Smee not they can't move it. At the moment it is ok but if it stops giving blood again I will need injected again. They may replace it at some stage but I'm hoping not.

gigs private care with oncologist and surgeon has been fine and very thorough but not so sure about the chemo/nursing aspect. Boss is good but I have had an excellent sick record over the years so he could never complain but he really doesn't appreciate people being unreliable which I know I am at the moment.

thegreylady · 12/06/2012 20:33

I will have a look at the Reiki thread-I am just popping in and out now :)
She seems a bit unbalanced-I had pms from 3 other people who had been 'attacked' by her.
It just seemed a pointless thing to be so vehement about.I should have just shut up I think.
I am off for my first acupuncure session on Friday-has anyone tried it?

Gigondas · 12/06/2012 20:53

That has been my experience too gracie but chemo is in Nhs under my dr so hopefully is better.

grey glad she hasn't put you off- she does sound loony.

jchocchip · 12/06/2012 21:10

kk those flowers have good timing
sorry to hear about your friend figgy what a shock for her and for you.

Another early start tomorrow so I'm going to try and get an early night :)

LimeJellyforBrains · 12/06/2012 21:55

Oh bugger Figgy I'm so sorry. Hugs for you and your friend x

grey Haven't tried acupuncture but it has been proven effective. I have, however tried Reiki, and very relaxing it was too.

Ah Kurri Smile and Sad at "a nice jumpery Dad smell". Mine has a whiff of engine oil about it/him x

Smee we did say on the invitations to bring wellies and a change of clothes in case of rain, but the woods may just be too swampy, as Figgy said.

Gigondas · 12/06/2012 21:58

Sorry grey -
Acupuncture is fab . Relaxing and helpful for all sorts of things like aches and pains do a very good complementary therapy.

Have been having it regularly (and through Both pregnancies) for about 5 years

smee · 12/06/2012 22:31

I've had acupuncture too. Quite amazing in lots of ways. I had it for a back problem first time round, then went back when I was having problems breathing earlier this year. She did something she said 'would open the lungs of a horse' and genuinely, I galloped all the way back to the tube. Grin

Lime, if you can bear the mud, I'd go for a mammoth treasure hunt or something energetic in the woods first. Wear them out before they trash your house get to slump in front of dvd. Smile

LimeJellyforBrains · 12/06/2012 22:38

Cunningly, I assigned 'Entertainment' to DH while I stay warm and dry at home organising the 'Catering' Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/06/2012 23:01

yep, acupuncture is good I think- had it for a foot problem.
figgy so sorry about your friend and for you to have that shock too.
greylady I looked at the Reiki thread and CoteDAzur does seem a bit unhinged- she doesn't really know when to leave it alone and seems to totally lack empathy.

Morning All

So sorry to hear about your friends news Figgy , bastard Cancer Sad

topsyturner · 13/06/2012 07:49

Hit send then without meaning to !

My sister in law is a Physiotherapist working with post surgical patients in the nhs . She did a course in acupuncture and uses it for pain relief for her patients .

More rain today , will it ever stop ?

Gigondas · 13/06/2012 08:06

Stopped here temporarily...

I wouldn't post a reiki thread about it but there have been studies showing there is a real effect of acupuncture on certain types of pain (ie not placebo) so seems to have more credibility than other types of alternative therapies (homeopathy being the one that people seem to think have least scientific basis).

Talking of which have acupuncture and therapy session this morning probably followed by some therapeutic shopping Blush.

topsyturner · 13/06/2012 09:05

Shopping
Now there's an alternative therapy I really believe in Grin

Sometimesiwonder · 13/06/2012 09:28

Just popped in to say I am so sorry for your friend Figgy - and you. Hard to move on with your own process when there are people you care about just starting out on the road. Sad

I've had reiki too, once. It all seemed a bit 'woo' and I did have trouble not laughing at the time, but I have to say there was a very marked effect that lasted 2 or 3 weeks. And that can't be bad.

A very dear friend of Mum's has died, so that's another funeral to go to, next week. Sad and depressing (though he was very old, but still, he is so much missed) - so I shall have to go out in a bit and try to shake it off.

Sometimesiwonder · 13/06/2012 09:28

Possibly shopping might be just what I need, Topsy Wink

smee · 13/06/2012 11:21

Sometimes, hope you're out shopping by now. Sad about your Mum's friend. Sad

Lime, that's a cunning plan. What have you bought DS? Has he a list as long as his arm? I'd bet he has.

