Anyone else have a very weird severe flu like illness?

DH and I have come down simultaneously with a strange flu-like illness. It's an URTI but we've both been running over 38c for 3 days now and just getting worse. Repeated negative LFTs. Flu vaccine +
I'm hearing of some weird non-covid flu like illness sending people to a&e (apparently swabbing neg for RSV and influenzas too). Has anyone seen much of this? This is extremely bad.

Me .
I've been in bed since last Friday. Had to ring 111 early hours Sunday and they sent ambulance with a nebuliser.
I've been on antibiotics for 4 days which haven't worked and now I've been given doxycycline and steroids but I'm testing negative for covid .

ArrrMeHearties · 01/12/2022 14:40

Still not over this after over a week. Negative covid tests for dh and I. He is currently on day 3 and if anything getting worse

Yellowishes · 01/12/2022 14:42

@ArrrMeHearties @stillvicarinatutu did you have a high fever? How long did it last?

I currently have it. Started early hours Sunday - Monday. Shivering and awful body aches, temp of 38+ and no apetite for days. Been off work all week, was hoping to feel better today but still feel as rough

thenewduchessoflapland · 02/12/2022 07:38

Yes;all 6 of us in our household have come down with this and it's affected everyone differently. My DD had to have antibiotics, steroids and an inhaler for it.It's been 3 weeks today since I came down with it and I'm still coughing slightly, still ache all over and I'm absolutely exhausted;the fatigue is awful. My DH is also still struggling with the fatigue from it too.

Everyone did LFT but all negative,I did two, both negative but I also lost my sense of teste and smell for several days.

My friend thinks this is a new evolved strain of covid.

Nottodaty · 02/12/2022 07:42

I’m on day 10 & finally feel better - still very tired but definitely better!

High temp & feeling like hit by a bus! Muscles aches & sickness. Negative lfts, it was the worse I’ve felt for a while! My 13 year old who is very rarely ill also knocked down with it, she spent 3 days in bed.

Jewel1968 · 02/12/2022 07:48

Saw a thread on Twitter from someone with similar. People were sharing stories of people with similar symptoms to you testing negative to COVID but eventually in hospital testing positive. People thought tests were not picking up new strain. More sophisticated tests are picking up.

Others (including doctors) were saying viruses are having a field day - something to do with lockdown - and that there are some nasty complex non COVID viruses doing the rounds.

fedupofthiscoldffs · 02/12/2022 07:50

I had it last week. Absolutely floored me.
Just a bit over it now 9 days after it started just a bit sniffy with no end of snot

chillinwithmygnomies · 02/12/2022 07:51

We had it last month, started with me then the whole house went down with it apart from one dd. Lasted about 2 weeks but still feeling tired from it now.

W0tnow · 02/12/2022 07:54

Yes. We’ve all had it. You can get combo RFT here. Covid plus influenza A and B. I tested my daughter who was the worst hit. Positive for influenza A. I guess we all had it. Hadn’t got around to getting flu vaccine yet. Won’t make that mistake next year.

MissMarpleRocks · 02/12/2022 07:54

I’m 4 weeks in. GP diagnosed walking pneumonia. Temperature this morning was 38.3. 2 lots of antibiotics & now an inhaler.

I’m back there today for another check up - I’m immunosuppressed. They’ve been seeing me twice weekly & speaking to me mid week on the phone in case it turns.

Negative LFT & have had flu jab & 4th booster.

Im so over this. Just want to feel normal.

AntlerRose · 02/12/2022 07:57

My son is two weeks into a virus thats been high temps, cough and stomach upset.

Our friends been up to A&E with a similar virus affecting his breathing. He was told its probably flu and to go home.

LittleBlueLadenDownWithDew · 02/12/2022 08:14

I had similar but was diagnosed with influenza by GP. Wasn't swabbed for specific strain though, he went by my symptoms. Felt absolutely awful, temp went up to 41 at one point. Normally get my flu jab but didn't get round to it. Maybe a silly question, but if you have had flu recently can you still get the flu vaccine? Or us it like covid where you have to wait a certain length of time? I know I'll likely hopefully have some immunity to the strain I got, but worried about catching another variation of flu so would really like some protection from the vaccine

ScrollingLeaves · 02/12/2022 21:37

I have this. The whole family has been getting it.

I feel awful, plus extremely depressed. Does anyone else have depression with this?

gamerchick · 02/12/2022 21:41

Yeah it was horrible. Still feel tired weeks on, like bones are heavy.

colouringindoors · 02/12/2022 23:57

A lot of these sound like flu - which often leaves you feeling depressed @ScrollingLeaves

I'm finally over a virus lasting two weeks, no fever but awful throat, headache, cough and fatigue.

Relieved you are still alive! Lost track of your thread and have rarely been as worried for a stranger. Hope you recover soon!

Whitwhit · 03/12/2022 00:22

Yes - nearly two weeks now, and still exhausted, with a crappy cough.
It’s very tedious.

MissMarpleRocks · 03/12/2022 01:40

4 weeks now. Went bank to GP today & more antibiotics- have had already doxycycline & amoxicillin. Now have co amici clav antibiotic & steroids. Strict instructions to ring for ambulance if I get worse. The pain in my back is yuck.like elephant is sitting on my chest. Oximeter readings ok though 🤞

NoSquirrels · 03/12/2022 01:46

My household has had this in past month, as has my ILs and a lot of others we know. We got no + Covid tests but some we know have had.

I’m usually pretty resilient and was in bed for best part of a week, then 10 days to feel mostly human again. Sounds far less serious than others on this thread but it’s been the most unwell I’ve been in probably 2 years.

JamSandle · 03/12/2022 01:57

Me! It's been a week.

VeryScary · 03/12/2022 02:51

Me, my husband and my mum. Can’t remember last time I felt this bad. My husband is one of those annoying people who never get ill but it’s hit him like a train. And yes to depression with it - that hit me totally out of the blue last night.

Eurydice84 · 03/12/2022 02:53

I am currently awake in bed with over 39 DG fever and a deep cough I haven't been able to shake for three days. I tested for COVID four times and all negative.

Eurydice84 · 03/12/2022 02:55

Oh and I had my flu jab last month!

MissMarpleRocks · 03/12/2022 03:07

Yes same. Had 4th vaccine & booster. Oximeter levels are now around 90-94. Back pain. Temp of 38.6. Can’t sleep. But not feeling as rough as the early evening.

Really hoping the steroids kick in by end tomorrow.

May go down & make hot drink.

GP said it can take around 6 weeks to feel better. I’m week 4. Don’t know which was worse this pneumonia or covid.
