Hello (hopefully) to Voodoo, Worley and Jennster!!

OP posts:
Jennster · 05/02/2007 22:49

Email organix voodoo. I complained to them about how they advertise baby food from 4 months, and it took them so long to reply, they sent me a massive box with about £15 worth of stuff, 5 £1 vouchers and a load of money off vouchers.

Was in here earlier, wrote a massive post and flipping well lost it. Bad night last night in AandE with DD who cartwheeled from the top of the stairs and ended up with not a scratch on her body. I was shaken and upset and then knackered, she was crawling everywhere, walking everywhere and charming old ladies and drunks in the dept...and they DON'T whizz you through if you are a baby. Got back at 1.30am.

I do blw. The whole point of it is you don't do anything extra or special for the bubs, but in reality I find I am. Today dd has eaten almost precisely nothing. Dried fruits like apricots prunes are brill. Do porrige for first thing in the morning and she wolfs it down. 3oz milk, 5 heaped tablespoons of porrige oats, 2 mins in microwave. It's really thick, so spread it on a plate to cool, and then hand it to the bubs. It sort of turns flapjacky but not crispy.

I have found Kallo low sodium veg stock cubes useful when in a hurry. I thought cutting out salt from my diet would be really difficult, but have hardly noticed. Don't think I was using that much after all. It creeps in in bread (REALLY salty) sauces, cheese etc. babybel cheese is a really useful out and about cheese though!

VoodooWizbit · 06/02/2007 16:33

oooooooooh good advice jenn...

i love the porridge idea as i had kind of given up because it seemed too thick and hard for her to eat...

she likes weetabix things.

I find doing BLW has led to me eating more veg, as I ve bought loads for her. She loves plum tomatoes, and I leave the seeds in, surely she couldnt choke on them! (baby plum toms) I bought baby mushrooms for her today too,,,,not sure best way to cook them tho? fry in butter/boil in water? or leave raw???? well done you cutting down on salt, I adore it too much, but I never add it to cooking stuff, MIL does, she adds loads to carrots on the hob etc. I dont see the point, as people put their own on at the table, surely??

I still feel dizzy a lot, but no earache. Ive prob got a brain tumor.
I am a total hypochondriac.

VoodooWizbit · 06/02/2007 16:46

also...glad your bub is OK.
poor thing, bet it frightened her! she is a lucky girl.

Glad you are ok too, it's always worse for the parents!!

I just complained to Organix about their grammar!!

VoodooWizbit · 06/02/2007 16:47

I was trying to find lo-salt stock cubes in Tesco to use for dd but couldnt find any.

I think I will make my own...Lorraine Kellys book is quite easy to follow, I find (except Ive lost it in the house somewhere...)

VoodooWizbit · 06/02/2007 17:01

hope Mdog and mr. Mdog are having some fun!

Jennster · 06/02/2007 18:28

Just made the sweetcorn patties here and they were really nice actually! DD ate a quarter of one. Click on recipes on the left hand column and scroll down. I used frozen sweetcorn defrosted with boiling water in a jug and then some poured over, and used SR flour as didn't have plain and all the baking powder. I did half quantities too.

I tried the onion bharjis and they were scummy. Must have done something wrong.

Jennster · 06/02/2007 18:30

Fry the mushrooms gently in butter and finely chopped garlic Mmmmmmmmmm

DeputyMacDawg · 06/02/2007 19:23

Good evening everyone
Am in fabulous mood cos I got my hair cut

at Jennsterbub's accident, glad everyone ok now

dd's 1st birthday on Monday, got her this today, and ordered a bike seat and helmet so I can get off my lardy ass and get out on my bike.
I took her up to the stables today for a visit. She was 'ooh'-'ooh'-'ooh'-ing away at the horses, and patted one
dh sat in car cos he's allergic
Hopefully dh will take a piccie while he's off so I can share my new 'do'. No-one here has noticed !!
Toodle-pip!!

Jennster · 06/02/2007 20:08

Happy Birthday Macpuppy!

worleythewisp · 06/02/2007 20:39

ds1 fell down our stairs when he was 2. he had managed to push the stair gate away at the bottom (it wasnt a very good one, just sort of wedged between walls - so not to my self get a better one this time)and he went under it and then all we heard was thud thud thud, he was all grazed as we had just taken the carpet up from the stairs ready for painting and new carpet.
he still has a scar on his back from the graze, just to make me feel bad. i waited for months for the social services to come round and take him away!!! but they never came so they cant of thought was that bad of a mother!!

but then seeing some of things now that i see at work, a fall down the stairs is not a lot compared to...
not nice job sometimes

worleythewisp · 06/02/2007 20:45

i got to work today and suddenly realsied i had forgotten my breast pump... i had all my sterile bottles etc and the battery pack just not the bit you put on your boob. |But the nice sister in SCBU let me use their almeda one. i think i prefer mine though, there was so big and didn't get as much out in the time that my medela one does.
i wasnt the only staff member who forgot their pump, as a dr had to come and use it also!!

