Labour - DH wanted to vote Reform but couldn't be bothered.
Ours has been a safe Tory seat forever so will be interesting as they have lost a huge number of voters, so for once I'm actually interested in how it might affect our local area

Reform.

Omg. Why?

Flyhigher · 05/07/2024 02:51

NoNameNoOne · 04/07/2024 16:33

Reform although to be honest none of them represent my opinions. I voted reform just to show I want to see REFORM in the parties and of the stale, lying, political elite we have, rather than thinking they were getting in. Hubby safely voted Labour which our area has and will always be.

Omg. They are racist. You know that don't uou?

Flyhigher · 05/07/2024 02:54

Labour in a safe Labour seat

The reform is frightening.

I'm not surprised by the Reform numbers. A lot of them have defected from conservatives. I know a few Reform voters, they all live in very quaint 'white' towns and villages and think we can go back to the 1950s if we're lucky.

Many votes from reform are from Labour supporters too.

Paul2023 · 05/07/2024 06:39

Tunbride Wells have gone Lib Dem! That’s shocking!

Always been a very safe Tory seat.

DontBiteTheCat · 05/07/2024 06:48

Liz Truss has lost her seat! Brilliant!

Paul2023 · 05/07/2024 06:50

Jonathan Ashworth for Labour has lost his seat ! I’m surprised

Paul2023 · 05/07/2024 06:53

Liz Truss just walked off without saying congratulations to the Labour candidate, even after 14 years of being the MP!

What a piece of work she is.

Netcam · 05/07/2024 07:04

Just woke up. So happy. Even the Tory stronghold where I've lived for 20 years has been wiped out. Good riddance Anthony Browne.

Leicester results are odd, Leicester east has gone from safe labour to conservative!! Then Jonathan ashworth safe labour to independent

greengreyblue · 05/07/2024 07:11

Female Labour mp has won my area. So happy.Been blue for years.

How does a tactical vote work though? Why don't you vote for the party you want?

Well this time it actually ended up being both. I live in a very safe Conservative constituency with LD usually second and I wanted to lend a hand in closing the gap and maybe if we got lucky getting the Tory out. Ended up that the Tory vote went from over 60% in 2019 down to 36% this time and the left vote divided between LD and Labour, LD with 24% and Labour with 15%. If they had pooled together we would have a new MP.

I’m a paid up, card carrying member of the Labour Party but their candidate wasn’t local, while the Lib Dems put up a local councillor who is active in the area, so this time it happened that I’d prefer to be represented by him anyway. Bit miffed that Labour even stood a candidate here tbh, they found him last minute from some London council so I never believed he stood a chance.

Warmhandscoldheart · 05/07/2024 07:55

Congratulations to you all with the Mp you wanted.
I voted Labour but thanks to the racist majority, and the 44% who couldn't be bothered to vote, my town now has a Reform MP. Well done Gt Yarmouth, darker days ahead

StampOnTheGround · 05/07/2024 08:09

Well my safe conservative seat is now a labour seat!

Way more Labour around you now, though on the bright side (and Lib Dem and even Green). The Blue Lump is barely Blue any more.

I watched this live and I can't abide the woman but that isn't true. I watched them shake hands.

Did Leicester East get its boundaries redrawn? Mid Beds went back to the Tories - it lost nearly all its urban , young population in redrawing of boundaries. Hitchin went Red after gaining one of those towns and Dunstable Labour after becoming a constituency.

The Jonathan Ashworth vote is Palestine related, I'd guess.

How do you explain the black Reform candidates then? They don't think the party is racist, clearly.

And Wes Streeting barely held on to his. That would have been interesting given his high profile on health.

Yes, I have friends in Leicester who voted for the independent MP who won. They said he had very high support in the community and Jon lost a huge amount after he abstained from the Gaza ceasefire vote. Exit polls showed it was likely to be Labour still but the independent won by around a thousand votes.

Also very close, only held on by around 500 votes. The independant MP Leanne also had massive support and I actually thought she was going to win.

dougalfromthemagicroundabout · 05/07/2024 09:16

All the people on here saying all reform voters are racist are saying they think all the BAME people voting for reform are racist. Which is a little bit, well, racist, to say you know better the motivations of a BAME person than they do? Reform had quite a few BAME candidates.

Unfortunately this attitude seems prevalent in Labour. Reform are said to have got 14% of the vote, a greater vote share than the Lib Dems. Labour have a duty to understand and represent those voters now they're in power.

Mt61 · 05/07/2024 10:02

Hiphopopotamonster · 04/07/2024 18:30

God the number of racist and idiotic Reform votes. I don’t know how some of you sleep at night.

I would imagine they probably sleep better than all the racist (anti-Semitic) Labour voters. How can anyone who votes for Labour call other party supporters racist? Gaslighting at its finest.

nomoretoriesforme · 05/07/2024 10:21

@Mt61 I agree with you - total gaslighting and arrogance
