Amber and topsy - I'm impressed with you both leaving hospital on same day as your ops. I'm surprised amber worked all the way through treatment, I just sort of assumed it was something that needed time off work, but maybe it varies? Wishing you good luck amber for your appointments next week - hope you get good news.

Here's hoping this awful situation might just be a bit more doable than I fear.

I'm going to take dd to bed now, in fact I might stay there as I was awake at silly o'clock this morning worrying. I'll check back in tomorrow. Have a good evening everyone xx

1stepatatime · 15/03/2012 19:19

Kuri - thanks for the info, I hadn't thought about reconstruction in that way, but actually makes a lot of sense. I'm thinking that if I wait then at least if I decide to have it done I'll be in a better frame of mind to deal with it, whereas at the moment I just want to get the surgery over to get rid of the cancer without thinking about anything else.

KurriKurri · 15/03/2012 19:20

x-posted angryfeet - I see you've had good news - that's brilliant, am delighted for you Smile Smile

KurriKurri · 15/03/2012 19:21

and Onestep - that was very much my thinking at the time too Smile

l4k · 15/03/2012 19:26

Sorry to see 1step is having to tread this path, stick with these lovely ladies and they will hold your hand while stuffing you with sweet goodies to keep your strength upWink

SparkleRainbow · 15/03/2012 19:48

Woo Hoo 21, we have come of age.

Will be back on tomorrow, been hectic day and need to spend some time writing up notes after ds' latest hospital appt - actually a useful one with orthotics department and trying to sort his feet...many answers given for levels of pain.

Love to all, sorry to miss you all and not be up to date.

amberlight · 15/03/2012 19:53

JChocchip hurrah re result! Mine's next week and I'm already panicking.
Gigondas, I didn't have any soreness with the radiotherapy, but I used good quality aloe vera gel. My onc said she's hearing this from a lot of people and they all say that it works. No guarantees of course. I also ignored all instructions on not using antiperspirant, and went for one of the no-aluminium herbal sorts. All worked fine that way.

But I absolutely hated the radiotherapy process itself as it's so intrusive/a sensory nightmare for me/they muck you around on timings every day. (I'm autistic, so my sensory systems and need for predictability are much more sensitive than those of other people).

ooo, Wine ! Splendid...

KurriKurri · 15/03/2012 19:55

Have had tea and chunk of french bread.

probably - I see you have had a wobbly day, so good vibes coming your way.

LJ - I've also seen your photo - you are a beautiful woman, and will look gorgeous - it's the other people at the party who need to worry Smile (shoes - bit of a heel - kick them off when you get there and boogie Grin)

waving and love to everyone, - I've been to book club (The Hours by Michael Cunningham) had coffee with friends, lunch with another friend (spinach and potato curry - yum) and a driving lesson. Am pooped. (even though I've mostly just eaten stuffGrin)

smee · 15/03/2012 20:12

Blimey, no.21 already - thanks for sorting us MAS. Has anyone found the key of the door yet? I wonder what's on the other side.. Grin

Angry, hooray for you! Fantastic news. So glad you didn't have to wait any longer. Smile

Jane, well done on your appt too. Bound to be a bit wobble making, but the main thing is no sign of cancer, so three cheers for that. Smile

Amber, stop panicking - I'll take a shift for you on the paranoia box though, as I know that's a daft thing to say. Grin

Can't read all properly now as I have to keep working and also make some cakes for yet another wretched cake sale tomorrow.

1step, I see you've gone to bed - sensible move. I'll post a bit on mastectomy tomorrow.

Gig, I'll have a think and see if I can remember anything about rads too - though obviously the key thing is to find the best cafe you can find close to the hospital for daily treats. Smile

MAS, hope book club was okay. Am sending you vibes for no more bad dreams. Night all xx Smile

KurriKurri · 15/03/2012 20:18

Night Smee - waves feebly Smile xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 15/03/2012 23:10

Morning :) Friday today thank goodness :) Off to work in a bit, then its the weekend! No fbs for me today :( overdid them yesterday, but may have a bacon sandwich at work, because, did I say? its FRIDAY!

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2012 07:34

go for it jane !
No dreams to speak of !

OP posts:
topsyturner · 16/03/2012 07:45

Morning all

Yippee jane for Fridays Grin
When you get that bacon sarnie can you throw a few on the fbs trolley please ?

Thank goodness for a horrid dream free night mas . You may be interested to know that my DS dreamed that his dad brought him home a pizza box full of hamsters the other night !
Analyse that one Grin

DDs class is hosting the school assembly at 9am . They are telling the story of St Patrick . So far I have heard of parrot costumes , leprechauns who want to be cowboys , and DD is a pirate !
Am boggling already !!!