Voodoo do you look at all out grammer? my dad got ds1 the eats, shoots and leaves book for him ( the kiddie version though!!)

worleythewisp · 06/02/2007 21:39

macdawg
did you once say you got a doidy cup thing for you little one?
is it any good? i was just looking in to getting one but not sure it he would be able to manage it? i keep trying to offer him some cooled water but he doesnt want it, except for when i offered him (well actually i was drinking it and he pulls my cup to him so i gave hima sip) of squash, then his tongue goes in and waggles about tasting it, its quite amusing..

Jennster · 06/02/2007 21:46

That's so annoying! I used to leave my pump at work so I couldn't forget it, but did forget my sterilised bottles loads. Luckily we sell feeding bottles and I had a cold water steriliser to sterilise it. I've still got 2 in my locker. Towards the end when DD was about 8 months I gave up sterilising every time. I whizzed a boiled kettle over everything and let it air dry. Somebody has mentioned a few times on a few threads that actually we don't need to sterilise so much if we use really hot soapy water. Anyway breast milk is MAGIC

Jennster · 06/02/2007 21:50

I've got a doidy. DD is really good at drinking from them, but I've given up because I don't think she drinks enough now I'm only feeding her morning and night. I've got one of the cheapest Tommee Tippee ones (where the spout folds into the lid) and she is really good at drinking herself from that.

DeputyMacDawg · 07/02/2007 10:10

dd was really good at drinking from her doidy until the day she discovered she could get her hand in it and skiddle the juice.
She now drinks from the cheap Tommee Tippee beaker.
She down to bf morning and night, with diluted fruit juice with meals.
Back to solid poos today, hurrah

VoodooWizbit · 07/02/2007 16:22

bonjourno ladies, (and MDog...) fnar!!

thanks for those recipies Jenn, I printed them all out to stick on thefridge. Iam finding it really hard to get organised and cook BEFORE dd gets hungry, how do you do it?
I am not fond of freezing/defrosting etc...

I dry fried a bit of steak mince and did pasta spirals but it was a waste as she coulnt eat them...I endedup microwaving another jar...

I just dont get all this cooking!!!!!!!!!!!

DeputyMacDawg · 07/02/2007 19:15

MacDawg a laydee....?
computer says no !!!!

worleythewisp · 07/02/2007 20:07

ds2 slept from 10.30 till 7.40 last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was soooo nice, but my boobs hurt when i got up, and had to feed him quick and express the other, but managed to get 4oz which i have froze ready for nursery.

ds1 is really hoping for the snow tomorrow,, we have been given a 70% chance but we normally dont get any that sticks, i think its our salty air as we are so close to the beach, but hes got his wellies ready and checked we still had his sledge!!

DeputyMacDawg · 07/02/2007 21:49

Hope you all have fun in the snow.
Looks as if we will be having a lovely sunny day again

Jennster · 07/02/2007 22:19

Don't think we're going to get snow. Skies are too clear and it's freezing.

DD has hardly eaten the last few days. She's been really off colour, and I was looking at her in the bath and noticed a few spots. When Dh came in I asked if she had the spot on her face when he picked her up and he said OOOO they said to mention there is chickenpox at nursery!

Have a problem getting food ready for when she is hungry I have to say. Babybel cheese are very handy to snack in the mean time. The chicken goujon type things on the website are brilliant if you make a load and freeze them uncooked. Have a load in a freezer bag and they take about 15mins to cook from frozen. Always put extra portions of bolognaise and stuff like that in the freezer so it's dead quick to defrost and add to pasta or rice (which you can also freeze)

DeputyMacDawg · 07/02/2007 22:55

Your dh is as good at passing on messages as mine, then
I make big batches off stuff, freeze in small pots then nuke when they're needed.
Works out really cheap to feed her that way.
Doing her a pork/tomato/veggie casserole tomorrow. I'll probably get about 20 portions from it

VoodooWizbit · 08/02/2007 10:24

hmmmmmmmmmm food for thought...

worleythewisp · 08/02/2007 10:31

well there wasnt any snow when we got up but it started as i walked back from dropping ds1 at school, it so cold and wet my face was stinging, i left ds2 at home with dp as it was too cold for him. ds1 wanted to go int the car but we live so cloose it is only a 10min walk so by the time i've found somewhere to park the car its esier just to walk.

if it lays then we'll pick him up with his sledge.

my work has just been on the news as they've admitted someone from the bernies factory where they have birdflu. im glad i wasnt there yesterday, have to go in tomorrow but hopefully they will say it's not birdflu and just manflu!!!!

worleythewisp · 08/02/2007 10:34

voodoo, you can awlays just keep a bag of frozen veg in, and just defrost req portion and boil a little potato and hey presto a quicky meal.

DeputyMacDawg · 08/02/2007 17:52
