DD gone back to bed. We really don’t know what happened as she thought bio and geo went well. She’s been getting a A’s on all her mocks. It’s a shock and I feel a bit sick

I hope you are starting to feel a bit better and she is too. X

2A* and an A here - missed the third star by one mark so school recommend a remark. But she's into her firm so it's immaterial either way. I am so very proud of her.

Congratulations to all who are celebrating today, and commiserations to those who are disappointed. This board has been so supportive - thank you everyone for making this such a friendly space.

A star
A star
A (2 marks off an A star)!

For those of you who know Dd’s circumstances, you’ll smile to know even the exam officer was in tears!

Oh Zanda ! Wonderful news I can imagine 😊

DS got AAB, up from CCU in Y12 and BCD in mocks 🌟
I will move on shortly but I am thinking a bit about his teachers who wouldn't predict anything higher than a C in physics and biology..

Keep your chins up those of you still fighting for your DC 💪

That’s so amazing singing, really well done him

MummaMinnie · 18/08/2022 11:43

DD got ABC (maths, physics, biology) after being predicted A*AA. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile checking how close she was to the grade boundaries. 🤔

She's got her insurance choice (UEA) but has been offered a foundation course at her first choice which she is keen to do.

Congrats to all who got their required results and hope everyone else is either happy with their next choice or finds a good alternative.

Meanwhile, what are the downsides to doing a foundation apart from the cost of an extra year? 😨

crazycrofter · 18/08/2022 11:43

Well done everyone, especially @Zebracat dd, I’m so pleased for her!

Sorry for those disappointed @Benjispruce4 @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee and others. Is it worth going for remarks?

Dd is in to Nottingham with A star, A, B. She’s disappointed with the B in history though, she usually gets A and had an A in her coursework. We want to go for a re mark, just to be sure. She was 4 marks off, so 2%. The exams officer wasn’t keen when dd spoke to her but I assume it’s our decision if we pay?

Doh! I meant ABC (maths, biology, physics) !! 🤪

Oh hi appu, just thinking about you!

Yes, and now waiting for the accommodation bunfight...

Yes-just what I was thinking-I can’t even remember what she put down first. Tennis Court, I think?!

Huge congrats to your DS :)

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 18/08/2022 11:47

What is others views on being offered the first choice course but with a foundation year? I thought that was a good result for dd under the circumstances it she’s not keen 🤷‍♀️

Delphigirl · 18/08/2022 11:49

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 11:33

Thanks @Delphigirl we have logged on and there is a letter there saying congrats and they will be in touch with next steps over the next few days

👍
DS has just got a congrats and welcome letter from Plymouth in the post (envelope, stamp, old style) so that’s pretty efficient!

The foundation year is not usually subject specific and so I wonder if it might be an unnecessary and slightly boring rehash of A levels for a kid who has just missed the mark.
My instinct is to take a degree place over a foundation place but I don’t have direct experience.

Totally depends on the student! May help them get some confidence if they are anxious, or may just be an uninspiring year. A friend's DS was on a course with a foundation year but got bumped up to the normal course by his tutor (Swansea).

I would get the scripts back first so you can target the ones most likely to gain marks. Which board?

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 11:55

I would have loved DD to a foundation year if she had missed her required grades.
A year to get used to living independently, without the pressure of workload, while learning study skills so that you hit year 1 running - sounds perfect!

singing, I am thrilled for your DS! Like you, I would be ruminating and having dark thoughts about that particular teacher.

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 12:06

Interesting Crazy. Re 4 marks off. And asking for scripts. And being discouraged for remark by teacher.

Ds1 has similar. Business - 4 marks off an A*.

Volterra · 18/08/2022 12:06

Thanks @Delphigirl . He exceeded predictions by a grade each on 2 of them despite being ill, very proud of his attitude to it all.

Another who has heard great things about Sheffield. Friend was saying they were great during covid.

Definitely agree is worth getting scripts for anything unexpected, pages get missed etc.

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 12:07

I don't see how they know how many marks off they were?

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 12:10

Hi all - roller coaster day! DS finally came home with his results.
Predicted BBC
Got AA B (and latter is one mark off an A - though not sure if worth even asking for a remark given it makes no difference re his uni place)

Hope others can get remarks where needed!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 12:10

When you say “ marks” do you mean UMS?
DD is a tiny bit disappointed with a B in English lit, as it is her degree subject.
Looks like she is 4 UMS off the A, so I’m wondering whether a review is worth it - she would have to go down a lot of marks to drop to a C, and English is such a subjective subject.

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 12:10

@NCTDN DS has been given his marks by the college, it’s on his online portal.
So we were able to compare them with the exam board grade boundaries, links posted in the thread

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 12:10

DD1 was at least 4 marks off grades in 2019. 2 remarks and went from AAB to A*AA.
DD2 waiting to hear from UofS after submitting interest.

Fiddlersgreen · 18/08/2022 12:11

Fingers crossed @Benjispruce4 how is she feeling now?

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 12:12

@Fiddlersgreen same. I think our DC have the same ABB requirement, BBC outcome.

Benjispruce4 · 18/08/2022 12:13

@Fiddlersgreen calmer thanks. Still wants to go out for lunch, I just want this call .
