Anyone else got this Virus - ongoing Nausea - I have had it for 4 weeks

Just been to the doctor. I have had Nausea now for 4 weeks. The doctor says it is a virus and I should be OK soon. He said that unlike the Norovirus this one can linger for a while. Was wondering if anyone else had anything similar and if so how long did it last. One good thing I suppose I didn't put on any weight over Christmas!!, but I would just love to feel healthy again.

Pebble, I really wouldn't disregard anxiety as a contributor to the awful feelings.
My anxiety doesn't manifest in nervousness or racing heart, infact I don't feel anxious at all. I feel sicky, nauseous, wretching accompanied by loss of appetite...the lack of eating then makes the nausea so much worse as your stomach is eating itself and blood sugar is low. After these feelings I get tension headaches, and endless exhaustion... Like I'm about to get flu... I have told people for weeks that no I cant meet tomorrow as I bet I'm coming down with flu.
I hope the ultrasound goes ok...and your doctors give you stuff to help with all the symptoms until they get to the bottom of it

Lizandalfiedog · 06/02/2020 22:57

Last time I had this bug doctor said the feeling sick was causing anxiety, said it's well known to feel anxious if you feel sick, I'm sure that's what mine is this time too, it's weird, this time of year 2 and 4 years ago had same. One year 3 I think had it before Xmas and last year in September always the colder months.

Pebble21uk · 08/02/2020 11:20

How are people doing?
I had my ultrasound which didn't show anything - good as it rules out some things but still leaves me in limbo.
I think I've managed to eat a little more the last couple of days, but still taking the anti nausea tablets.

I do think anxiety plays a big part Mimi85, I wouldn't disregard it at all - I know my anxiety has been bad over this and probably plays a large part. I think I've just gone nearly 2 months without eating properly and my stomach doesn't know what the hell's going on or how to react properly to food.

I'm finding little and often helps if I can manage it - and taking it slowly. I'm also avoiding caffine, fibre and anything spicy.

Lizandalfiedog · 08/02/2020 11:49

Good that it didn't show anything your scan.
Feeling a tiny bit better each day, just want the anxious feeling to go away I can cope with the rest, I find weekends harder anyway as they seem to go on for ever.

Pebble21uk · 08/02/2020 13:41

I know what you mean! I work part time and the days at home are the hardest at the moment!

Mimi85 · 08/02/2020 15:10

Pebble - if you aren't eating properly, it will be disrupting your digestive system & affecting energy levels. Are there any times of day where you're more hungry than others?
A lot of my nausea was caused by me not eating...
Is there anyone you trust to talk through the situation and formulate a plan?

Pebble21uk · 08/02/2020 20:16

I've managed 3 small meals today Mimi85 which is a first for a couple of weeks. No appetite at all but nausea was better so able to eat. It seems to change day to day though.

I have a consultants appointment on Thursday - If he feels there is no underlying cause and I've just completely wrecked my digestive system after this virus, then I might ask to be referred to a nutritionist to try and get me back on the right path.

Mimi85 · 08/02/2020 21:01

I obviously have little context & no medical knowledge but you may have done what I did - strange, lingering virus which triggers major anxiety with similar symptoms to original virus....
Just to let you know it took me ages to get my digestive system back up & running and I had horrendous indigestion, more nausea, diarrhoea in the meantime but I just had to tell myself it's because it had been completed depleted...

Pebble21uk · 08/02/2020 21:16

I think maybe I tried to run before I could walk... as I got over the original virus and started to eat again I think I tried to get back to normal too quickly and set things off again... not only the nausea but then also the anxiety etc. I had seemed to be doing well, then drank a large coffee quite quickly one morning and it all came flooding back. I'm trying to be much more careful this time!

Lizandalfiedog · 09/02/2020 18:54

Well last night I went to my friends and felt much better, I dared to hope, woke up this morning to it back again but have been a little better I think, just such slow progress, I dread the mornings now.

treedragon · 10/02/2020 12:15

I had something over the weekend. recovering from it today. Bad stomach with dizziness and weakness. Have no appetite. Only feel like dry Ryvitas today to eat.

Lizandalfiedog · 10/02/2020 12:27

How are people today, I'm still ill with it just want to cry now.

Pebble21uk · 10/02/2020 13:05

It's so hard isn't it Lizandalfiedog - it's when you get false hope that things are getting better and then it crashes down again! Do you have any anti-nausea tablets? Could the dr prescribe some. I'm finding Ondansetron are working for me.

My nausea has been better the last couple of days and I'm trying to eat very small and regular meals, but it's really not easy... I'm going for things I can easily digest and going very slowly - stopping if I get any signs it's not going well! Still doesn't always work though!

