...water

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.

Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Just joining the new thread-DD is very pleased to have got Psychology 3 out of the way!

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2022 16:36

Just signing in !

I heard about AQA Law. It does seem to be AQA that have had a rather loose understanding of advanced information.

singingstones · 16/06/2022 16:38

🥳 Oblomov, good to hear he is over the finish line

Sorry to hear that Judy Flowers
The exam boards have made some big cock ups this year with the advance information

icanbewhatiwant · 16/06/2022 16:55

Ds1 popped home with some of his stuff as he's finished university. Long awaited trip to America is due to start Monday. He mentioned by text he had a sore throat. I suggested to dh that he gives Ds a covid test to do. I was at work and was sent a photo of the positive covid test. I hope he's negative by Sunday for his official covid test for travel. It was a faint line....so it's coming or going. Ds1 also shared a bottle of water with ds2 in Norwich yesterday when we were shopping.

Cantonet · 16/06/2022 17:29

Oh dear @icanbewhatiwant 😷.
Bad timing.
Ds has also finished today. I'm hoping he scraped a B & has done better than he thought in Psychology. It 's so frustrating that he never finishes, even with extra time. I think the combination of Dyslexia & Adhd with essay writing is hard.
The good thing is his allergy to the adhd pills seems to be reducing rather bizarrely.
@Oblomov22 i want some of your ds's confidence !

crazycrofter · 16/06/2022 17:33

Oh no @icanbewhatiwant - I hope he’s ok for the trip!

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeCinnamonCroissant and the stats @singingstones . My dd will be joining yours at Wembley on Sunday! She hasn’t mentioned needing a new outfit, but then she is still searching for the perfect prom dress - 2 more arrived in the post today.

Dd didn’t think AQA Psychology went too well and she didn’t finish either. She wants an A but it won’t matter for Nottingham if she gets a B. Ds said GCSE History 3 was an ‘easy 9’ 😂 I’ll believe it when I see it!

crazycrofter · 16/06/2022 17:35

@Cantonet ds doesn’t usually finish either, despite extra time and copious rest breaks. I think he’s finished maybe 2 out of the 18 papers he’s done so far. He seems to be a very slow reader. He’s not on the ADHD meds now but feels that the Aldi cold coffees work almost as well!

Decorhate · 16/06/2022 17:42

Thanks for the new thread. 2 more papers to go for Ds.

@icanbewhatiwant Fingers crossed for your ds’s travel plans.

it certainly seems to be still with us. Friend & her dh both have it & her FIL is very ill but of course they can’t visit him.

Seeline · 16/06/2022 17:44

DD was happy with AQA psych, but AQA business was just OK. Still that's them both done now.

She is really worried about bio tomorrow - paper 1 veered off the AI stuff quite a bit, so if that happens again she's a bit stuffed as she hasn't finished the AI topics yet ... Hopefully with a week until paper 3 she can pick up some extra marks there.

Cantonet · 16/06/2022 17:53

How many prom dresses is your DD up to now @CrazyCrofter? 😂
It's so tough for them in exams isn't it?
My other 2 with ADHD are fine & finish with the extra time. They say they don't need breaks.
DS also mis-read questions. He said he did that today in a 4 marker and I bet it was the causal relationship question. He would have read it as casual most probably.

Cantonet · 16/06/2022 18:00

I think we're at the beginning of a new wave @Decorhate. I'm just over 6 months vaccinated, so now susceptible.

BlueMarigold · 16/06/2022 18:39

Hello - I haven't been able to get onto Mumsnet on any of my devices for a long time. I gave up for a bit and then decided to try my laptop and it worked!

Sorry I have missed so much news. My DD has been ill but had to sit the exams anyway. We are just hoping for the best.

Monkey2001 · 16/06/2022 18:44

@icanbewhatiwant you no longer have to test before flying, so it is a moral judgement. www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/international-travel/index.html

Hard to say what is right, life has to go on!

icanbewhatiwant · 16/06/2022 18:46

@Monkey2001 thanks, but I think he needs proof of vaccination.

crazycrofter · 16/06/2022 19:38

@Cantonet she’s counted up and it’s only been 22 dresses so far 😂 feels like more to me!

