OOOH Came down to earth with big bump on Friday, thought could pick up the running after a few months break as go to the gym. Day 1 of training said run 20 mins, 20 very tired slow and wheezy mins later had only gone 3ks . So have resigned myself that will need to train if going to run 10ks in 10 weeks time.
Day 2 this morning, ran 30 mins along beach. Had to have a little lie down when got back as could still hear/feel ounding sound in my head. Mind you fantastic, 7am sun streaming through clouds mist still lingering in clusters along beach and 3 surfers dotted along horizon. While I'm not convinced it's doing me much good at the moment it was sure better than watching little einsteins with the boys. clap clap clap, faster faster shouts ds2 (maybe I should take him with me to help me go faster

Right ladies. I think I am back both physically and mentally AND......injury wise too
Been pain free for about 5 days, the new shoes arrived and I have a new mp3 player which is waaaaay more swish than my tiny supermarket bought one.

DH has loaded it up for me with 'running music' Don't know what is on there. DH has a real wide and varied taste in music but not sure that he would know running music if it slapped him in the face

popsycal · 26/08/2007 09:29

HUraaaaaaay!!!!!!

2 mile, pain-free (pretty much) in around 20 minutes!!!

New shoes were fab - my feet were much happier being allowed to roll in a little bit. I think they are meant to do that lol.

I went the opposite way around my usual 1.7 mile loop on purpose so that I was troubled by getting to mile/km marker points and didn't take my stop watch out either.

Got to the end of my loop and decided to run the short distance home as well. Just over 2 miles in approximately 20 minutes - which I think is pretty good going, all things considered!

The sun is shining, my children are behaving. The house is a tip - but who cares. We are off to the beach.
Have a lovely day, ladies!

Hooray popsycal! Happy for you

Harrogatemum · 26/08/2007 16:08

hello - can I join please? Got back into running again about 6 weeks ago and have built up from 1.5 miles to 4 miles now (sorry not sure what that is in kms, is that the favoured measure of distance on here?). I live in a village and every way out of it is up a hill so its always a bit tough to start with! Try and go about 3 times per week where possible.

I have tried to read as much of the thread as I can but with the DTs (2.9)and DD (9 months)....it may take me some time! Anyway I was wondering if anyone else uses the NIke plus Ipod thingummy, I got one recently and think its brilliant for motivating me to go faster!

Anyway hope to pick up some good tips and motivation from you all!

popsycal · 26/08/2007 20:07

Welcome Harrogatemum! I work in miles most of the time . I like old money best

I have a plan for this week
Next session: 2 miles again
then: 1 mile timed then run/walk 1.5 miles as I feel fit
then: 2.5 miles/25 minutes - which ever is the quickest

mamamoo · 26/08/2007 21:44

Welcome Harrogate mum - I have a nike plus as does veggiemummy. See my post below there is a challenge on RW you could join in. I did a 10k today but it calibrated at 9.6k so I was a bit peeved about that. Did 55m31s so my times are slowly improving. Only thing is it was a small race ...mainly club runners and there was NO-ONE running around me ...it was awful felt like I ran the race alone!

mamamoo · 26/08/2007 21:44

ps good to see you back and with a plan Popsy!

Harrogatemum · 27/08/2007 10:51

thanks for the link!

Just did 2.5 miles this morning, and wish I hadnt as my legs felt like concrete, should have had a rest day!

Still I cant go again until Friday due to childcare issues etc! So at least my legs can get back to normal by then........

popsycal · 27/08/2007 11:43

Harrogatemum - are you following any sort of training plan to get you back on track and build up your mileage?
Can I recommend to Cancer reserach and bupa 5k and 10k plans if you are not

Harrogatemum · 27/08/2007 19:12

ooh thanks popsycal - no not following any kind of programme, I just try and go as often as I can and sometimes do a short run (2.5 miles) and sometimes do a longer one (5 miles). Will look into the ones you mention!

Veggiemummy · 27/08/2007 19:24

oh no i shouldnt even be on here i haven't been running at all now for well over a week. Mamma i have sent an email to join the nikeplus challenge hopefully that will spur me, going home to Oz in about 3 weeks and want to look fab when i get there, must run, must run.

at least i'm doing the yoga a bit more regularly.

chonky · 27/08/2007 21:20

Can I join this thread too please? I'm doing a couple of 10Ks in Sept, and then two 1/2Ms in Oct, and after that curling up somewhere and lying still for a long, long time

Harrogatemum · 28/08/2007 09:05

veggiemummy whereabouts in aus are you from? Me and DH and the kids are off next year.......he's an Aussie and been here 12 years now - he's had enough!

Celery · 28/08/2007 16:10

Just adding this back onto the threads I'm on. Hadn't run for three weeks due to illness, which has been so frustrating, as a beginner! I tried a couple of times, but I obviously wasn't up to it, but finally felt okay today and have just run/walked for 5/3 minutes, for 30 minutes in total. It was okay, I'm relieved I didn't have to start right back to running/walking at 1 minute intervals! I've obviously retained some level of fitness. So hoping to build up quickly now to where I was before I got ill, and beyond. My first goal is just to be able to run for 30 minutes straight.

I also tried out my new shoes today, Asics Foundations, and they are wonderful

popsycal · 28/08/2007 17:38

2.2 miles in 20:43. Right leg slightly twinging but fine

This might seem a daft question (especially from a teacher.... ) but I am trying to calculate average mileage (ie the time per mile pace) but can't work out an easy way to do it with the minutes and seconds issue....is converting it all to seconds t average it the easiest way or is there a special calculator online anywhere

popsycal · 28/08/2007 17:57

I found what I wanted here: calculates pace

popsycal · 28/08/2007 17:59

9:40 mis per mile pace average

chonky · 28/08/2007 18:10

That's fast popsycal

popsycal · 28/08/2007 19:17
Veggiemummy · 28/08/2007 20:29

Still no running and no chance now until the weekend as DH away for work until friday night. cant even go to yoga class tomorrow

harrogate i'm from a town outside sydney called Mulgoa, it's in the foothill of the blue mountains. If you DH is from Sydney he would say i was a westy. will you be going back there for good?

DoubleBluff · 28/08/2007 20:40

Oh bugger I ma really feeling my enthusaiam waning despite a 10k in less than 2 weeks.
Have a really bad sore thraot and feel so tired all the time.
Need a big kick up the bum, feel free anyone!!

Harrogatemum · 29/08/2007 13:12

hey veggiemummy, no hes from Grafton in northern NSW but lived the last 5 years of his time in Aus in Brisbane and thats where his family is from.

Think we will go thinking it will only be for 2 years and see how it goes....then make a decision.

Anyway back to running - cant go until Friday BOOO

And popsycal - my fastest pace has been 9.38 per mile but usually its about 9.50 or so.

mamamoo · 29/08/2007 13:52

Going stir crazy here....dd has chicken pox....wanted to write some urgent work reports now whilst she is sleeping but guess what no sleep today! Aaagggh

Did a short gym session last night - 20 min warm up and 6x90sec fast bursts

10k coming up on Sun...who else has one then? may do one more short easy run this week then that is that!

DoubleBluff · 29/08/2007 17:54
