Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Still same here, some days can eat quite a bit other days not so.much. When I've had it before doc gave me omeprazole, which worked took it last time and didn't help at all, so stopped it.
Decided to try it again as I only have four left going to try just one a day for next four days if it makes a difference will try get to docs on Friday to get some more, anyone else had it and helped them?

Hi alwaysbusyandtired you sound very like me! Flowers
I have finally heard today I can have a gastroscopy on Thursday. I know it's not a very nice procedure, but I'm desperate to get it done with now.
The consultant I saw said he really couldn't say without looking, but maybe chronic gastritis, maybe an ulcer.
I saw the GP this morning... she worried me by telling me my QFit stool sample was back and they detected 'microscopic' amounts of blood... but then she also tried to reassure me by saying that as my bloods were fine it 'probably' ruled out more sinister things.
I'm just at my wits end with it really - I feel like I've gone from being the calm, capable one to a neurotic mess!
Did you have a virus / flu / temperature or anything which seemed to kick it off in the first place?

alwaysbusyandtired · 18/02/2020 06:48

Hi Pebble, no I just started feeling sick before Christmas and thought it was a stomach bug that I couldn't shake off. Only went to GP when I started with pain. They thought it was my gallbladder because of where the pain started but its now spread all over my abdomen and it comes and goes. Last week GP started me on Ranitidine as well which seems to be helping with the sickness and indigestion, the Lansoprazole had worked at first but not anymore.

Good luck with the camera procedure, I am also dreading it but just got to the stage that I don't care what they do, just want to know what it is!

Pebble21uk · 18/02/2020 19:13

I thought gallbladder but ultrsound showed no stones and thin lining (apparently it's thick if inflamed), I'm now thinking - or hoping, it's either chronic gastritis, an ulcer or hiatus hernia - something that can be quickly solved with meds PLEASE!

Lizandalfiedog · 18/02/2020 20:01

Was very sick this morning, first thing with bile.
But felt not too bad since, have taken second omeprazole.
Got some nexium control today for when my omeprazole runs out, got fingers crossed tomorrow morning will be better.

Morning everyone,

How are you all feeling?

I’ve felt awful the past two days again. I’m going to the doctor today as it’s been ten weeks now on and off. Please someone tell me theirs has also lasted this long?! I just don’t think it’s normal.

I was going to have a blood test this morning but I feel too sick - probably also with nerves - to get it done so I’m going to book an appointment instead of going to the walk in as then I won’t have to wait around.

I’ve also had diarrhoea for the past two weeks which I didn’t have to begin with, so I don’t know if this is now another bug or the same one. I felt fine all of last week then it just hit me on Sunday again ☹️

Pebble21uk · 20/02/2020 12:24

Hi Melly... I'm on week eight or nine I think! Since 2 days before Christmas! Also been up and down in that time.

I had an endoscopy today (so I've had bloods, ultrasound and endoscopy now) and nothing conclusive! They took some biopsies during the endoscopy but didn't see anything like a hernia, ulcer or inflammation.

Next step is a CT scan... if that's clear then I think I just have to accept that the virus has just messed things up and everything is out of kilter.

Lizandalfiedog · 20/02/2020 13:23

Hi how's everyone doing, fingers crossed think things are slowly getting better for me, am hungry for my dinner and sometimes tea. Although still a bit sick and shaky after eating and first thing it does seem to be very slowly a little less each day, fingers crossed.
Could be the omeprazole working for me, if it does work I'll take for a week then take one every other day slowly wean off them.
Not going to bother with docs just yet as in the past just get told it's s virus and just go wait it out.
Also have gone other way now and struggling to go to toilet lol but I can cope better with that.

Melly1801 · 20/02/2020 15:38

Hi @Pebble21uk

You’ve made me count how long it’s been and I’m actually on week seven today, so thank you! No idea why I thought it was longer so already I’m reassured so thank you 😊

Doctors is at 5pm today! Probably pointless going as I’m not sure what they will say or do, but feel like I need to make them aware it’s still happening.

When will you have your CT scan? Hopefully that will also be clear but I know that won’t give you any answers. I’m feeling sick with anxiety thinking about going to the doctors and I’m not really sure why ☹️

Lizandalfiedog · 20/02/2020 17:20

Hi melly and pebble
Let us know how you both get on at docs, hope you start to feel better soon, had a good day today so far so I'm hopeful. 🤞

Pebble21uk · 20/02/2020 20:13

Hi Liz and Melly

How did the doctors go, Melly? Will they refer you for any further tests?

I hope I'll get my CT scan within about a week. I think it'll worry me if they don't find anything as no anwers and also worry me if they do - I can't win!!

I'm on Omeprazole Liz - have been on 20mg a day for several years after acid reflux. They have now upped it for 40mg a day for the time being. I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to come off it - lots of people take it long term. I've also gone the other way with constipation now... I've tried Lactulose as it's very gentle!

Pebble21uk · 20/02/2020 20:57

I've just been reading about Gastroparesis - interesting as that's post viral.

tobee · 21/02/2020 00:04

Hmmm.. coming back to this thread after some time. Probably just a seasonal virus but yesterday woke up feeling totally unrefreshed and wiped out most of the day. Developed a headache in the evening. Woke up and headache came on, had to sleep. Felt odd about food but had dinner. Then needed to rush to the loo later. Confused Fortunately the headache has responded to painkillers. Took paracetamol because felt like I had very low level fever. Still feel tired and achey. Have had a tiny bit of a sore throat too.

Pebble21uk · 23/02/2020 09:29

How are people doing?

