Beautiful spring day, hurtling through the countryside on a train. Nice to have the luxury of training it rather than driving. Couldn't mumsnet if I was driving and I don't like the M1...

smee · 20/03/2012 15:56

Barbie Olympics sound sweet, Gig. DS's school went overboard about it last year and did a whole opening ceremony in the playground. Each class had to demonstrate an Olympic sport. They even did synchronised swimming. Was wonderfully camp apparently. Grin

On Minaret - DS says he's going to abseil down it. Always hard to tell with him, but I think he's seeing it as a sort of a funky tree house. Not sure what our rather devout Muslim neighbours would make of it. Grin

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 15:57

Have you got a drink and a FBs for journey j?

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 15:58

Grin you are cheering me up smee- that made me laugh out loud . Was synchronized swimming in playground?

AutumnSummers · 20/03/2012 16:04

Hiya :) New to the thread as suggested to me by gigondas I hope you are all OK / on the road to recovery and look forward to giving / getting some support.

Here is a link to my original thread by way of introduction. Now, I'm off to distract myself with Clingfilm (Will make no sense unless you read gig's comments in my origonal thread :) )

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 16:08

Skybluechair had ovarian cancer - hopefully she will see your post and give you her experience

KurriKurri · 20/03/2012 16:12

Smee - I suspected running might be hard Grin but like the sound of starting with mostly walking jane. That way I would have time to look round and check no one was looking before launching into a slow jog Grin

Loving the camp olympics opening ceremony at DS's school Smee.

Minaret suggestion is a possibility for next door - it could be anything. Mr Neighbour, has come home early and actually nodded at me as I came back from dog walk. I was so startled I said 'lovely day' - but that was a step too far and he turned away in alarm.

topsy - I have my OFRS packed and ready for a zombie attack Grin

Gig - hooray for apprentice -we are fans too Smile, nice to hear of Barbie's success in the olympics. Always good to see her branching out Grin
Does Ken enter men's or women's events I wonder, or is there a special category for people with a mysterious flat area?

The olympics would be better if it was like total wipeout, - midiGig has the right idea Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 16:19

welcome autumn -will nip over to see your thread in a sec.
I love the Barbie Olympics ! Grin
Sending fbs and soothing thoughts to gig
Lots of good thoughts too for you probably - will be hoping for a good result for you.
Minaret would look very nice smee -I can imagine it !

x-posted - Welcome Autumn, - so sorry you are going through a worrying time atm. Waiting for test results is a tough time, so we can all empathise with you and lend an ear if you feel like you want a chat.

Lots of hugs, and hope we can support you through this Smile

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 16:19

Total wipeout as played by the toys is more like roman games as I get to decide who gets to make it across the carpet wipe out zone. To date ken has not been allowed to compete - I think he needs a better outfit (he only has a suit ) but I need to have a word before someone complains to the IOC about gender bias.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/03/2012 16:23

arf gig !!
autumn have had a look -it must be very scary for you -we know about waiting for tests and results here and will most certainly support and hold hands. I too am addicted to facebook -quite a few of us are on there.
Anyway,must do some work...x

KurriKurri · 20/03/2012 16:25

I seem to remember my DD's Ken had a hawaian shirt and shorts, and a suit which I knitted for him. Knitted suits for men are very 'in' dontcha know? IIRC he always went commando whatever he wore Grin

amberlight · 20/03/2012 16:32

Hi Autumn, if it helps, 8 out of 10 women find there's good treatment for it these days. That's a good starting point.
Hope we can supporr you through it all. Me, I'm a year on from a diagnosis of an aggressive type of breast cancer, having gone through chemo, surgery, radiotherapy and targeted therapy (herceptin). Still here, and had lots of very enjoyable days, weeks and months even through all the treatment (some would say I'm madder than a box of frogs for working all the way through it too) Grin But there's good hope.
Have a Brew

Hi all. Brew all round. Will catch up more later...

AutumnSummers · 20/03/2012 16:36

Thanks all. MaryAnn Facebook is the work of the devil. All enticing and sparkly. I may need to duick for cover with this but I really do like the new timeline!

KurriKurri Commando Ken. You could totally sell that to boys :) Incidentally, DD1's Barbies are always nekkid becaue, as DD says, "her clothes are only for special occassions like Birthdays and Tea Parties." I only hope she restricts this Philosophy of hers to the barbies or she'll wind up in trouble one day!! :)

AutumnSummers · 20/03/2012 16:38

amber That's reassuring. I'm glad that your treatment is going well for you. Medicine is awesome these days. :) I will def take you up on that cuppa but I'll make it a coffee. Bloody shattered today!

SparkleRainbow · 20/03/2012 16:42

Hi autumn I am glad you found us, we are always good for some hand holding, question answering and general inane drivel to keep you mind otherwise occupied.

I'll have a Brew thankyou amber. I made chocolate fairy cakes for the dc, but their are lots if anyone fancies one.

Grin at Kurri's commando ken, a source of amusement with the parents in this house, just as the lack of ken's genitalia is to the children.

KurriKurri · 20/03/2012 16:52

How are the children today Sparkle - back at school or still poorly?

I always feel that poor Ken is Barbie's back-up. The person she'll settle for if no one better comes along. And deep down, he knows it. Sad Grin

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 16:54

Kurri I fear you are right. Also he doesn't seem all that sharp based on my extensive viewing of Barbie films.

topsyturner · 20/03/2012 17:22

Hello autumn and welcome Smile
Waiting for appointments is a complete bastard so pull up a chair to the fat boy snack trolley , and we will keep you company .

Think I am going to have to report this thread to MN towers for all the Ken bashing that is going on ... Grin

jchocchip · 20/03/2012 17:25

Gosh this thread moves fast! Welcome to Autumn, this is the best thread for fbs. Read the cling film thread, well a bit of it. Maybe that dh is sleep deprived and rather dumb to start Grin Let the baby play with polythene bags too, why not? lol.

I'm home now to the smell of fresh baked bread, so the fact that the house is untidy and filthy may be overlooked. Dh actually has lots of work this week, so he is still out. Ds is here and tasked with making tea, so that is good.

I had train coffee (urgh) and quavers (remembered what they taste like now, won't make that mistake again)

Think I will pop out for a swim, pool is actually open tues pm so I better make the most of it. Last time I went half an hour before closing (Saturday- unadvertised fairly new session) they had to reopen for me and I had the pool to myself...

jchocchip · 20/03/2012 17:28

Meant to say :) at abseiling down minarets! Maybe the Lord Mayor should suggest that as a charily fundraiser, so much more photogenic than the usual library or Salts Mill...

KurriKurri · 20/03/2012 17:36

No he's not the sharpest tool in the box Gig, but his heart's in the right place (about an inch above his flat area) Grin

I am making a curry for tea, and the liquidy bit is much too hot, will it get better as it cooks? - it's got potato and butternut squash in, am hoping they might absorb some of the spices. (I just flung some spice mix in, without really thinking)Blush

Enjoy your swim jane Smile

Gigondas · 20/03/2012 17:39

Yoghurt or coconut milk may help kurri

KurriKurri · 20/03/2012 18:01

I've got some yogurt - I'll try that. I've poured away half the sauce and added water and its still burning my throat. That'll teach me to measure things.

topsyturner · 20/03/2012 19:08

kk is going to have a ring of fire later Grin