Best get showered if I'm to get there on time . See you all later .
Hope anyone with appointments today is ok . Amber Harry the Heart Monitor goes back today doesn't it ? Good luck with the results .

Gigondas · 16/03/2012 08:01

I would like one too. Late night, then mini woke up but didn't actually feed but I couldn't get back to sleep. Nanny in but in a sulk (getting a pack lunch for midi which I have already 2/3 made an effort). So the lazy start to day is blown . Have to take mini for her first jabs later so predict an unsettled afternoon. Early night for me I think . Oh and dss on FB posting has to do 2500 essay before midday so has asked his gf to confiscate his Xbox cable... He posted this 2 hours ago...

The rads tips are great (ESP finding a cafe). I can't say I am relishing it but at the moment I just see it as something to get out way . Maybe thinking like this as the benefits of it are really big for me but also where it is is awkward but not as sensitive ad could be (and am used to bum pain/having no dignity after pregnancy Wink).

I am definitely going a big cup of coffee with my bacon roll.

Any good weekend plans ? Rugby day here tomorrow so got family lunch before hand.

Sometimesiwonder · 16/03/2012 10:00

Woo hoo thread 21!!!!!

Angryfeet - best news. What a relief. x Poor Mrs Corbett though. Sad

No, I'm not poorly. In fact - guess what?

Drum roll.......

I've just got some more new work. Shock Well, they say things happen in threes, and now here's the proof. Grin

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 10:09

Morning everyone Smile - I'm feeling reasonably sprightly today - a bit less dog tired after just 2 days of pills - which is great Smile

topsy - well done your DD for getting pirates and parrots into the story of St Patrick, she sounds great - decide what you want and fit the story round it is definitely the way to go Grin

re your DS's dream - I would be suspecting that unbeknown to you, his dad has promised him a hamster! Grin

Hooray for weekend jane - have a good day at work today.

Gig - that's the best way to think of any treatment as a positive, - they all have side effects, but they are very effective treatments - and side effects are a sign the treatment is working.
With rads I found that the skin damage etc. was a relatively short lived thing in the big picture (obviously a bit like healing after a baby it feels like a pain and feels like ages when you have it going on) and there's a fair amount they can do to help.

Another tip I had was to wear clothing inside out so seams didn't rub on the sore bits (so if you have something like jogging bottoms you could wear round the house and turn them wrong way round). - Radiographers often have tips up their sleeves which patients have passed on to them Smile

You will end up feeling tired from it (or extra tired given you have a tinyGig) - and that might take a bit longer in terms of recovery - pace yourself as much as possible is my best tip - don't try to do too much just because you feel a little bit better one day, or you'll feel shattered the next, - so lots of breaks whenever you can. Smile It feels daunting - but you will get there Smile xx

Morning MAS - glad you enjoyed your evening and no bad dreams Smile

Brew anyone?

KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 10:11

X-posted Sometimes - get you! - Mrs InDemand or what? Grin - well done you Smile

Sometimesiwonder · 16/03/2012 10:12

Gig -I would also add that rads make you feel a bit down. So treats are the way forward.

Sometimesiwonder · 16/03/2012 10:13

Ha ha - it'll never last Grin

topsyturner · 16/03/2012 10:35

Well done sometimes about the new work , don't over do it though !

Rads tips ? I did 5 weeks of rads , and the worst part for me was baring myself to the rads ladies . But they were such a lovely group of women that I soon got over it .
Top tip is to try and get early appointments , cos they don't half run late by the afternoon !

I did burn pretty badly by the end , make sure you get yourself checked out by either the rads nurse or your GP . They really helped me .

Assembly over , DD made a wonderful pirate . Will try to post a pic on my profile . Not sure if I can do it from my phone .

Just made pancakes , lemon and sugar everyone ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2012 10:40

wow sometimes - you are on a roll !!

kk v glad you are feeling less tired- hooray for the pills Grin
Good luck with Harry the Heart Monitor today amber
topsy hope the ST P's assembly goes well - I used to love the school assemblies on that day- our headmaster gave out green sweeties and all the Irish children (lots of them, being a Catholic primary) had clumps of shamrock on their jumpers,or green ribbony things- I was always really envious.
Off to post a picture and to find something for my ma for Mothers Day

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 16/03/2012 10:42

ooh pancakes -yes please.
Gig agree about the feeling down after end of rads. I did manage to illustrate a book during rads, which was good for me to do- had worried I wouldn't be able to as the main part of the day was wiped out by travelling and waiting, but it was all fine and dandy.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 16/03/2012 10:48

yes please to pancakes topsy (and pic) Smile

Good luck with Harry the monitor, amber Smile

topsyturner · 16/03/2012 10:50

Darn it , can't figure out how to add pic from phone .
Have put one on Facebook if anyone wants a gander .
