My nausea is so horrifically awful, every single day I wake up retching, I have actually vomited a few times but for the past week it has just been severe nausea. I can't do anything! I'm plagued by it. It is so much worse when I wake up and when I go sleep I'm literally gagging. H pylori has just come back negative so doc will refer me to gastro (so they said) but still waiting for that call booked for next week. I can't hack spicy food anymore and I'm wondering if I have gastroperiasis or severe gastritis. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? It's ruining everything it's so miserable

Thank you everyone.
111 only just got back to me from when I called them early this morning, of course they say a&e because I'm going on holiday tomorrow... not sure what to do. Not sure much will be done differently tbh.

Are you going abroad @emilylouisex1 or within the UK? Do you have travel insurance?

Only you can decide whether to follow their advice or not but if you're really worried and feel it will impact on your holiday then I'd suggest maybe get packed and ensure everything is ready for tomorrow then head to A&E per the recommendation.

100% it will and I doubt a&e will be able to change it. I'm in a lot of pain and I feel so rubbish but going a&e will do one of two things, either bloods show nothing and get sent home or potentially get admitted and don't go on holiday. - I'm so upset that this has happened whenever I plan to do something I always get unwell 😞

Sorry forgot to add, still going to be within the UK

Hey everyone, just thought I'd update I did end up going a&e as the pain was just horrendous - bloods were good however they said they were not happy that I had not been referred yet for an endoscopy to at least see what is causing this so they've sent an email to GP to ask for an urgent referral for a camera, doc did say my ultrasound last year showed evidence of a passing gallstone...so referred for an ultrasound tomorrow before I go away, just to check again. Doc says he is stuck thinking it's either my gallbladder or gastritis but leaning towards gastritis and does not think anything ontoward is going on here. I feel a lot more at ease and although I feel rubbish, I'm happy I saw this doctor this evening, I felt listened to and understood

That’s a great update op. Glad you are on your way to getting some answers and that they don’t think it’s anything sinister. Hope it can all be sorted very soon.

Happy you got seen I’ve felt awful last two days constant nausea due back at work Wednesday and dreading it but need to try and get back into a routine had 5 weeks off work it’s awful also people commenting things about cancer please don’t do that I’ve had to tell people around me to stop guessing my illness it can make people feel worse and put them in a panic hope you feel better soon OP just remember this isn’t forever everyone has bumps in the road hopefully your on the road to recovery or controlling your problems

Ponderingwindow · 05/02/2024 00:30

While you investigate underlying causes, I offer my personal solutions, not because they will work for you, but because sometimes you just have to try lots of things until you find the right one

eat before getting out of bed in the morning. Just a few bites of a dry carb will do.

sucking on small hard candies throughout the day. Tiniest hint of nausea, pop in a candy. You start producing saliva and it just interferes with the whole process.

typical advice is to avoid carbonation, but I found carbonation made me feel better.

most of the meds the doctors prescribe are just antihistamines. So if needed, take an otc antihistamine. Follow package directions and don’t take more than allowed. Make sure you don’t do this if you are also taking a prescription, it’s just for if you don’t have a prescription available.

elevate the head of your bed slightly with a few of towels under the mattress. This can help if the problem is reflux

emilylouisex1 · 05/02/2024 12:28

@Cantcope3211 it is horrendous isn't it. I'm on my way to go on my holiday now, gonna try my best to not think about it and try and have a good time. But I do agree, I think the one poster who kept commenting about the C word was trolling me. She asked me to check about 3 different cancers within this thread. Not nice at all.

@StandardLFinegan thank you 😊 I'm hopeful this will be sorted soon, had a call from the surgeon last night and she said that she didn't want to do another ultrasound and she thinks it's best we do a stomach MRI to see if it's any of those organs causing my issues so I've got it in a weeks time

Be gentle on your stomach even though it's a boring diet. I spent two days in Gibraltar prone luckily they sold digestive biscuits and bottled water. It was a special wedding anniversary too 🙈

Best of luck with your MRI op. It’s great they are being thorough.

stargaze2 · 05/02/2024 22:08

I'm glad to hear they are going to look into what's making you feel so ill. I mentioned before about gastroparesis, which probably wasn't very helpful because you were looking for ways to make you feel better. I wasn't well and was constantly told it was gastritis. Then gallbladder, had it removed still wasn't well. Had to push for a referral and so glad I did because I saw a great consultant. Who suggested a radiation scan. It's an mri where you eat a small amount of radiation (I had mine on readybrek) so they can track how it moves through your body. It showed my food took longer to digest and was causing the symptoms.
I'm on medication but I changed my diet to food which is easier to digest and tend to eat little and often.
Hope your symptoms ease so you can enjoy your holiday

emilylouisex1 · 09/02/2024 18:11

Thanks for the good lucks everyone. Just got back from holiday and although I did feel sick on and off, it wasn't enough to stop me enjoying myself thank goodness. Was a bit worse today, vomited a few times. Think I'm going to leave these anxiety groups I'm in aswell, someone posted she has the same symptoms as me reflux nausea except she has a headache too and she believes she has a brain tumour. Definitely not helping me at all, I'm pretty sure it must be related to my stomach as my stomach hurts on and off and I do have reflux, I thought those anxiety groups were good for support but boy do I feel more panicky now after seeing that.

Hey everyone, scan results are back already...an urgent appointment has been made for me with a surgeon for next week. I'm so scared. They couldn't tell me anything over the phone but said all they can say is the surgery team asked for an urgent appointment within one week.
My bloods were fine in a&e and a&e doctor said he's pretty sure the MRCP will show nothing.
It's pretty obvious something has shown now isn't it :(

Just to update incase anyone is going through what I am. I had a good last week, barely any symptoms...ate what I wanted. Got my results from the MRCP and it was all normal thank goodness. The surgeon just said he's eager to get to the bottom of it for me so wanted to see me early. He said the last test would be an endoscopy, put me on his list for it, had macaroni cheese homemade and it has caused a flare of bad sickness and reflux so I am thinking it could be certain foods that trigger it as I've had such a good last week, sickness here and there but nothing compared to what it was a few weeks ago so I am putting two and two together

Glad to hear :) I’m off sick from work again as I’m feeling the nausea quite bad still waiting for endoscopy hopefully comes soon for both of us yeah I think it does come with food related cheese makes me very poorly even a small amount same as fried foods can I ask how you cope with work and the nausea? Do you just suck it up I’m struggling quite bad to the point if I even feel tiny amount of nausea I work nights I call up sick as I’m paranoid I’ll end up throwing up in the taxi on the way to work

emilylouisex1 · 26/02/2024 20:02

@Cantcope3211 sorry to hear this 😢 it is horrible I can sympathise. I am very lucky I work from home so I don't need to be out and about for work, I can imagine that isn't easy at all! Mine definitely does come in flares. I have took my anti sickness tablets most days but the sickness the past week was nothing compared to what it is at this present moment. Maybe I should cut a few things out for good.

Saturday night dinner, decided to try to make a beef ragout. What was I thinking. Added onions, garlic, tomato paste, tinned tomatoes. OMG spent Sunday in bed or in the bathroom. Individually those ingredients together can upset me. Together was poison. I was completely empty.

My advice keep a food diary.

Mac and cheese I'd have been very ill

Oh no! You are right, food diary is best I think. I do recall mac and cheese doing this to me in the past aswell, think that's one I'm gonna have to avoid for a good while sigh
