My nausea is so horrifically awful, every single day I wake up retching, I have actually vomited a few times but for the past week it has just been severe nausea. I can't do anything! I'm plagued by it. It is so much worse when I wake up and when I go sleep I'm literally gagging. H pylori has just come back negative so doc will refer me to gastro (so they said) but still waiting for that call booked for next week. I can't hack spicy food anymore and I'm wondering if I have gastroperiasis or severe gastritis. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? It's ruining everything it's so miserable

Try taking Gaviscon double action liquid before and after food, and before any other triggers, for me lying down bought on symptoms so also took it before bed. Needs to be liquid and preferably double action (I was advised this by a consultant so ok to at those levels). Could ask for a different medication similar to omeprezol, I went from 30mg to 45mg of lansoprazol and it made a massive difference. I also find when nauseous constantly sipping ginger tea more effective than eating ginger products.

The bottle I have of gaviscon says no more than 4 times a day of 5-10ml, I took some 2 hours ago and I'm laid in bed honestly just feel like I'm going to vomit. I can feel acid backing up in my throat 😭😭😭😭 and I'm propped up sigh.

I had to see an ear, nose and throat specialist, the acid was damaging my voice box and I kept loosing my voice. The before and after meals and before bed was their advice, and was what they always recommend for severe reflux. They said it's too late to take it once symptoms have started. I started straight away but also checked with GP, who consequently upped my lansoprazole dosage, which has meant I no longer need so much gaviscon. Now I manage on after dinner and before bed most days - and haven't lost my voice since!

justasking111 · 30/01/2024 23:53

At one stage acid was practically coming out of my nose. I got vertigo, six weeks in bed. I wondered if the acid had something to do with that. I still get hoarse something. I gave up on gaviscon advanced. Now have Maalox next to the bed a very old fashioned remedy I know but it works.

Anyone here took Cyclizine? This is the one docs have prescribed I so hope it works

Yes, cyclizine is what I take. Personally, I find it really good.

MassiveOvaryaction · 31/01/2024 06:08

Cyclizine really helped my nausea when I had a kidney infection but it made me really sleepy initially so I'd say take your first dose when you don't have any plans!

Eta - I'm absolutely not suggesting you have a kidney infection because nausea/vomiting was not my only symptom. I don't want to add to your anxiety.

emilylouisex1 · 31/01/2024 06:15

@WolvesDiscoandBoogaloo I'm hopeful for this to work then!

Thank you, I do hope it works. I'm miserable with this honestly.

Anyone know roughly when I should see a difference with omeprazole? Going to start today aswell, I just really want to go a day without feeling like I'm gonna be sick or be sick

It's really hard to say because what works for one person might be different for someone else. But I'd guess three days to a week based on my own experience.

Could be a number of things, if it’s gastritis or acid reflux (GORD) related you’ll need to do a few things.
change diet- if you want to go full on look up Acid Watcher Diet - it will help with inflammation anywhere in the gastric tract.
If not then you at least need to cut out spicy food, coffee, fizzy drinks, alcohol, vinegar, chocolate, citrus. Def do not take ibuprofen or any NSAIDs.
Finish eating 3 hours before bed.
use gaviscon advance after meals/before bed.
All this while you wait for the referral.
I had nausea and stomach issues after covid which led to full on acid reflux. Still battling it now 18 months on. Ppis don’t work for me - diet works better, but it’s hard. I won’t rule out a different ppi but I’m coping atm and an endoscopy ruled out anything nasty.

Thank you. When you say gaviscon before and after meals, is it allowed to be that often? Online says no more than 4 times a day. I notice when I wake up I have a sore throat aswell so I think it's definitely acid related

My diet is like this most of the time these days. It helps enormously.

sore throat in waking is def acid. No point taking gaviscon before a meal (someone else said that) as eating would break the barrier, after meals & before bed. You can take ppi before meals but not 2 hours before you take gaviscon. Timing is complicated! And no tomato sauces either!!

@Goatymum thank you. I feel so upset. Just had my counselling session for anxiety, as I was going there I felt terribly sick but thought it would pass. It didn't. My session lasted 20 minutes before I had to explain to her what's been happening to me and leave. Then went to the toilet and started retching. I'm going to pick up my tablets now I hope they work I can't take this it's ruining my life

You should have retched in front of them.

Goatymum · 31/01/2024 12:25

Good luck with the tablets @emilylouisex1 - they helped me initially but not in long term. Also ask to be tested for h pylori.

justasking111 · 31/01/2024 12:31

The anxiety obsession really pisses me off. Rule out the physical first.

My mother's friend back in the sixties kept visiting GP was told it was neuroticism. She really tried to keep going. Suddenly deteriorated so admitted to hospital. Mum visited, she was a nurse, said she was dying. No-one listened. Autopsy showed she had brain cancer.

She was in her thirties.

emilylouisex1 · 31/01/2024 12:40

@justasking111 😂😂😂😂 I don't think retching infront of them would have went down well hhahahaa

Exactly. I suffer terribly with anxiety but I'm 90% sure this is not just anxiety.

Thank you. I've took my first dose of it now and at the moment I don't feel any different, I took it about 30 mins ago, I imagine it will take a few hours to work I assume.
Can I take omeprazole at the same time as this? I forgot to ask pharmacist when I went to pick it up, I imagine you can as I was prescribed both but not sure how far apart if there is a distanced time needed