Melly1801 · 23/02/2020 09:36

Hi @pebble21uk, @Lizandalfiedog,

Was just coming on here to reply and saw you had commented Pebble 😊

Doctor wasn’t overly helpful to be honest, think she’s fed up of seeing me now! She asked if I think it’s anxiety related, but I explained the sickness is making me anxious and it’s not anxiety making me sick. It’s probably not helping but it’s definitely not the cause. She’s referring me to somewhere I can’t remember the name of, but she said they may want to put a camera down my throat. I was going to go for the blood tests last week but that would’ve been going to the hospital and waiting god knows how long, so I’m waiting for my appointment at the doctors next week. But doctor said she’s not concerned about the previous results so that’s why she doesn’t know what it is.

Interestingly, I spoke to someone at the gym on a day I was feeling better, and she said her daughter has been off school for six weeks with the same thing!

How are you all feeling? My sickness is now just in the morning. I had three days off work last week, I can’t afford to take any more off plus the fact I only started a while ago so doesn’t look good but I can’t help being ill ☹️ So will have to force myself to go in tomorrow.

@Mimi85 how are you? How’s the counselling going?

Lizandalfiedog · 23/02/2020 12:28

Hi, hope everyone is doing better.
Think I'm getting there, just a bit shaky first thing and after eating, but not as bad as it was, and am actually hungry for mealtimes now, not so bloated feeling after.
At start of week 4, still taking probiotic daily and esomeprazole one daily.

Mimi85 · 23/02/2020 20:16

Hi,
My anxiety is still up & down. I think the strange stomach virus tipped me over the edge & I now have ongoing health anxiety, it's awful.... Just don't want to keep focusing on my body sensations & health.
Melly - I also thought I was feeling sick then anxious but the mind-body connection is strange so don't discount it ...also anxiety can wreck havoc on the body...

Melly1801 · 24/02/2020 07:03

Morning @Mimi85,

It’s done the same to me. I had health anxiety a couple of years ago, and it’s brought it on again. I don’t think being off work has helped as I’ve had too much time to think.

I hope the counselling is helping you and you’ll get out the other side soon xx

Mimi85 · 24/02/2020 07:38

Hi Melly, I can hear how anxious you are reading your posts. Mine spiralled & at one point I would say I was mildly depressed - I saw disease & death everywhere, I just thought really negative thoughts all day. I also believe I lost over 10kg!!! I weighed myself for the first time yesterday and I was 9kg down since Christmas and i've definitely put weight on in the last week or so...
I really hope the counseling works as I hate being so negative... just want to enjoy my life without over analyzing every body sensation !

alwaysbusyandtired · 24/02/2020 11:38

Hi all,

I'm still the same really, the Ranitidine the GP prescribed has been helping with the constant indigestion but just rang for a repeat prescription and they can't get it anymore, typical! So waiting for GP to ring me. I still have the pains which really worry me. Can anyone tell me how long it takes before you get an appt. for the camera test, I haven't had a letter from the hospital but its only been just over a week since the GP referred me.

Thanks

Pebble21uk · 24/02/2020 12:15

Hi always - I think it depends if you have been given an 'urgent' referral or not. If it's an urgent one you should be seen within 2 weeks, if not then I think it can be up to around 6! I was very lucky in that I had private health insurance so was seen very promptly. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm managing to eat a little more - trying little and often. Haven't had nausea for a week or so (touch wood) but have had terrible indigestion. Also trying to distract myself a bit more and get on top of the anxiety.

Waiting for biopsy results from the endoscopy and now consultant has asked for a CT scan and a colonoscopy!! Can't imagine there's much more they can investigate after that!! The colonoscopy came as a surprise as they found a small amount of blood in my QFIT sample... so that's given me an extra layer of anxiety as I didn't feel there was any problem that end!! (No anemia, no raised white cell count etc!)

Lizandalfiedog · 24/02/2020 13:17

Hi everyone, hope your all doing better.
I'm just about eating normally now, but still wake up feeling awful first thing, indigestion and a little sick feeling after eating, but getting there. I always did get indigestion a lot anyway so normal for me, think I just have a very sensitive stomach.

Felt quite sick this morning, but could be cos I'm going on a long trip Thursday to see my neice for the first time with my parents, so could be getting nervous/excited about that, don't like long car journeys.

Hope everyone continues to feel better, it's slow going for me but slow improvement is better than none or being worse. Positive thinking.

starzen · 24/02/2020 22:20

I am so thankful for this thread! Caught a virus from my daughter about 4 weeks ago, and now I have chronic nausea (and a fast heart rate). The doctor thinks it was probably a virus. Or is? She blames anxiety Too, but doesn’t understand that this is CAUSING my anxiety. I’m going crazy over it. Started ranitidine (2 weeks on that) and have been taking meds for the nausea. Struggling to eat. Crying a lot. I just want to feel “normal” again. Please tell me there is hope. Sad

Lizandalfiedog · 24/02/2020 23:53

Hi starzen, yes there is hope I'm into week four and starting to get better slowly.
Have you tried a probiotic drink I've found that to help me.

Hang in there, it does get better just lingers a long time.

Melly1801 · 25/02/2020 07:20

Hi @starzen,

This is week eight for me, things have gotten better on and off but seems to get bad again. I managed a day at work yesterday, but did feel sick on and off. Like you said the anxiety makes it worse too ☹️

I think a few people said it’s taken around eight weeks for them to feel completely normal so I’m really hoping this week will be the last of it.

Hope you feel better soon xx
