. They can always turn round and say it didn't matter and go into hiding, we have to face the GP's and everyone else Grin

Littleham · 25/11/2014 13:37

When you think about it, they have a seriously impressive turnaround. I think I read they have had over 20,000 applications. They only have a month and a bit to assess them all. Must be frantic over there!

If they are tossing applications around the room you may be right Hocus - down the back of the filing cabinet.... Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 25/11/2014 15:03

Email turned up, she is wanted for an interview :-) Which is lovely! And a relief - they interview almost all the prospective classicists, so it would feel crap not to have got one.

bobs123 · 25/11/2014 15:12

Congratulations Atia Smile

Littleham · 25/11/2014 15:12

Brilliant Atia Smile

GraceFox · 25/11/2014 15:38

Smile ditto

MarianneSolong · 25/11/2014 15:47

Glad that more dates, interviews etc are coming through. It's all about waiting isn't it. And getting on with our lives.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/11/2014 15:54

Good news Atia x

DD's friend has been called for interview - Oxford, Biochem I think, there wasn't an exam. DD now of course really wants to know, suddenly v real. This the first Oxford call up of her friends.

RandomFriend · 25/11/2014 16:06

Looks like I am in the minority to have even considered phoning. I did so because I wanted to check that the written work had been received by email.

If all the colleges kept up a page like this, it would be easier!

MrsBartlet · 25/11/2014 16:22

Excellent news, Atia!

RandomFriend · 25/11/2014 16:41

Yes, well done Atia.

AtiaoftheJulii · 25/11/2014 16:59

Oh Random, if you hadn't had an acknowledgement for the written work, I think you were very sensible to phone. And your arrangements are trickier than ours - we live very near Oxford!
