don't want to intrude but I am an OT and if you want any advice on anything OTish just let me know.
I work with people in your situation and am surprised the hospital bed has not been forthcoming. In some areas things (equipment or care) are funded 'without prejudice' whilst fudning decisions are being made to stop the patients and their families suffering due to the delays.

If they say no, tell them there are several hundred million MumsNetters who will be round to help them make the right decision.

Thats interesting so why have they not used the 'without prejudice'
i am looking at beds for steve ikea do the wooden slats and they do an electric one, so do i buy something like that or get bog standard bed and struggle?

i have put a new photo of steve up so you can all focus on me getting him home.
i have found a bed in ikea that has electric wooden slats, so that steve will be able to sit up,don't know if to go for that or let the carers struggle which will hurry up the hospital bed.... maybe

Maybe - Get the Ikea electric bed and hide the control from the carers so that they think it's a normal bed!

i will wait until todays decision before doing anything about the bed. don't want to tempt fate.

No advice about beds, except that as was said earlier, if you start down the road of self-funding even one piece of equipment you might set a precedent?

Still can't believe the awful delays in getting Steve home
