Noticed the current thread is almost full so thought I better start a new one for discussing results day and our DC’s plans for uni/gap years or anything else!

Just woke DS up. Need to be at school for 8am. There are some great clearing options. There is a separate thread with links if anyone may need it later.

York in clearing for DS subject with BBC (originally AAB)

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 07:13

There does seem to be a lot of good stuff in clearing - DD's insurance is there at BBB (her offer is AAA), so that takes the pressure off a bit.

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 07:15

DH and I got woken up by ze Floof at 6.25am for his tuna and DH kindly made me a cup of tea. DD seems to be asleep still and said before she is going out pre 8am to meet up with a friend and get results together. Seeing as DD rarely gets up on non-working days before 12 ish will see if that happens.

Hope everyone gets what they need. Not sure when I will know. I have hospital at 12pm now after my moaning for endo for the condition I don't have so will leave here around 11am and DD is supposed to be going on after. Though all the plans seem very fluid. Think it depends who gets what and how they feel.

Rollergirl11 · 15/08/2024 07:20

Woke up at 4.30 and couldn’t get back to sleep for an hour. Then in and out of sleep for another hour. Have an awful headache. DD said to wake her at 7.30. She’s checking UCAS for 8am and we’re heading in to college for 8am. I heard her go to the toilet at least twice in the night which is unheard of for her so I’m guessing she didn’t sleep well.

Not long now everyone.

We are all up and counting the minutes. Been awake on and off since 5am so I think it'll be a long day for us all!
Good luck everyone hope they get what they need

I saw that too @PuddingtonPuddington. DD has said he'd choose his insurance over York though which is a shame as York is the better uni on paper. Still he has to love it and it's his choice. Fingers crossed for your ds. Was it Lancaster he put as his firm in the end? If I remember rightly our DSs are both studying the same course.

WobblyLondoner · 15/08/2024 07:26

Just had a quick look at clearing before DS gets up. His second choice at York is in clearing but with the same grades he has been offered - a shame as I am worried that his second choice is only one grade lower than his first. Eek - good luck everyone.

WriterOfWrongs · 15/08/2024 07:37

Good luck everyone!

I feel sick. Great to know about good clearing options.

Yes Lancaster MPhys first choice but it was between Lancaster and York which was a very close second. However as they were the same grades he put a different lower offer as insurance which he now doesn’t want. Good luck to your DS

aramox1 · 15/08/2024 07:44

Even with the same grades required, flexibility will vary at different universities ! Good luck all

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 07:44

Heard DDs alarm go off at 7.30am and ring for quite a while. Just heard her light switch go and she's just came over for a 5 minute chat saying grade boundaries released for some things and says she's meeting her friend at 7.45am. Its now 7.43am and she's doing her teeth and talking to Floof. Though did say she will come back after meeting friend and before we leave for hospital at 11.15. Eek.

Penguinsa · 15/08/2024 07:51

Just left. She said if she hadn't put an alarm on for 7.30am she would still be fast asleep now and said the alarm took a long time to wake her up and that she went to sleep at 11pm, woke up for a second at 2am and decided not to do her phone. And slept through.

TenSheds · 15/08/2024 07:52

Urgh, breakfast was probably a bad idea with anxious stomach. Thought I'd slept ok till I looked at the clock and saw it was only 1:30am... Today will be fuelled by caffeine. Good luck everyone

MirandaWest · 15/08/2024 07:53

I need to go and prod DD to make sure she’s awake soon (she did ask me to do that).

Woke at 6 which I was quite impressed with and went for a run

Hahaha that’s the worst feeling in the world isn’t it when you’re anxious! Like how can it only be that time??!!

DS1 just left to go in.
Got butterflies for him and a big, fat lump in my throat as I shut the front door after saying goodbye 😬

There's a nest of housemartins in our eaves and the chicks are squeaking...don't know why but it set me off, getting all sentimental and wondering where the last 18 years disappeared to...😭What a stupid sight, standing in the garden, in my pj's, snivelling at the birdies😆
Wishing all your DC's the very best this morning everyone!🎉

Jaxx · 15/08/2024 07:58

I am so nervous.

My son is about 10 minutes away from his school so I will probably know before him.

Thankfully plenty of options at good universities for his course.

Bathh82 · 15/08/2024 07:59

I wonder if BBC are going to do their usual thing where students open their results live. I always assumed that teachers would put forward students they knew had done well but there was one boy that opened it last year or year before that didn't get what he wanted:-(

stoneysongs · 15/08/2024 08:02

DD is into her firm, UCL, don't know grades yet though 🥳

Lightsabre · 15/08/2024 08:02

Ds in! UCAS took forever to load, not sure of grades yet.

Rollergirl11 · 15/08/2024 08:03

DD has got in to her firm of Exeter! Now to go to college for results. 👏🤪

Oxford confirmed, she's in.

Rollergirl11 · 15/08/2024 08:05

Well done @stoneysongs, @Lightsabre and @Penguinsa!!!

DD has just received confirmation that she got in to her insurance - does that mean she didn’t get her firm?
