Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenge - all welcome

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 01:42

So the aim is to make one small change a week over a year to keep it manageable based on a book called 52 Small Changes. I'll post each week with the new challenge and people can adapt to however it suits them.

Week 1 starting tomorrow (or today I guess as it's now after midnight) is to drink more water.

The book advises this method for working out how much you should drink: take your body weight in pounds and divide by two, that number is the amount of water you should drink in ounces eg you weigh 150lb so you should drink 75oz water per day. I can't quite follow this so I'm sticking with 1.5 litres a day as an aim.

Feel free to add fruit or veg or whatever if you don't like the taste of water by itself. I currently have a jug that I've added some raspberries and mint to waiting for me to drink tomorrow.

I will check in at the end of each day to update on my progress and keep myself accountable. I hope you all find it helpful too!

Here's to a healthier year Wine

Oh and Kanyes I'm not telling anybody to stop drinking wine as that would make me a hypocrite but get your water in first!

I'm in. And yes, a thread a week would be amazing as I check in only sporadically and am not very good at speed reading long threads to catch up with developments. Confused

I drink at least a litre of water most days but easily tell the days when I have forgotten as I get a headache and feel grotty. It's definitely worth it AND it makes you feel a bit fuller!

Thanks OP for starting this.

comeagainforbigfudge · 30/12/2015 17:18

Im doing not to badly. Managed 2l yesterday and close to 1.5l today.

Thanks for the app names - i forget who recommended them

I've decided that im going to aim for 1.5l of water at day with another litre of tea/fizzy juice/soup etc so im not getting to bored with water. Working so far Brew

RufusTheReindeer · 30/12/2015 17:42

On my 4th glass which is good for me. Will try and make it a definite 5 today

A new thread per week would be great with the old weeks on it so we can see how well we are doing

Ememem84 · 30/12/2015 18:25

2.25 litres today. Partly because I was dehydrated from wine last night.

angelicjen · 30/12/2015 18:28

I definitely need to do this, especially as I'm breastfeeding so in in too. Thanks for starting it.

WhoTookAllTheGoodNicknames · 30/12/2015 19:31

Have managed 1.5L so far but I'm hoping to get to 2 before I go to bed later. Not too bad for my first day Smile

Sirona · 30/12/2015 19:34

Nearly there with the 2l water. Did my virtuous gym session this morning so the first 500ml was easy since I wore my thermal leggings by mistake. Have been drinking wine since a silly hour not normally a lush honest, blame Christmas but this thread is helping me having a water in between the wine. Hoping it means I won't feel as yuck and dehydrated tomorrow.

KanyesVest · 30/12/2015 19:41

Thanks, Odd, at worst I'll be parallel supping Smile. I've actually refilled my jug, so I'll be at about 3l if I finish it all this evening.

Thepinkcricket · 30/12/2015 19:42

I'm a bit late but would like to join too - a great one to start with with the new year festivities still to come!

FiveShelties · 30/12/2015 19:49

6 Glasses for me and time for another two before bedtime.

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/12/2015 19:51

Still here and still drinking the water .

What's next ?or am I too early ?

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 20:04

Everybody's doing so well! I feel proud Grin I'm at 1 litre so a bit of a slow start but I'll have it by the end of the day.

howlong sleep is next. Your username is very apt.

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/12/2015 20:12

Sleep would be good , for reasons best known to someone else I keep waking up at half three and it takes me ages to get back over . very annoying and knackering .

You should feel proud Smile

jelliebelly · 30/12/2015 20:17

Bit late to this thread but sounds a great idea. Will start on the water tomorrow (will be up all night weeing if I start now!)

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 30/12/2015 20:41

I spent about 10 hours in the car today so not my best. But tomorrow I shall return to form, and I drank 2 pints before I left. but I am now at home so no longer in party mood (for a couple of nights at least).

ArriettyMatilda · 30/12/2015 21:43

Today I've drank 2.1 litres of water plus 200ml of orange juice and 500ml of Lemonade. I'll try to stick to water tomorrow in the day, as imagine I'll have a drink whilst celebrating for nye.

RattieOfCatan · 30/12/2015 21:44

I've had 3600ml today, not sure why I'm drinking quite so much?!

minny You'll have to let us know what the infuser bottle is like, I've been curious about those!

I second the recommendation for SleepBot, I used it religiously for ages and it was great, I don't use it so much now as my sleep pattern is quite good when I'm actually in my routine! Bed by 10:30 and up at 6:30 with my sunrise clock, that is a lifesaver.

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 21:47

Bloody hell Rattie taking the lead there aren't you?

OP posts:
obrigada · 30/12/2015 21:49

Only seen this thread but count me in. Will start tomorrow !

RattieOfCatan · 30/12/2015 21:53

I am really not sure what's going on! I think it's something to do with the sneaky ciggis I've been having this holiday, they make my throat feel weird and so I drink more to make it feel better! I've been running around at work a lot too I suppose Confused The cigarettes have been used up so we'll see if they had anything to do with it.

I didn't have any tea or coffee at work though, I usually have at least a cuppa first thing in the morning. I did have two before I left for work at 10:30 though and have one now.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 30/12/2015 22:03

I managed around 3 litres today but i suspect that may be down to the amazingly cheesy (and therefore salty) pizza that I ate for lunch Blush

GeordieJeannie · 30/12/2015 22:56

Reckon I'm at around 1.5 litres at the moment. Struggled today but I do need it, my lips are dry and my hands feel very tight after washing them.

Allgunsblazing · 30/12/2015 22:58

I did very well today I think. About 1l and a half I think;)

OddSocksHighHeels · 30/12/2015 23:01

Well done everybody!

I've just finished 2 litres. I'll be up all night peeing now.
