Nab i have replied to your email just now, thanks.
they have to agree to funding, at the big meeting they said there were three options
Steve to stay at the hospice
Steve to go to a mental health unit
Steve to come home with 24hour care package.

to be honest i was shocked that they offered that given that before they were only offering 4 hours a day and the SW said that was a lot of hours.
the criteria for continuing care covers all areas and the social worker has said that Steve scores highly on many areas but the physical and mobility needs are not so high, of course that will change as time goes on.
i am off to see steve soon as the consultant is coming to see him i think she will tell him about the chemo and i am not sure how he will take it.

just an aside really, lilredwg, did you know it is actually the saliva that people who are allergic to cats are actually allergic too. The cats lick themselves all the time so it sticks on the fur, so would still be on the skin I just thought i'd share that, not like its relevant in any way.

phew what a day, went into see steve he was pain free but his right side is causing some problems for him he isn't able to do much with it so needed a lot of help to sit up today.
the consultant came to see us no new news really, but she did say if i wanted to have a chat with her to come and find her, so i went to have a chat with her, she told me that she had spoken to steves mum and that steves mum had openly told her that her wish was to have steve at home with her, the consultant asked her how she would manage and then asked her if she would be able to sit with him 24/7 she admitted that she couldn't, the consultant explained to her that steve is still saying that he wants to die and that they think he will look for an opportunity to kill himself and how would she deal with that, steves mum said that steve had promised her he wouldn't do anything silly, the consultant told her that steve would do it again as he has told her that he would, the consultant doesn't think that steves mum is taking things on board at all and i have to agree, Steves mum also said that our kids take little looking after still at least the consultant has the measure of her now.

sleep what is that then? i am ok once i get of to sleep as i can get a couple of hours but my mind never seems to switch off.

Not surprising that you have lost weght OJ, all that nervous energy plus LOs keep you mighty busy.

i didn't ask about timescales i am not sure that i want to know and i don't think steve will want to know

I understand. Just want them to get a move on with your 24 hr care!

steve had his assessment today for contining care funding we will know by friday if it is sucessful, the consultant said if not sucessful then they will appeal

I think that's wise about the timescales - talking about a timeline which may or may not come into being wouldn't get you any further with the things you need to do would it? The only certainty is that it would be very distressing for you and Steve. Good that the doctor has spoken to mil. I have to say I feel very angry with your mil - how dare she be so stubborn and selfish and blind to what her son and his family really need! It is of course terrible that she is facing this awful situation - but you are all facing it together and she needs to see that. However, me scowling at the pc is not very useful so instead I will be praying that her heart might be transformed and her eyes opened to the reality of the situation.
