May I?

OP posts:
scattyspice · 29/08/2007 18:56

Can I join.

Need inspiration and motivation. You all sound pretty keen.

I used to run with a local club (pre kids), did a few races and even a slow marathon.

But haven't run regularly since first pregnancy (nearly 5 yrs ago!!)

Usual problem of finding time. I have a 2yr old and 4 yr old and work PT.

When do you girls do your running and how far / long do you go?

Veggiemummy · 29/08/2007 18:59

oh nice i lived in Brisbane for about 3 years before coming over here, in New Farm. I'm sure you will like it over there, but i guess it is a big move away from family for you. good for running over there along the river.

Veggiemummy · 29/08/2007 19:56

sorry that was for Harrogatemum.

welcome scatty- i usually do triathlon but slowing back to almost nothing since my last race. I used to do Tri's and 10kms and one marathon before my son was born, for the 2 years since he was born i have done a couple of tri's and 2, 10kms but it is a lot harder than i thought it would be to get back to what i used to be. and lately dont seem to have the inclination.

i'm lucky my DH is as accomodating as possible so i do get the oportunity to train, but when i have the time, i'm not always up for a run. would be nice one day to be able to just go when i want to, oh well will be a while until that can happen so for now i think i just need to get my butt into gear and get running (and yoga-ing).

so for now scatty to answer your question i do 10km runs as often as possible and if i'm feeling lazy (very much lately) i do 5km. I usually do a 10km in about 55min and a 5km in 27min. although those times may be a bit slower at the mo.

scattyspice · 29/08/2007 20:17

Thanks Veggiemum. Its getting used to not being able to just go for a run spontaneously isn't it?

I find it difficult to stay motivated when I don't have a goal or regular times to run.

I'm going to try and run early morning before DH goes to work. Can probably do about 20mins.

popsycal · 29/08/2007 20:39

scatty - welcome
Can I recommend the race for life and bupa 5k training plans to get you mileage back up
Then onto the 10k plan

Veggiemummy · 29/08/2007 23:37

mammamoo i'm on that nikeplus challenge, does it start 1st sept?

scattyspice · 30/08/2007 08:45

Thanks Popsycal, I have a look. I def need a plan (LOL).

Didn't manage an early run this am as worse than usual night with DD (this is another problem eh?).

Will try when DS gets home.

mamamoo · 30/08/2007 09:13

Feel like a zombie this am DD up all night scratching like crazy.

Yes veggie challenge starts on 1st Sept. Anything to keep the motivation up! Still having probs with my nike plus under calibrating - annoying as it records my fastest 10k as about 1h 10 (from training runs) and yet I did 55mins something last week.

Veggiemummy · 30/08/2007 10:09

I know what you mean i am sure i am doing 5km faster than it is saying, oh well it gives me an idea.

unfortunately when i am in australia for the 2nd half of the month i dont think i will have my laptop with the itunes link thing to down load my data, is it possible to just log in on any computer and download the runs. DH doesnt get to australia until the 1st oct so won't be able to download using his laptop in time. I dont think it is worth taking my laptop just to download my runs in time for the challenge.

OOhh that reminds me for those couple of weeks i will be staying with my parents in a country town in QLD, will be so nice running with nobody around in the countryside.

mamamoo · 30/08/2007 11:23

Sounds like the RW challenge thingy will be an ongoing thing

If I was you I would forget about it til you are back and just upload all your runs then (will still be loaded onto the challenge so you will still get a virtual position...I think?)

I would be tempted to dump the ipod and enjoy the fab Aussi scenery, especially if you are not over that often. Just enjoy running....and the freedom...I take it you will have more opportunity to run with your mum being on hand to babysit?

Bet you still find a way to get online to report though!!

DebitheScot · 30/08/2007 22:16

Woohoo I went for a run. First time I'd been out for nearly a month coz of being away and my calf still being sore. It only stopped being sore a few days ago so I went out last night. Took it easy and just did about 25 mins but I did actually feel ok at the end of it and could probably have done another 10 minutes. I stopped a couple of times to stretch out my calf as I could feel it beginning to tighten and that must have done the job as it's fine today. Had my new (and expensive, ssh don't tell dh that they were £70) shoes on and they felt really good. Much better than my old trainers.
So now I just need to build up my time and distance to get up to 10k in 6 weeks. Aaarrgghh.

Veggiemummy · 30/08/2007 23:02

well done Deb, 6weeks is heaps of time, esp now your all keen and not too sore.

scattyspice · 31/08/2007 19:19

Managed a short run today when DH got home. Must try to do this every other day.

Agree Deb, 6 wks is ideal time scale for 10K training.

Wallace · 01/09/2007 18:33

Got my 10k tomorrow and I am dreading it.

I am so tired (ds2 not sleeping) and have zero energy. I haven't run since tuesaday and that was a short crap one

Help!

mamamoo · 01/09/2007 23:15

good luck Wallace. I have mine too.

Know the feeling re tiredness DD has CP so no sleep for me this week...and have been babysitting a friends kids tonight...must get myself to bed, I pick up a friend for the race at 7am tomorrow (starts at 9am and we have an hours drive to get there!)

I haven't run since Tues either ...but isn't that tapering and meant to be a good thing?

Veggiemummy · 01/09/2007 23:30

goodluick wallace and mommamoo you'll have well rested legs and at worst it's a 10km run on closed roads with lots of company.

Wallace · 02/09/2007 07:07

Thanks Feeling a bit more positive this morning. Could it be something to do with not being up at 5am

Good luch mamamoo (sympathies re the tiredness) xxxx

Well done!

62 minutes here which was a PB (first 10k ) and so much better than i had expected - my goal was 70-75 minutes

DoubleBluff · 02/09/2007 20:14

Well done both of you!
Good times all round.

popsycal · 02/09/2007 20:19

Well done!!!!

I had a lovely run up in NOrthumberland. Very hilly and managed 5K exactly in just under 32 minutes. I won't be doing my 5k next weekend but may still go up and have a look !

My legs are pretty good
At last!

popsycal · 02/09/2007 20:20

DoubleBluff · 02/09/2007 20:30

Shame. I am tempted to pull out of mine as I know I haven't done enough traning. HAve just got back from a boozy wedding away, I will do it for the experence but do not anticipate beating my time from my last race. (1hr02 mins - sam as Wallcae)
