Softmusk - I only post this because you yourself seem to say you are not sure about it. If you are not happy to have a little boy circumcised and there are no religious reasons in your DH's thinking, would you like more information about why it is not necessarily beneficial, or medically necessary?

These days far fewer babies are circumcised unless for religious reasons.

spidermama · 28/11/2005 11:36

I hope you have a girl.

SackAche · 28/11/2005 11:40

Spidermama - I sooooooo wanted to post that!

I hope you have a healthy baby and are able to take this very private and personal decision between yourselves as a family without worrying about a bunch of strangers on an internet site

crunchie · 28/11/2005 11:52

Saxkache, You promised me Step away from this thread NOW!!!!!

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 28/11/2005 11:58

Come off it guys. Rant on a different thread. We know how you feel, but this is where opinion's differ and you have to respect other people's religious beliefs and opinions too. My brother was circumcised by his birth mother, not sure why, but he certainly isn't traumatised by it nor has it made any difference to him whatsoever. In fact, he says that he helped me to pull more! Girls were curious about what it looked it!

crunchie · 28/11/2005 12:02

Cliff, I can understand different peoples views - being jewish I would have any boy baby circumcised, BUT Softmusk is not sure, so we need to see both sides.

However can we try to be respectful and NOT use mutilation/child abuse etc on the posts against it. That is what caused all the upset last time didn't it Sackache

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 28/11/2005 12:03

How come we haven't heard back from Softmusk? This wouldn't be a 'stirrer' would it?

Blu · 28/11/2005 12:05

Come back Softmusk! This is your thread, but as you see, you have inadvertently asked a q which has been hotly debated in the past! Hope you got the factual info you needed - or will ask more q's if your 'I'm not sure' referred to the issue of circucision, or the practicalities.

Blu · 28/11/2005 12:07

Cliff - no, she wouldn't. Check 'search' first?

Its a private and personal decision to slap your child across the face..... doesn't make it right! You at the palaver that smacking a child caused!!!

sorry crunchie.... its horrible and makes me sad when I hear about it being done with no anaesthetic<

Don't know if I'd go as far as call it mutilation though!!

We're entitled to our opinions.... isn't that what everyone on MN harps on about. Well thats mine.

SackAche · 28/11/2005 12:37

You remember the palaver....

Oh I would say this to someones face if they were thinking of having their child circumcised for no medical reason and without anaesthetic.... so I don't see why I should fanny around about this subject on a bloody web site!
hmph.

crunchie · 28/11/2005 12:37

Happymumof2 I just don't want this to desend to the level that happened last time, when a lot of people got upset. I am not asking you to be sensitive for religious reasons I am simply asking for people to try not to offend if possible.

Last time it became a horrible personally offensive thread, I am all for rational discussion, but if people can put their views forward without getting personal and accusations flying around.

Thanks

If it helps Softmusk, there is a private service you can find \link {www.circumcision-agency.com\here}(www.circumcision-agency.com).

Agree with Twiglett completely. This is softmusks choice, nobody elses. Good luck with your choice, Softmusk.

uwila · 28/11/2005 12:49

Grr... here (

CliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 28/11/2005 12:50

Happymum, I do not like to see children's ears pierced as it is done for purely decorative purposes and I think they are beautiful as they are. However I realise that this is my opinion and I certainly would not force it onto others. If a mother chooses to have her baby's ears pierced, than that is her business.

I feel the same way about circumcision. I understand the reasons people want to have it done, I also understand the health reasons for having it done. I would not do it myself but would never slag off a mother who lets her baby be circumcised.

The law states that it is NOT child abuse, so wish people would stop using that term. They only call it this to shock and draw attention to their point.

If you feel strongly about this then I suggest you heed your own parps (always thought they were useless, now I KNOW they are!) and simply not post.

Sorry, the parping comment was directed at those who parped this thread, but came back to post anyway! I hate parping too, it's not big and it's not clever! (smells terrible too!)

SackAche · 28/11/2005 13:01

But Crunchie - My only serious gripe is the lack of aneasthetic! If they must... then surely they could have an anaesthetic!?! Surely? Or else why do the NHS waste money on anaesthetising the area if it doesn't actually hurt (as I've heard in some discussions PAH!).

OMG Crunchie - Does that mean we agree?????

In the last thread that degraded to the lowest levels I came out of it thinking "fair enough, but use an anaesthetic". Don't think thats too brutal to say that is it??????????????

There isn't a reason not to use an anaesthetic, which is what pisses me off.
