@Benjispruce4 you are being out through the wringer, I hope U of S get back to you v v soon so you all can relax.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:35

Thanks @Fruitygal just feeling exhausted from trying to keep her pecker up.
Can she apply for more than one course at a time on clearing?

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 15:35

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 18/08/2022 14:42

Dd is adamant to take the Cardiff place now. I've made her apply to Sussex course just incase, over next 24 hours she has to decide what's more important course content or distance to home.
My personal view is that she will thrive at Cardiff as the course is what she wants. They were so friendly and supportive. That will help her mental health. It is a bit further away, but then again Sussex is still 1 hour and half away. She'll be busy anyhow , whereever she goes and miss boyfriend.

I won't go into too much detail but DH being a bit of an arse about it . I've grassed him up to his Mum though.

Cinnamon I know that Cardiff course and sept - it is really good. And the first term is common with the three non geological streams so she can change to eg marine geography if she prefers that, and the first year is common to all the geological streams so she could also choose to move to one of those courses after 1st year. Tge cohort across all six courses is really close because of that common first term/year. The dept is excellent and in the main white wedding cake building of the uni. Cardiff is a great city (much nicer than Southampton and walkable from uni to town, which Southampton is not) - I think it will be a really good choice.

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 15:36

And dept (not sept!)

singingstones · 18/08/2022 15:36

Everything crossed for you Benji - yes she can approach other unis while she's waiting and that way might end up with a few to choose from, nothing to lose

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:37

Im so frustrated. She’s now asleep!!!

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 15:39

DSs friend is off to Oxford to study history. He got an A....

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 15:41

I’ve gone mad. Who was talking about environmental (geo) science at Cardiff and elsewhere ? It wasn’t cinnamon - she is music. Anyway that’s who my previous posts were meant for! Sorry cinnamon!

PhotoDad · 18/08/2022 15:42

Well done to everyone, and I hope that those still hanging on get resolution soon. I was really delighted that my DD got decent grades (she had an unconditional offer for art school but worked on and took the exams seriously despite difficult circumstances).

The downside is that I spent this morning with one of my students. Let's just say that I am not a fan of the "Cambridge Summer Pool" and how it messes up Clearing. (It's a 'second chance' for people who narrowly miss their Cambridge offer; other colleges can look at the application. However, it adds days to the decision process, and you'd have thought it could all have been done in advance of Results Day!)

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn OMG DD is the same with History. That is so interesting your DS is in the same boat. DD Was convinced she would have got higher especially as she got an A* in her coursework (well unless it got moderated) and also felt the questions went her way but is happy to have got her B - it was a high B but not super close to an A so not going to re-mark. One of her teachers phoned her up to congratulate her and did say she got 18/20 on a Witchcraze question where normally the teacher sees most gain 12/13. Her England topic teacher hasn't been in touch so no idea on his papers breakdown. He isn;'t likely to get in touch as he never answered email anyway. Seems they marked harshly this year then which is tough on our cohort. One of her friends didn't get his Uni choice reading History and had to opt for a different course so it mucked him up.

Did your DD do Edexcel also? I'm finding it strange that he did so well in his less favoured subjects and not this. I have emailed the history teacher to see if he got marks for each paper as the biology teacher did. I'm wondering if he just messed up on question really badly. I'm not sure we'd appeal it, just want to know where it went pear shaped really.

Was he predicted higher? Just trying to get a feel of what peoples expectations were.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 15:48

@Benjispruce4 I'm so sorry you're going through this, I really hope things get sorted soon so you can relax finally. Flowers

AnneOfCleavage · 18/08/2022 15:48

@ParvuliThankYouDebbie I can definitely recommend Chichester. DD looked round it three times and firmed it and got accepted this morning. She is thrilled. She felt it was such a friendly Uni compared to others she'd looked round and it seemed it would be the perfect choice pastorally for her too as all the tutors and reception staff were so friendly and helpful. Is your DD hoping to do Dance or drama or a sport?

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 15:49

Sorry if I've missed anyone - haven't said Congratulations to anyone. I have been working very hard and done a massive financial report today that I've been working on for nearly a week. I haven't read every post. Will try and do so tonight.

Yes, Pearson Edexcel here too. Oh, do you think it's worth a re-mark then as DD was on the higher side of a B but within the tolerance so her school think it wouldn't be considered for a re-mark? is that laziness of the school?

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 15:52

Have woken DD up and she’s phoning Sheffield. No experience of this as DD1 sailed through to Durham.

singingstones · 18/08/2022 15:57

Benji in a day or two this will feel like a bad dream and she will be all excited about what's coming next. Hang in there, what a shitty day you're having Flowers

Sorry you are going through it @Benjispruce4 , @singingstones is right. So hard whilst you are going through it.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 18/08/2022 16:00

@AnneOfCleavage I wasn't necessarily thinking of a remark as he would need to gain about 12 extra marks to move a grade and that seems unrealistic. We just thought about seeing the marked script and seeing if there was anything really obviously wrong if you know what I mean.

Yes, A *.

DS got as predicted, mind.

Decorhate · 18/08/2022 16:01

@AnneOfCleavage Ds also just got the overall mark for each subject whereas I’m sure his siblings got the breakdown by paper.

crazycrofter · 18/08/2022 16:02

@AnneOfCleavage @JustHereWithMyPopcorn dd is in the same position but it’s AQA. The school said because it’s not priority I should email them on 5th Sept to request they get the scripts to look at and then go from there.

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee dd went to visit her friends in Cardiff earlier in the week and said she couldn’t understand why she hadn’t applied there! She really likes the city.

one of DD’s friends had a Cambridge offer and got 2 A* but his Music wasn’t marked - or something along those lines - so he doesn’t know whether he’s in yet. The poor lad has been in and out of hospital all year with health problems too 😬

boxcar · 18/08/2022 16:03

@Piggywaspushed @Appuskidu DD not checking her emails. She’s said ‘that’s daft, I’m not worrying about accommodation today!’ She can’t remember what she put either so it would mean starting from scratch. She’s currently doing her hair & make up ready to go out & celebrate! Do you know if the Birmingham accommodation slots are today or just the email? I’ve requested to join the Facebook group but am still ‘pending’. I would never have known about it if it weren’t for your posts so thank you!