EwwSprouts · 16/06/2022 19:45

@icanbewhatiwant Fingers crossed. I think it's a new wave round here. Four colleagues, none of whose paths cross, all positive in the last ten days. One works in the NHS and says it's been round their dept. Interestingly three of the four have not knowlingly had Covid previously but are vaccinated.

Thanks @Monkey2001 DS was AQA so if they're all in it together...

@OrangeCinnamonCroissant We holidayed in West Wittering last summer! Very nice part of the world. DS was gobsmacked by coaches in the beach car park. There are advantages to living somewhere less desirable Grin

Hattifatteners · 16/06/2022 19:46

Thank you for the new thread. I haven't been posting, but enjoy following the conversation. DD has Biology tomorrow and then another three exams next week. She was a bit miffed that her friend finished today. Completely different set of subjects.

EwwSprouts · 16/06/2022 19:52

@BlueMarigold Welcome back! How is your DD now? Two more biology papers to go so hopefully scope to show her ability in the most important subject.

BlueMarigold · 16/06/2022 19:56

Thanks @EwwSprouts
I don't know what's wrong but Mumsnet just won't load on my phone anymore.
DD is a bit better now thanks. Hopefully will be ok in tomorrow's heat! I am glad the exam is in the morning and not after lunch.

sazzy5 · 16/06/2022 19:56

@BlueMarigold i hope your daughter is ok, hopefully she gets some leniency for her being ill.
@Hattifatteners it’s hard when others have finished, my neighbours DS is having a party to celebrate the end of exams. I’m just hoping it’s not one of their wild ones as DS has his biology aper 2 tomorrow. He’s got 3 papers left.
@Monkey2001 thanks for your work suggestion, I think we are going to try bar work as that seems to be flexible. DS2 just has gcse chemistry to go on Monday then he’s done. Feels like forever.

ealingwestmum · 16/06/2022 20:09

ican check the airline T&Cs. My niece has just flown back to US with BA and needed either a LT or PCR, no more than 24 hours ahead of departure. So basically same day before testing.

But, your DS should not be surprised if it doesn’t get checked! Such a nonsense, niece was quoted higher for PCR, it seems we are still rip off Britain vs 15 EUR tests in Europe.

NCTDN · 16/06/2022 20:11

It is strange with Covid. All 4 of us here had it last week for the first time. Dh and I had our booster just over 6 months ago. Coincidence?

ealingwestmum · 16/06/2022 20:21

Good luck with the endoscopy next week Singing, hope it’s nothing too troubling. I’m another that was on reflux drugs for a couple of years and didn’t eat after 5pm, slept propped up. Until I was diagnosed with H Pylori, which was then easily treated with a nasty bit effective triple mix of antibiotics. Nowadays this can be tested by blowing into a tube. I’d rather give birth again than have a camera shoved down my throat a second time.

Ulcers, gut bacteria out of whack, stress etc…all contributors. Hopefully Fruity would have been able to shed more light on possibilities!

HarrietDVane · 16/06/2022 20:27

Thanks for the new thread, @OrangeCinnamonCroissant!

DD is another who is looking rather wan and pale at the moment - she's not getting the time outdoors that she'd normally have, and it really shows. Normally she has a lovely complexion so hopefully it will soon come back.

She has Spanish writing tomorrow - hoping it goes ok as she was knocked a bit by the last Spanish paper.

Good luck to all with exams tomorrow!

mummyinbeds · 16/06/2022 20:46

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeCinnamonCroissant

Politics for DS tomorrow. He'll be glad that one's over as it's the subject he's enjoyed the least.

DD and I are off to Harry Styles on Saturday. She was 14 when I booked the tickets, hence me going too (honest). Feather boa arrived in the post today and she has about 7 outfits lined up 🤣 We went to the Kooks in February and I caught flu. Louis Tomlinson in April and we both came away with Covid. I'm thinking maybe monkey pox this time 🙈
