The Notts Staines massive continues successfully.
Hope Heifer is ok.

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee Firstly, Cardiff is great for music and a great city for a musician, but you know that! Yes, she should call Southampton music dept, particularly if she was close to the grade boundary. You should also consider getting scripts back to see whether it is worth getting reviews of marking.

@Wheresthebeach I think you should be getting scripts back too. When a mark is really strange it can be a mistake or it could be that her teachers were not marking accurately. Hope she lets you help her, and it is good that she has a gap year, so no pressure to resolve things quickly. The deadline for requesting copies of scripts is 31/8, there is then another deadline for requesting reviews. Don't just get all the papers reviewed without seeing them first as you won't know which ones are worth sending back and some may go down. Hand hold over the wires. 🌻

@Oblomov22
💪
Heifer's DD is in!

NCTDN · 18/08/2022 09:55

DD got her firm choice Smile we're over the moon!

Wheresthebeach · 18/08/2022 09:56

Thanks @Monkey2001 that's really helpful.

Congrats to everyone else.

mango0 · 18/08/2022 09:56

I'm so emotional and still feel nauseous.

Dd's offer for Birmingham for Maths was AAA. She got A* Maths, A Further Maths, B Psychology and C English so didn't meet the requirements. It feels a bit harsh given her good Maths grades. I'm so proud of her excellent results.

So now she's going to Lancaster. Which she always loved on open days and seems happy about.

She seems pleased. Maybe a tiny bit disappointed, just not to have met the offer rather than not to be going to Birmingham I think. I probably feel more disappointed for her than she does for herself. And of course the Mam guilt, maybe I should have encouraged her to drop the 4th a level, maybe years ago I should have pushed for an assessment around her struggles etc etc.

God I'm an emotional wreck, I don't know what's the matter with me. Thankfully dd is upstairs. I need to give my head a shake. And go and refresh my Lancaster knowledge!

@Monkey2001 thanks for the words of reassurance about Lancaster Maths, I think it was for me?

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 18/08/2022 09:57

Yes @Comefromaway but worried as no places in clearing x Cardiff was tops for a while x thanks .

@Decorhate DS1's best friend missed Leeds by 1 grade in 2019 and they were completely inflexible, they are very popular at the moment, but both my DSs like Sheffield much more!

MrKlaw · 18/08/2022 09:58

DD had already decided to take a year off although she doens't have a concrete plan. She just couldn't quite figure out what she wanted to do, and was distracted by worries on her results - lots of messing around with her school, shared classes with the local boys school, bubble etc were not good for her.

She managed an ABC and I've just looked at some of the shortlisted courses she had been looking at - she'd have met those requirements so hopefully thats encoraging to her for next year.

(almost tempted to encourage a clearing application - they have courses available - partly for the loan changes. But I'll keep my mouth shut)

tryingmybest13 · 18/08/2022 09:59

. Well done to all - this has been a tough gig for each and every one of them. No results here as DS went off to school and likely won't see him for ages. He has his Firm, and that is all he cared about. Friend's DD confirmed for PPE at Oxford though got AAB (the latter an utter shock - exams are so random!!)

Alsoplayspiccolo · 18/08/2022 09:59

Tears here!

DD exceeded all expectations - predicted AAB, got BCD in mocks…and ended up with A*BA!!

Monkey, she went from a D to an A in geography, thanks to you!

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 10:01

Thanks Singing.

@Heifer
You too Heifer. ❤️

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2022 10:01

@mango0 , yes, sorry I got muddled by the flood of data on my poor menopausal brain. She will love Lancaster, and we all feel Mum-Guilt. If I had managed to catch the first 10 minutes of the match I filmed for him, he might have got an A* for PE. It doesn't matter, but I still feel guilty!

Oblomov22 · 18/08/2022 10:02

Congrats all.
Thinking of you Beach and Orange. Hope you get something sorted. Quickly.

Ha - did you go to the friend of a friend tutor? So pleased that whatever you did for her worked!

horrificbiology · 18/08/2022 10:03

@mango0 my DD is going to Lancaster doing Biology placement.

And the course is not in clearing. Just on my way to meet her at college. I'll let her call Southampton just i think it's a case of ruling it out.

Similar situation here, except dd hasn’t had a decision from Royal Holloway yet. Email from UCAS says sorry your Uni is still considering your application. She’s never got less than a B in music (usually As) but she got C and she’s sooo disappointed. However she did much better than expected in two others - including an A in EPQ. As she hadn’t got her results from Grade 8 yet she was allowed to submit a performance recording. Also her overall grades are above what RH are offering in clearing in music (they’re offering CCC). The wait is excruciating and she’s on the phone but on the hold music for about half hour now. But if they’re offering CCC in clearing, surely they’ll accept her won’t they?

loveislouderthanwar · 18/08/2022 10:04

My daughter got into her 1st choice UCLAN to study Journalism.

She's had a very rough time with depression & eating disorder etc...she didn't get her expected grades but I'm glad they could see the potential from all the interviews and written work she did for them.

Congrats to all of the students who managed to sit exams this year-they all deserve a place 💜💜

Monkey2001 · 18/08/2022 10:04

Oooh @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee our thread is trending on Mumsnet!!!

Sallyingon · 18/08/2022 10:05

ABB here and off to his firm at Lancaster. So pleased it worked out for him.
Hope everyone gets sorted today. Best of luck to you all

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 18/08/2022 10:05

Oh, and huge congratulations to everyone who got what they hoped for and to those who didn’t - don’t worry there’s something out there for you and frankly after the last few years of turmoil, you’re all amazing anyway, so there 😁

Chewbecca · 18/08/2022 10:07

DS got his firm Lboro confirmed and is very happy.

Exceeded his grades needed (AAA) with one A star and two As. Especially thrilled with the biology A, he put a lot of work in to drag that up from school prediction.

Congratulations to those who have what they wanted and hugs and fingers crossed for those working on their plan Bs.

sazzy5 · 18/08/2022 10:08

@Monkey2001 everything crossed you hear something. Your DS has done so well.

Piggywaspushed · 18/08/2022 10:09

Who else is Brum? I can't even remember what accommodation we spent hours selecting before they changed their system, or the prices!!

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/08/2022 10:10

@Monkey2001 fab results and fingers crossed for an offer from Newcastle

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee Cardiff will be fab, best to get her to phone Southampton otherwise will always be wondering if she should have phoned
