Noticed the current thread is almost full so thought I better start a new one for discussing results day and our DC’s plans for uni/gap years or anything else!

Good luck everyone! Let the tears of relief and pride flow freely!

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 15/08/2024 08:06

DS is in :) I peeked at his STEP results when I got up so I was fairly confident at that point but nice to see the green tick on UCAS :) He got up at about 7.50 and seems very happy. Waiting for email from college to confirm his results.

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 08:07

Yes @WriterOfWrongs

Well done to @Rollergirl11 DD and @Penguinsa DD 💪

MrsAvocet · 15/08/2024 08:08

DS has his firm! So relieved and happy for him. We'll go into school for the actual grades at our leisure now, but frankly neither he nor I really care that much about the actual letters now that he has his green tick!
Great to hear all the other positive news and good luck to those still waiting.

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 08:09

Congratulations to everyone and good luck to everyone waiting.

socks1107 · 15/08/2024 08:10

Dd got her first choice and over her predicted grades! I can breathe now

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 08:13

I had to wake DH up again to tell him🤔and he was like what? How do you know? Um e-mail from DD with a photo of the presume UCAS thing. Then what time is it?

sammyjoanne · 15/08/2024 08:15

@PuddingtonPuddington Thats amazing your DC has Lancaster for Mphys. Daughter graduated from there in July and off to uni of manchester for a phd in particle physics. Mphys department has been superb and she did a couple of internships, and the support shes had during her degree has been amazing. :)

It is my firm belief that every child with a pushy parent (not a slight - I'm one!) needs one parent like this for balance.

I hope your DD can celebrate today!

sammyjoanne · 15/08/2024 08:15

@Rollergirl11 congratulations :)

WobblyLondoner · 15/08/2024 08:16

DS got exactly what the school predicted and has been accepted by his firm! So proud of him.

A rookie question - his UCAS page shows his place has been confirmed - does he have to do anything himself now on the system? I was assuming there would be a ‘I accept’ button to press or something!

sammyjoanne · 15/08/2024 08:18

@WobblyLondoner congrats and no he does not need to do anything :)

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 08:18

No @WobblyLondoner, no acceptance needed. Next thing will probably be an email from the uni with various instructions about accommodation, enrolling, choosing modules, arrival slots etc etc

MirandaWest · 15/08/2024 08:20

DD is into Bristol 😃 She had a big wobble opening UCAS but the big green tick was there 😊

Shes been picked up by a friend and they’ve gone off to school so she’ll find out her grades soon. I feel a bit superfluous at home now!

Jaxx · 15/08/2024 08:22

He’s going to Durham! Massive relief.

Great to see so much good news coming in.

Rollergirl11 · 15/08/2024 08:24

Well done @MirandaWest and @Jaxx !!! 👏👏

Yes @WriterOfWrongs

Well done to @Rollergirl11 DD and @Penguinsa DD 💪

Thanks Stoney.

DD is very upset. Her grades are several grades lower than predicted.

congrats to everyone!

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 08:35

Sorry to hear that @WriterOfWrongs

Is she happy to go to her insurance? This happens to loads and loads of people, she is not alone. Loads and loads will have been rejected by both choices this morning too. Everything will be ok though.

PumpkinKnitter · 15/08/2024 08:35

Congratulations to everyone with good news! DD has had her place confirmed by Edinburgh which has been her dream uni since before GCSEs, so much joy here. Gone to school now to pick up results. And as for sleep ... what is that?

LIZS · 15/08/2024 08:40

WriterOfWrongs · 15/08/2024 08:05

DD has just received confirmation that she got in to her insurance - does that mean she didn’t get her firm?

Unfortunately it does. Firm will have considered her place on basis of the grades and declined. If it was a narrow miss a phone call to firm might be worthwhile or look at clearing if she is not happy with insurance.

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 08:40

So sorry for your DD Writer sending big hugs. I do think once you have a degree nobody cares about the A level grades and I hope she can find somewhere she is happy with.

Congrats to everyone for getting through the A levels.

PumpkinKnitter · 15/08/2024 08:42

I'm sorry she is having to deal with a curve ball@WriterOfWrongs, but hopefully she likes her insurance choice. If not, then there are lots of options - re-marks, retakes, gap year, clearing. Hopefully everything will soon feel a lot brighter for her.

SooperOuting · 15/08/2024 08:47

DD into first choice - Uni of Nottingham. She’s over the moon 🍾🎉🥳

Tulipvase · 15/08/2024 08:56

Mine has their first choice but a grade below in one subject. Is it worth a re mark? It is a surprise result, a B instead of an A. Can school get a copy of the paper and see what they think?

MirandaWest · 15/08/2024 08:59

DD got the grades she wanted 😃
