here we go...

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 13/06/2012 18:16

Figgy - I'm sure your friend is feeling very numb and scared at the moment. I hope they get her treatment plan sorted out asap, and of course she would be very welcome on this thread if she would like to come here Smile

Snoopy - sorry the Zopi wasn't a success, I think generally you get these things from the GP, but if you see the oncologist before your chemo you could ask him/her (and he will either prescribe something himself or send a message to your Doc. - that's what mine did anyway.)

I'm going down to my mum's next week, its her 90th birthday on the 28th so we want to take her out somewhere to celebrate, and also she needs some help sorting the house and garden before she puts the house up for sale.

Am hoping it will be a nice break for DH, who is very stressed atm, and frankly not very well Sad

smee · 13/06/2012 18:23

Oh dear, Kurri. Didn't realise your DH was having a tricky time. Is it work stress? If so, I'd bet the break will be perfect. I'd imagine it's going to be a weird birthday for all of you without your dear Dad. Will be hoping the sun shines. Smile

Sometimes, you deserve a bit of shopping. How's your new back? Surely now you're taller it will need new clothes? Grin

Figgy, yes hope your friend gets through this horrid waiting stage asap. Must bring back all sorts for you too, so you take care.

Lime's bone scan tomorrow, so will be thinking of you and Snoopy for her chemo. x

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2012 20:00

lots of thoughts whizzing to snoopy and lime for tomorrow.
figgy your poor friend- she must be reeling, but once she feels up to it she'd be more than welcome here for some extra support.
kk am so sorry that dh isn't feeling so good at the moment Sad A break will perk him up I hope. Hope your mum has a lovely bday, will be hard I expect without your lovely dad.
All went well at parent consultations - T is on track, just needs to plan better, speak up when he needs help but am very pleased with him Grin

OP posts:
graciesmall09 · 13/06/2012 20:01

Hugs to all those who need it and wishing lime lots of luck for tomorrow. I hope you don't have too long to wait for the result.

Thinking of you snoopy for tomorrow. That will be another one ticked off.

Aw kurri hope DH enjoys the break andd feels a bit less stressed.

Had a long chat with my boss today. He says he would much prefer me to take off until this is all over. He said he is worried I come in contact with infection in our open plan office. So I am going to think about things over the weekend.

graciesmall09 · 13/06/2012 20:02

Crosspost with mas well done to T. Glad it all went well.

jchocchip · 13/06/2012 20:39

gracie your boss sounds nice, you have worked for him for a long time, haven't you? Difficult to know what to do for the best, can you afford to take some time off for a few weeks?

I've got tomorrow and Thursday off work. Have a funeral to go to tomorrow, promised to bake a cake for afterwards. Going to try and finish my jam making and lots of other outstanding jobs too. May pop down to Mums but feel a bit rushed this week.

graciesmall09 · 13/06/2012 20:59

jchoc I have worked for him for 22 yrs. I am tired tonight so think I might take his advice. He said I could have as long as I need. Sounds like you have a busy few days ahead, don't be overdoing it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2012 22:40

gracie - nice boss by the sound of it- I should take the time off -sounds as though you need it.
Hope funeral is ok tomorrow jane (and cake Smile)

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 13/06/2012 23:11

Good thoughts for Lime and Snoopy tomorrow, will be thinking of you.

jane, - hope the funeral is OK, and that you are too xx

gracie - your boss sounds understanding, - and there's no point in forcing yourself to do things when you are not up to them, - the fatigue will catch up with you, its very frustrating when you want to do things and can't but I think you have to go with the flow a bit and listen to what your body is telling you.

I think DH is probably depressed, - he won't go to the GP about it though (well he says he will, but he hasn't yet Hmm) He's also had a sore throat for some time, - he did go to the doc about that, and she said she thought it was stomach acid, burning his throat. So I think that could be linked to stress too. He's got to go back if the antacid doesn't work and she'll refer him for a camera down the throat at the hospital. he's been googling like a mad thing -and inevitably has worried himself Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/06/2012 07:28

oh poor dh kk - friend of mine had similar, probably stress related and had the camera down throat (but without sedation, which was a mistake) Nothing bad found.

