But shimmy - does that mean we should unconditionally accept everyones religious beliefs??? There are some that are quite horrifying! Where do you draw the line.

I cannot and will not accept that there is no need for an anaesthetic.... or else why is one given when performing a circumcision for medical reasons!??

So again shimmy.... its not the reasons for doing it..... its the fact NO ANAESTHETIC IS USED!

I'm starting to sound like a stuck record.... but my point just not seem to be getting across

oliveoil · 29/11/2005 11:55

dh is circumsised as he was born in Canada and it is the norm there (or was then).

It works fine and he hasn't any complaints but obv is not able to compare sex before and after!

Being a tart and having seen a few, I can say it is nicer than with than one with a foreskin .

If we had had a son we would not have had him done unless for medical reasons, yes he would look different than daddy but it's not as if they would get them out regularly to compare is it?

Sackache - I am sure your fetish on pain relief was answered earlier re making area swollen, I think someone posted? Go and lie down girl.

My lips are sealed.

Sackache - am not sure enough of the facts to debate the anaesthetic thing. Only know that dh did have one when he had his religious circumscision. Have to agree with your logic on that one.

reminds me of my NCT teacher explaining that birth without pain relief was better as it allowed you to really 'experience' birth and bond with your baby. Total bollocks and I've wanted to scratch that woman's eyes out ever since my very painful drug free birth

Furball · 29/11/2005 12:01

SackAche - I nearly posted that for you, as I too feel the same.

SackAche · 29/11/2005 12:02

OO - Yeah but that was kind of thrown out by a link that suggested that was mince!

SackAche · 29/11/2005 12:05

Shimmy - exactly! People that haven't experienced it have no business deciding how painful it is.

Can you imagine the outcry if a woman with no kids came on MN saying "I read about it and decided that its not that painful afterall and therefore don't see there was any need for pain relief during childbirth!" OMG She'd be hunted down and circumsized!

hub2dee · 29/11/2005 12:08

harpy... was trying to upload to member profiles but the file size limit was too small.

SackAche · 29/11/2005 12:09

Men just love a thread about penises! Even if it does involve cutting bits off of them.

oliveoil · 29/11/2005 12:09

mince???

Is this a scottish expression for utter crap (manc expression)?

SackAche · 29/11/2005 12:10

LOL Olive - Take it you didn't read the 'scottish phrase' thread. Yes... it means bollocks.

oliveoil · 29/11/2005 12:10

smellymelly · 29/11/2005 12:19

OMG I feel sick, just looking at the photos of the procedure is enough to make me want to rant too!!!

I am Jewish, and I chose not to have either of my ds's 'done'. Couldn't bear it, think it is mutilation too... sorry, but I do.

Of course I also know men who have had to have it done because medically it is too tight, and that is their choice etc.

And from a womens point of view, foreskins are so much better for sexual reasons!

MistleToo · 29/11/2005 12:21

ew - no I don't like circumcised ones - they look naked!

Tatties · 29/11/2005 12:23

"Thus, circumcision in babyhood can be a very sensible decision - especially for a single mum with a boy and no man around the house." - and a doctor said this. Jeepers.

Mymama, you said that you couldn't find a doctor in QLD who would perform circumcision with anaesthetic. Does that mean that all babies circumcised in QLD have it done without anaesthetic?
Is it the done thing in Australia to have baby boys circumcised?

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 29/11/2005 12:27

Penises look stupid anyway, with or without! Let's face it, you just can't make a penis look any nicer or 'tidier'. I think it's about time men faced up to the fact that they have an abnormality growing in their nether regions!

Nightynight · 29/11/2005 12:29

Sackache - as I said already, I wouldnt be happy getting a child circumcised who was too young to understand what was happening and say how they felt.

Blu - in answer to your question, I quizzed dx on that point! We actually discussed it in a lot of detail, so I am satisfied that he wouldnt have put our sons in for it just to be like everyone else. He is an ex-Muslim, which is VERY hard to be in a Muslim country! so you can see that he doenst care what other people think.
He didnt say that it was pain free, but that it stung for a moment. He has gone against traditions in many things, and I am sure that if he felt that anaesthetic was necessary, he would have made sure that the ds's had it.

suzywong · 29/11/2005 12:39

Don't make me give you a Chinese burn OO
I'm seeing him on Sunday ( me and thousands others..and the Foos - hurrah)

oliveoil · 29/11/2005 12:56

Give him my love (and his helmet).

suzywong · 29/11/2005 12:57

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 29/11/2005 12:58

Oi! OliveOil, get yer bum over here!

nooka · 29/11/2005 22:10

Of course female circumcision is illegal...