I'm also sipping all drinks regularly instead of chugging anything!! I think it was gulping the last of a large coffee that set me right back again - so I'm totally off caffine as well.

I've got a consultant appt on Thursday - going privately. I've just printed and sent some of my own notes ahead - if I'm paying £200+ pounds I hope he reads them before I arrive!

treedragon · 11/02/2020 14:00

@Lizandalfiedog - i am still not right. I feel really weak - but i had two days without eating much apart from the occasional Ryvita and water.

Lizandalfiedog · 11/02/2020 15:20

Was feeling a little better, but then after I had dinner felt sick again, but I'm sure I'm not as bad as this time last week, just positive thinking really that it is getting better, I was really hungry for my dinner today too first time in a while.

Mimi85 · 11/02/2020 22:06

I hope you are all on the mend...do keep eating as much as you can... I got so nauseous that I avoided food & it had such bad implications...
Still feeling anxious & jittery which is such an unpleasant feeling

Pebble21uk · 12/02/2020 13:14

Well I managed to eat more the last couple of days, even though it was hard going. Thought I was doing a little better again. Now same has happened as a couple of weeks ago - woke up and just can't face anything today. Tried eating - just made me worse.

Roll on tomorrow and my consultant appointment - can't come soon enough. I'm now wondering about hiatus hernias???!

Mimi85 · 13/02/2020 18:23

Pebble - how did the consultant's go? What did they suggest?

Lizandalfiedog · 13/02/2020 18:54

Yes pebble how did today go? I think I might be getting there, starting to feel hungry again, although still feel bit sick and shaky first thing and after eating, but it's getting a little less each day. Fingers crossed, I deffo think daily probiotic drink has helped.

Pebble21uk · 13/02/2020 19:05

Hi Mimi85 - good in as far as it went, thanks - but again I'm in limbo as he said he really coudln't tell what was wrong without a gastroscopy (endoscopy - camera down the throat - ugh!!) and that will take another 2-3 weeks to get an appointmnent!

He found some really quite painful areas at the top of my tummy though. He said it could maybe be an ulcer but he just wouldn't know until he'd had a look - so I go on in limbo!

What has been interesting is that until lunch today I hadn't eaten since Tuesday night and this morning my tummy felt fine! Then tried a few forkfuls of the inside of a jacket potato at lunch today and instantly gurgling, burping, feeling full and nauseous - so there has to be something going on!

My anxiety has been much less too - so I'm really not sure it's that. I've only felt anxious when I've felt really sick. I don't know if a virus has kicked something off or flared something up or what has happened but I'm thoroughly fed up of this limbo!

How are you doing?

Lizandalfiedog · 14/02/2020 12:40

Think I'm getting better, but feeling really anxious this morning, probably just worrying that I'm never going to get back to normal. Two week mark now, before had it for 4/5 weeks, so at least if it lasts that long I'm halfway there.

Lizandalfiedog · 16/02/2020 12:32

How is everyone doing, I was hoping I'd be over it by now, but still coping with the anxiety symptoms. Could cry, just want my life back to normal. Start of week 3 now. Please pray that this time next week I'll be completely fine.

Pebble21uk · 16/02/2020 13:33

I'm still here Lizandalfiedog and feel very much like you do. I'm really trying to get an endoscopy or CT scan this week as I'm on week 8 now and can't go on like this. My partner says I've cried more in the last few weeks than I ever have done in all our 12 years together... I'm now trying a mixture of food when I can and Fortisip meal replacement drinks just to get some calories into me.

Melly1801 · 17/02/2020 08:12

Hi everyone,

How are you all feeling?

I felt fine all of last week, but yesterday I started feeling sick again. It doesn’t feel like the same nausea as whatever this virus was so I think it must be another bug or something, I still feel bad today so I’m hoping it goes soon. There’s no dizziness with this which is what was the worst with the virus it’s just a sick feeling ☹️ Someone at work had a bug last week so I’m wondering if it was that.

My stool test came back fine so whatever it was wasn’t bacterial.

Hope you’re all on the mend!!

Pebble21uk

Hi Pebble, I have been following this thread last few weeks and my symptoms are just the same as yours. GP is treating me for Gastritis but Ive been back to Docs 4 times now. They have now referred me for camera test so just waiting for an appointment. I too can't stop crying as I am so worried about what it can be. The stress and anxiety is awful. My bloods were ok and I have had an ultrasound which was clear but I am still ill and have pains in different areas including my back now. I have lost 6 pounds in the last 2 weeks (good job I was overweight!).

Hope you get an apt through quickly Flowers