Morning All

Hope it goes smoothly for Lime and Snoopy today .

Gracie a good point to remember us that you are only going to get more tired as treatment progresses .

kk sorry to hear DH is suffering . Depression is hard for both of you to cope with .

I am in my lovely hospital cape waiting for my weekly wound check from the surgeon . So I will sign off for now and update you all later on the adventures of Topsys nipple ... Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 14/06/2012 09:36

Lots of positive thoughts and vibes for Lime and Snoopy, and for Topsy's wayward nipple.

MAS - really glad you are pleased with T: some kids do find it very hard to speak up when they need help, sadly. Not my dd though - she finds it another useful opportunity for excessive talking Grin

KK - very sorry to hear about DH. That reflux thing he may have with his throat is horrid, I have had it for years, it comes and goes and can creep back up on you quite slowly. Depression is a real curse for the whole family, too. I hope he can get himself motivated to get help so he can start to enjoy life again. x

Off out now for my delayed shop: Smee's quite right, I am in need of want new stuff. Better not get any though.....Wink

smee · 14/06/2012 10:30

Hope Snoopy & Lime are okay today. Topsy's adventurous nipple too. Smile

Kurri, Sad about your DH. I'd say the throat thing's stress too. Amazing what the mind can do to us.

Jane, I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can. Don't overdo it now.

Gracie, I think take the time too. Easy to be a bit hamsterish on chemo (so on a wheel). I know I was but looking back, I wish I'd tried harder to stop and take time to heal. If you're off work, you can still be busy and active, just doing things for you. Smile

MAS, your DS sounds like he's doing perfectly. He always sounds quite determinedly his own person to me, which I'd say is no mean feat in a teen.

Ned, how are you?? How's the side effects? Hope you're okay, you're a bit quiet.

Here, sun's shining and am envious of Sometimes shopping. Am useless at shopping, but always like the idea of it. Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/06/2012 10:33

waves to topsy in her cape and hopes that sometimes has a jolly shopping adventure. smee yes, pleased with T - he seems to have absorbed what has been said previously Smile

OP posts:
topsyturner · 14/06/2012 10:40

I'm baaaaaaaaack !

You will all be bored pleased to hear that Topsys wayward nipple is still healing nicely .
Don't have to see the surgeon for another 2 weeks . And there is some talk of switching to manuka honey dressings .

So I am all set for Monday's pre chemo appointment , shall be requesting a picc line .

Jane hope the funeral goes smoothly and don't forget to leave some cake on the trolley !

Mas well done to T .
We are waiting for DS end of first year in grammar school report and exam result letter .
DS had a meltdown last night when he told me he got 84% in his geography paper and I just mentioned imagine how much better he would have done if he actually studied !
I really need to watch my mouth sometimes .

I slipped and fell on the way home from hospital and landed in Tesco Express .
Where upon (and I have no memory of this) I bought a box of eclairs ...
I would put them on the fbs trolley but I have a strange feeling they might just disappear before they can make it that far
Grin

OneInEight · 14/06/2012 10:59

Good morning everyone. Very disappointed that Topsy is not sharing her eclairs but don't blame her! Obvioulsy overdid the virtual champagne as ended up in hospital again with a very impressive neutrophil count of 0.04. Back home again now but dh and ds2 are full of cold so I am really hoping I don't have to do another visit. MAS - glad ds is continuing to do well you must be so pleased. Kurri - sorry your dh is going through a bad patch. My dh unfortunately suffers too and has definitely been augmented by all this bc business. We can't seem to find an anti-depressant that helps him without sending him soporific and he has tried quite a few. Exercise does help him which I think has been missing over the last six months as I haven't had the energy to prod him out. Gracie - the tiredness does increase towards the end of the chemotherpay although I cant remeber if there going to switch you to docetaxol which has seemed to knock me out more so I think it is a good idea to sign off work - There is no way I could have worked through the last two cycles but plan on going back soon. Ned - well done for finishing and hope you avoid a hospital visit this time - for all they treat you nicely it is something you really want to avoid. Goodluck to everyone with treatment this week and hope everyone else is having a good week.

