Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenge - all welcome

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 01:42

So the aim is to make one small change a week over a year to keep it manageable based on a book called 52 Small Changes. I'll post each week with the new challenge and people can adapt to however it suits them.

Week 1 starting tomorrow (or today I guess as it's now after midnight) is to drink more water.

The book advises this method for working out how much you should drink: take your body weight in pounds and divide by two, that number is the amount of water you should drink in ounces eg you weigh 150lb so you should drink 75oz water per day. I can't quite follow this so I'm sticking with 1.5 litres a day as an aim.

Feel free to add fruit or veg or whatever if you don't like the taste of water by itself. I currently have a jug that I've added some raspberries and mint to waiting for me to drink tomorrow.

I will check in at the end of each day to update on my progress and keep myself accountable. I hope you all find it helpful too!

Here's to a healthier year Wine

Haha yes it must do! I'm at 1.5 litres now so that's 3 successful days. I feel good.

I drank about 5 litres yesterday. I'm a bit shocked I could drink so much. I still woke up thirsty.
It summer here and I got sunburnt and I'm breastfeeding so I figure that's why I need so much water.

Does anyone know what next weeks change is?

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 20:19

Next week is all about sleep. That one won't be fixed in a week Grin

I've just found this thread and would like to join. I usually drink only water but over Christmas some has been replaced with fruit juice, tea or fizzy or alcohol This will help me get back on track with a more healthy lifestyle, good idea for a thread.

librariesgaveusp0wer · 29/12/2015 20:26

I am doing ok on the water.

Not sure what to do about sleep next week. I have a non sleeping toddler and do my best to get enough sleep, but there is little I can change to improve where I am.

Wondering whether to sit it out or make up my own?

BifsWif · 29/12/2015 20:28

Can i join?

MrsBungle · 29/12/2015 20:35

This sounds great. I'm going to try. Smile

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 20:40

More recruits! Yay!

libraries I'll post all the sleep info on Friday or Saturday and then you can see if any of it works for you. I'd it doesn't then maybe adapt it a bit or just pick something else entirely. Or convince the toddler to join in with the thread Grin

I've only just seen this thread, can I join?
So far I'm on one litre, will try and squeeze in the extra half a litre before bed.

BugritAndTidyup · 29/12/2015 20:42

I'm probably not going to do the sleep one. Torn between taking daily vitamins and decluttering a bag a day. Hmm.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 20:51

Of course, everybody is free to join!

Bugrit daily vitamins are one of the things in a later week so de-cluttering is probably your best bet.

Sleep you say? I have a non sleeping toddler and an even worse sleeping 6 month old. I haven't slept more than 4 hours in a row for 2 years. Might have to sit that one out!

librariesgaveusp0wer · 29/12/2015 21:18

Are daily stretches in later weeks? I thought of that. If not, decluttering would be good!

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 21:24

Yes daily stretches are happening in a later week. I didn't spot declittering in the contents.

Just hit my 2 litres! I am definitely going to be up and down like a yoyo through the night..

RattieOfCatan · 29/12/2015 22:07

Over 3l of water today! I have a nice water bottle from ikea that's 600ml and have been drinking out of that at work and at home today, I find that I drink more from bottles so I'll keep it topped up I think!

RufusTheReindeer · 29/12/2015 22:21

Declittering

Not sure i want to do that

RufusTheReindeer · 29/12/2015 22:22

Whats after sleep more?

standingonlego · 29/12/2015 22:25

Joining in too :)

Allgunsblazing · 29/12/2015 22:26

Ooh, don't spoil it, I am looking forward to find out at the end of each week!Grin

One and a bit litres done for the day. I don't think it would be good for me any more than this. I am enjoying this, thank you op.

OddSocksHighHeels · 29/12/2015 22:31

Oops Blush no definitely no declittering going on. That would be bad.

Ok, no more spoilers, sorry Grin

KanyesVest · 29/12/2015 22:32

Think I'll get to 1.5l by bedtime. We were out at the panto this afternoon and I absolutely wasn't risking drawing attention to myself by getting up for the loo mid-act!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 29/12/2015 22:34

Declittering. No one is doing that to me!!

I'll take a look at the stuff on sleep, but if I'm not going to be able to manage any of it, maybe we could have a side group decluttering that week?

falgelednl · 29/12/2015 22:39

Hi everyone. I know I am a bit late but am going to join you all. I am usually not too bad with drinking water but there have been extra fizzy drinks around and I was drinking quite a lot of coffee whilst visiting the PIL. Will start counting glasses tomorrow but find it easier to drink cold water from a bottle in the fridge. Thinking this might be an excuse to buy myself a water bottle for work...

WhoTookAllTheGoodNicknames · 29/12/2015 22:41

Can I join? I was thinking earlier I need to overhaul my life and this sounds like a good way to do it.
