Anyone else have a very weird severe flu like illness?

DH and I have come down simultaneously with a strange flu-like illness. It's an URTI but we've both been running over 38c for 3 days now and just getting worse. Repeated negative LFTs. Flu vaccine +
I'm hearing of some weird non-covid flu like illness sending people to a&e (apparently swabbing neg for RSV and influenzas too). Has anyone seen much of this? This is extremely bad.

Yes DD and I both had this. She ended up in hospital (thankfully fine now). I eventually tested positive for Covid but only after I was mostly better!

dinkydoodah · 26/12/2022 12:48

Im on day 10 and still feel awful. Symptoms seem to keep changing. Started with sore throat and earache, felt tired, hot/cold and shaky. Then I had a cough and felt breathless with nausea. Now it’s all in my sinuses so I have headache, toothache and earache all at once. Can’t taste anything and feel exhausted.I don’t think I’ve ever been so ill for so long.

Seeriously · 26/12/2022 20:16

Just want to come back and say that I would say I fully recovered after 15 days! So even though it feels like it is never ending and is just dragging on I am sure the light is at the end of the tunnel for all of us.

Ilovehamandtoast · 27/12/2022 04:28

Goodness this thread is frightening. I hope everyone is on their way to recovery...

I've had a cough working on me this last couple of days. Tickly throat. I have really bad chronic pain and exhaustion so I'm unable to judge the source of those fluctuations, cause I'm already at rock bottom. Just feeling a bit nervous. I had covid 5 weeks ago too so it's all confusing.

JanT2004 · 27/12/2022 14:28

Our whole family started with this 5 weeks ago after meeting up for 2 year old grandsons birthday. It totally wiped my and dh out for 2 weeks and main symptoms continued for at least another week. I have been to docs twice because of terrible rib pain on one side but told it's muscular from coughing. It's still not improving, hurts every time I breath in or cough ( still got a slight tickly cough) I can't lie on my back and laughing is really painful.

Wellthankyou · 27/12/2022 15:56

I have had this for days now ,started off as dry irritable cough ,then rib pain now coughing up so much crap of every colour and bloodstained at times ,wheezy etc !
Shall attempt to speak to GP tomorrow!
Hope everyone else feeling better soon .

PritiPatelsMaker · 27/12/2022 16:00

@Wellthankyou if it's bloodstained I think that you need to ring 111.

Jewel1968 · 27/12/2022 18:39

I have a rattle in my chest but when I cough nothing comes into my mouth so I can't see the colour. I am hoping to get doc appointment tomorrow and am wondering what they can do. I saw them a week ago and doc told me it was too late for tamiflu but to come back if I still had symptoms in 5 days. In the meantime I have had conjunctivitis but thankfully drops from chemist cleared it up. Like others I cough so much I wee myself and I don't usually have problem with pelvic floor.

So any idea what the doctor can do or what I should ask. I know antibiotics are a possibility but as I don't know colour of phlem they can't know it's bacterial. Are cough suppressants a good or bad idea?

I have tried all OTC treatments.

Of course I probably won't get an appointment.

Ok so my associated tooth pain had morphed into a full blown abscess! Severe toothache yesterday which I’d been thinking was my awful sinuses but this felt much more painful. Kept me awake last night and then this morning the right cheek is swollen like a hamster. No emergency dentist appointments and walk in centre at capacity so will have to try in morning. I’m in agony even with alternating ibuprofen with zapain ( left over from DH back pain issue.

itwasthegintalking · 27/12/2022 21:16

Day 9 here and 3/4 way through oral antibiotics and steroids. Have the most awful wheezy cough, not productive at all and feel breathless and just plain fed up. Saturations have improved from 93% to 96-97%. Getting really down now.

Oh no. Have you tried rubbing since raw booze on it with your finger. Clove oil is good but you have to be very careful not to burn skin.

I usually do salt water rinses too. 💕

Moonlightdust · 27/12/2022 23:52

Nearly 3 weeks of it now - still on antibiotics course for the sinusitis that developed during virus. All family still have the annoying lingering cough - worse at nights/mornings. Just want to feel myself again!

I’ve tried alcohol which helps but not sure it’s recommended 😩 honestly I’m desperate right now

Try strapping your ribs up with bandages, not too tightly obviously, but I’ve found it helpful with bad rib pain from too much coughing, in the past

StealingYourWiFi · 28/12/2022 11:04

Had a scratchy throat and headache the past couple of days. Todays the worse and my ears feel bunged up plus snotty.

Thought this feels familiar and took an LFT. Faint positive. Gutted as I have surgery scheduled next week and I have already delayed it in September when I last had covid but better to be safe.

purplecorkheart · 28/12/2022 11:08

Yes, started with a scratchy throat and runny nose and generally feeling awful. Two days later it is moved to chest also had awful pain at pain of head near neck. Two weeks later I still have an awful cough at night to the point I cough so much my nose starts bleeding. Covid tests twice daily for a week negative (costed a fortune), flu negative.

Meltinthemiddle · 02/01/2023 12:12

It's been 2 weeks now still got this tickly cough DD riving me insane now 😭

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 02/01/2023 12:14

6 weeks tomorrow and it NEEDS TO JUST PISS OFF!!!!!

SaturdayGiraffe · 02/01/2023 13:05

One course of antibiotics and 13 days later I am not feverish anymore but still clearly ill. Sneezing, coughing constantly, weak, no appetite. I don’t see an end to it.

SaturdayGiraffe · 02/01/2023 13:07

Oh yes, the sinusitis is full on still.

Meltinthemiddle · 02/01/2023 14:18

I'm just trying to take the decorations down and feeling out of breath 😭. Honestly wondering if it was COVID even though I tested negative but I feel so weak still.

littlenickyy61 · 02/01/2023 15:02

Get checked for pleurisy those were my symptoms

littlenickyy61 · 02/01/2023 15:03

Sorry that was meant for the person who had pain breathing in etc

Bighugs88 · 02/01/2023 16:10

@OnTheRunWithMannyMontana

Sorry to hear that you are unwell, but for 6 weeks 😥you must be so tired of this. I have recovered after 2.5 weeks but just feel very tired and weak. The symptoms were dragging on, but my daughter was prescribed antibiotics in the end as she developed a chest infection. The 2.5 weeks were literally like crap and I became so anxious with the symptoms and just wanted to feel normal again.
I think its best to see the gp asap as 6 weeks is a very long time, sending you hugs, look after yourself x