smee · 14/06/2012 11:06

Oh Eight, poor you. What a sod Topsy's eaten all the eclairs. Sounds like you need one to keep those neutrophil's soaring..

jchocchip · 14/06/2012 11:14

Cake making is well under way. Have made some ginger biscuits too, some of them are slightly overdone/run together so I will put some on the fbs trolley for you lovely ladies to eat the evidence (they taste ok, I've tested them) Blush

smee · 14/06/2012 11:33

Topsy, glad nipple's behaving itself. + your DS's 84% sounds pretty astonishing to me. Am not sure I ever reached those dizzy heights ever. He must be mighty bright. Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 14/06/2012 11:56

Yay yay and yay again for Topsy!

Less so for OneinEight - poor you Sad

Could do with one of those ginger biscuits

Picked up DH's suit, bought some Neal's Yard frankincense moisturiser which had been recommended to me for papery old skin, got a lovely summery blue shirt in Phase Eight's sale - started to feel guilty and scuttled guiltily home. All in all, not a bad morning's work Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/06/2012 13:23

sounds a good trip sometimes ! does the frankinsence smell nice ?
Poor eight - hope you are feeling better now x
Hooray for topsy !!
Am mightily impressed with junior topsy's marks though - he must be hugely smart !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 14/06/2012 13:24

ned have you seen ? live Patrick Gale webchat on 27th !!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 14/06/2012 13:41

Frankincense smells quite nice in the pot but a bit odd after it's been on the skin for a few minutes Hmm. Skin feels nice though!

Junior Topsy sounds like a major brainbox to me Smile

Gigondas · 14/06/2012 14:12

What is a hospital cape? Do I need to add it to my bag for next week? Been to visit where will beimprisonedin for treatment Next week. Seems ok- mostly will be there hooked to a drip and Bored so hoping net access works ok.

Glad someone else been hitting shops as between scarves new pyjamas and lippy my credit card is wincing.

Well done to Mas and Topsy junior who are obviously smart. Mini gig can grab toys and put them in her mouth - is that in same league?Wink

Oneineight sorry you are poorly.

On train so will be back to catch up properly later- sorry for anyone missed .

Have no cheese but French butter biscuits to add to tray. They are good for neutropenia Wink

Baskets45 · 14/06/2012 14:16

ooh, words and many of them!! i've been reading through a haze of fatigue and sendingyou all cyberhugs and thoughts at regular intervals. Well, i had the best eccles cake and cappuccino this AM - food always tastes good after fasting, even in a hosp cafe! And my liver scan is done, results in 10 days. Not pleasant, took ages longer than last time, lots of prodding and repeating, and a few tender spots which i don't recall frm last time. Absolutely no point in reading 'too much' into that. I must just await results like a very patient patient.

Shopping done here frm couch lately. Acc to one son, it's 'your fault, mother, Borders shut down', I think due to my amazon habit which hasn't reduced since Borders shut. But will need ot as money seems to go less far these days. This week have ordered stuff online for boys to wear to cousin's wedding in august - some of it to go back. i just cannot cope with shops these days, too hot, noisy, bright, and it's lovely getting parcels ....

Topsy, glad your nipple doing okay. Your comments re boy's exam reminded me of my old dad who would ALWAYS say something like 'And what happened to the other 16%?' or whatever. Very trying after a bit, and he meant it seriously. |We were never quite good enough, methinks. In this house, we joke about it when ds3, he of the scientific bent, comes back with yet another result in the 80s and 90s. But you do ahve to choose your moments I think. He is annoying me just now, the boy. He's supposed ot be meeting his eldest bro to help bring his stuff back, has missed his bus and has 2 hrs till next. AND has nothing to do. Grrr!!

BWs and eccles cakes to all. Sorry some of you having tough times.

xx