We've got sun here. Doubt it will last, but still feels good. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2012 12:19

really sunny here ! Sorry to hear about your mum's friend sometimes depressing for old ones when their friends start going.
Parent consultations later with ds- no dh as he'll still be at work..much trailing around school and waiting in between appointments.
Love to all today...x

KurriKurri · 13/06/2012 12:27

So sorry about your Mum's friend Sometimes, - it is sad for you and to see your mum sad as well. Getting out of the house is always a good therapy I find for most things, - whether shopping or just pottering about. xx

Lime - very wise to assign entertainment to your DH Grin - my DH used to run of an hide at the mention of large groups of children!

What is this sun thing of which you speak Smee? Send some upwards and eastwards please Grin

I've heard lots of good things about acupuncture, am sure it is very helpful.

Reiki - the sceptical side of me says there is no logic behind it, and no reason why it should work. But I know several people who swear by it and seem to get benefit, and my yoga teacher does a bit of it and has used it on my shoulder before now - I can definitely feel a sense of calm ad warmth when she does.

Whether it's in my head or not I don't know, but actually it doesn't matter - it can't do any harm, and if you feel something helps, then it works for you.
We can get reiki for free at our cancer support centre (plus a range of other complementary treatments) - and I know people really feel better and calmer after them.

KurriKurri · 13/06/2012 12:29

Good luck with parents consultations MAS, - am sure they will have lots of good things to say about T Smile

Gig - I see there is stinky cheese on the trolley, - yummm.

Sometimesiwonder · 13/06/2012 13:48

Thanks guys. Smile

I agree - reiki does seem weird, but you can actually feel an effect, so who cares why that is?

I am sure MAS is going to come away from the parents' consult with a proud tear in her eye Smile

We have some sun (and even slightly perceptible warmth) here Shock It can't last....

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/06/2012 15:05

I suspect I'll come away with the usual T must push himself a bit more ! he can do it,but is rather casual about things-don't think he realises you have to do more than the minimum to get by Grin

OP posts:
snoopygirl · 13/06/2012 17:24

Hi all,

figgy sorry about your friend. That's hard to deal with when you are trying to cope with all this too.
sometimes sorry about your Mum's friend too, I hope fresh air makes you feel a bit better.

Well I took the Zopi... blah did blah sleeping tab. it worked until about 4.30am again but I have felt shit all day. Like big hangover! not taking anymore, it's made me have to go to bed and take headache tabs also felt really hot but no temperature. i think i will stick with 2 Lorazipam if my centre tomorrow will perscribe some more. At least no s/e for me on them and they do make me quite dosy. Are you menat to get this sort of thing from Dr's or Cancer treatment centre?

Well round 2 tomorrow if bloods ok. Hey this picc line is handy for taking bloods isn't it - just suck it out!! No needles. Great idea.

Oh it's been really sunny here today!

Figgyroll · 13/06/2012 17:30

The same thing could have been said about my DS1 MAS. He did the barest minimum but pulled his socks up at university. I hope parents evening goes well for you.

Sometimes, sad news about your mum's friend. Sad

Smee, we've had sun all day too. Shame I've been stuck indoors sorting out all the paper work to send in a Direct Payments Returns Form for DS2s money. What a palaver finding all the receipts and invoices. Last year wasn't a good year for me being organised but I've got everything in the end. Let's hope the powers-that-be don't query anything and send me in a tizz.

My friend is still reeling from the shock of her diagnosis and I will direct her here in due course but I think it might be early days for her. She has a strong network of very good friends and I'm sure she will get through this will their loving support. She knows she can count on me for anything.

Mmm, sausage, mash and beans for dinner tonight - comfort food if ever there was.

smee · 13/06/2012 17:30

Snoopy, not sure if you can get them from unit, but worth asking. GP should do it if you call too. Glad Picc line's working well. Missing that rooting around for a vein is definitely a plus. Will be thinking about you tomorrow. x

MAS, I think I like your DS's attitude. He always sounds focussed on what he's interested in and hugely self reliant, which is no mean feat as a teen.

Sometimes, did you shop? Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 13/06/2012 18:00

Snoopy - fingers crossed for round 2 - get it over with!

I didn't shop, no Angry

Things kept intervening. But DH needs me to pick up his new suit tomorrow (he's a shortarse and we needed the trousers taken up Grin ) so I will do a bit of damage to my wallet then!
